Chapter 773
Returning to School
Jinli heard about Bai Jiang and his agent's subsequent relationship from Sui Lingfang.
The day after she and Gu Cheng returned to Tsinghua and Peking Universities, Fang Jie called her to gossip.
"This matter has become quite ugly, and many people in the industry know about it. Bai Jiang and his agent have fallen out, and it is said that they had a big argument at the company, which many people heard."
Sui Lingfang, suppressing her excitement, said, "Many companies have extended offers to Bai Jiang, asking if he wants to switch jobs."
Jinli was taken aback: "What is the duration of Bai Jiang's contract with the company?"
Sui Lingfang: "It'll be next year, very soon."
Jinli said thoughtfully, "His company doesn't only have one agent. Since this agent doesn't get along with Bai Jiang, why not just change agents?"
Bai Jiang's collaboration with his company seems pretty good, right? He's acted in three of Director Chu's films in a row; it's impossible that the company didn't provide him with any support.
Sui Lingfang nodded: "That's true. The company treats him well, but unfortunately, his agent isn't very good."
However, for top-tier, high-traffic artists like Bai Jiang, the agent's say is actually quite low, and the artist has more autonomy.
“But the matter of changing the script at the last minute—” Fang paused, “From the perspective of an agent, I can understand his agent’s determination to fight for the artist’s interests.”
She said with a hint of regret, "It's a shame, things have gotten a bit too ugly."
"That agent thought that making a scene in public would force Director Chu to give in, but in reality, the crew would only vent their dissatisfaction on Bai Jiang."
According to what I've heard, Bai Jiang's agent is the best in that company; the other agents aren't very good, and several are still beginners.
Jinli raised an eyebrow: "So, this is a situation we absolutely have to switch to?"
Sui Lingfang shrugged: "Not necessarily. Maybe the company can promise Bai Jiang greater benefits and more autonomy?"
"As long as the original employer offers good terms, other companies won't be able to make any progress."
It wasn't just Jinli who was discussing this; Gu Cheng was also discussing it with his agent.
Zhang Guang found out more details and he intended to poach Bai Jiang. The reason was that Bai Jiang was very mature and could bring his own team once he came, and he wouldn't need to be managed much; he could make many decisions on his own.
"Old Zhang (Bai Jiang's agent) was too anxious. He didn't know his own limitations and caused a scene on set, thinking that this would force Director Chu to give in."
As it turned out, Director Chu had already prepared two plans. He simply asked the actors to work harder to shoot two versions and then select the best one, which would cause Old Zhang's plan to fall through.
Old Zhang didn't expect that Bai Jiang would give up the screen time he had worked so hard to get, so he had a big argument with Bai Jiang at the company.
Gu Cheng asked, "Can you dig it up?"
Zhang Guang pondered, "It's hard to say, but I did manage to get in touch with Bai Jiang smoothly. He's not afraid of switching jobs; after all, no matter how much his role is reduced in 'Dawn 2,' he's still the absolute male lead."
If this show becomes a hit, the entire cast can get a table at the table; if it doesn't become a hit...
With Jinli in the cast, it's impossible for him not to become popular, so with this drama, he has the leverage to negotiate with other companies.
Jinli and Gu Cheng returned to Tsinghua and Peking Universities to continue their studies, and it was already early December.
Filming "Dawn 2" took longer than expected, from mid-June to early December, and Jinli turned down many engagements.
The fashion industry's peak season of September and October is in full swing as usual, and the four top magazines still want to invite Jin Li and Gu Cheng, but not for a cover shoot, but for an inside shoot.
Even so, Jinli couldn't spare a day or two to shoot the inner pages because of the filming.
Gu Cheng had some free time, so he took some photos of the inside pages.
The two kept a low profile when they returned to school, but they had to be high-profile in class because the teachers loved to call on their names.
Especially Jinli, the first thing every one of her teachers said before taking attendance was:
"I heard Jinli is back from filming. Is Jinli really back? Raise your hand so I can see."
Jinli helplessly raised her hand, and the other students couldn't help but smile kindly. (End of Chapter)
