Chapter 1
Canyon Red Dress
The thick darkness swallowed the winding highway from the canyon to Los Angeles.
Just past ten o'clock, a dark-colored sedan wobbled up the mountain, drove erratically on the road for a while, and then impatiently plunged into a clearing in the woods beside the road, coming to a stop with heavy breathing.
The passenger door was pulled open, and a woman in a fiery red dress staggered out of the car, her snow-white weapon almost bursting out.
She shook the nearly empty whiskey bottle in her hand, let out a sharp laugh, stumbled a few steps toward the woods, and leaned against a tree.
From the driver's side, a slightly overweight, oily-faced middle-aged man emerged, reeking of alcohol, his eyes gleaming with greed.
He pounced on her impatiently, wrapped his arms around her waist from the side, and roughly grabbed her with his thick hands!
"Sweetie! Stop dawdling!"
The man's voice, reeking of alcohol, was slurred and uncomfortably urgent. He pulled a few crumpled banknotes from his pocket.
"Two hundred yuan, is that enough?" He waved it in front of the woman as if to show off, then roughly stuffed it into her low-cut neckline.
"Now...it's time for me to have some fun!"
He hurriedly pulled out his shirt and started fiddling with his belt...
The woman squirmed in his arms, her laughter tinged with a chilling amusement:
"What's the rush? Before you play, tell me, do you know what your blood type... means?"
The man's hand was held tightly by the woman, and his drunken mind was a little foggy:
"Blood type? Who the hell cares about that stuff..."
He muttered something, trying to bring his mouth close to the woman in the red dress's face.
but!
What he saw was a gaping maw and two pairs of sharp, white fangs, the woman's crimson pupils filled with a terrifying excitement—
Cold sweat instantly climbed up the greasy man's back. He sobered up considerably and let out a short scream. He turned around and tried to run away!
The cold hand gripped the back of his neck like an iron clamp, suffocating his remaining screams!
In excruciating pain and suffocation, he felt sharp teeth pierce his carotid artery, and the sucking sounds and the feeling of powerlessness became the last echoes in his consciousness.
A few minutes later, the vampire in the red dress disgustedly stuffed the corpse into the trunk and drove the car into the depths of the woods.
As she got out of the car, she licked the bloodstains from her lips and muttered a curse under her breath:
"Type O blood...it should have been a delicious meal...damn leaves and tobacco, even the blood smells like sewage!"
She walked listlessly along the road toward the city, feeling utterly annoyed, as if she had just eaten a piece of blue cheese.
The headlights of distant cars pierced the darkness, whizzing past her, and the fresh human scent in the air rekindled her hunting desires.
"I...I have to eat another bite, otherwise...this taste in my mouth will give me nightmares!"
The lights in the distance flickered again, and the vampire looked into the distance:
The driver was a young Chinese man with some of the soft features typical of Chinese people. He was quite handsome, but the smile on his lips made him seem a bit cynical, and his eyes were full of lazy weariness.
In the passenger seat was a white girl of about eight or nine years old, with a ponytail, a porcelain-white face, and an expression as quiet as a lifeless sculpture.
The only slightly eerie thing was the rag doll the little girl was holding; it was a giant Frankenstein's monster, made to look extremely terrifying, and had a rather horrifying feel to it.
The red-dressed vampire's inner desires were instantly ignited, and her pupils constricted—
Just by looking at them, you can tell that the little girl's blood must be very sweet and fresh, while the man's blood must be full of vitality. Both are rare and delicious late-night snacks!
This is so much better than that bucket of swill!
Without hesitation, she rushed into the middle of the road, spread her arms, and blocked the old Dodge.
The driver's side window rolled down, and the Chinese man glanced at her lazily, his tone drawn out and impatient:
"Hey! Ma'am, you're blocking my way!"
It's like shooing away a fly that's in your way.
The vampire in the red dress immediately put on a pitiful expression, her body trembling:
"Sir, please give me a ride! I... I had a fight with my boyfriend, and he... he abandoned me halfway there..."
"Then move aside," the Chinese man replied simply, his tone clearly dismissive.
"I'll tell him for you when I catch up with him, okay?"
"Please! Just a short clip!"
Undeterred, the vampire, her voice trembling with tears, pleaded with the little girl, "Little girl, please help me, okay? I'm so scared..."
Aresa's clear eyes swept over her without any emotion, as if she were looking at a roadside stone.
Her small mouth opened slightly, uttering a few cold and clear syllables: "Qin said no." Her voice was childish, but her refusal was resolute, like hard metal.
The vampire seemed surprised by the response, paused for a moment, and then the Chinese man almost simultaneously shifted gears again and spoke once more:
"Did you hear that, ma'am? We're not interested in you at all," his smirk seemed to deepen, laced with an infuriating tone.
"Can you move aside now?"
The vampire's pitiful expression turned deathly pale. She moved from the hood of the car to the driver's seat, attempting a final effort—
If they still don't agree, then she can't be blamed!
She was absolutely certain she could snap the man's neck with a single grab, then pounce in and pull the little girl out...
Just as she walked to the half-open car window, before she could even speak!
boom! ! !
The deafening gunshots ripped through the silence without warning!
A flash of light disappeared from the passenger seat! Cold and precise!
The vampire felt an irresistible force slam into his chest!
As the car window shattered, her red dress was also torn. She screamed and flew backward, crashing heavily onto the roadside embankment several meters away. A hole the size of an arm appeared in her chest, from which dark purple liquid gushed out.
The Dodge roared to life, started up, and resumed its journey along the dark highway toward Los Angeles.
The young Chinese man, Qin Jin, had several bloody scratches on his face from broken glass, but he remained unmoved. He merely glanced at the red figure lying on the ground in the rearview mirror and spoke with a helpless tone:
"Hey! Aresa, have you forgotten our promise?"
"Hmm? You mean, is it low-key?"
The little girl was looking down, expertly inspecting the bolt of the Luger Super Red Eagle pistol in her hand, her movements as calm as if she were wiping a piece of stationery.
"Since you remember, why did you shoot?"
Qin Jin's voice wasn't loud; besides helplessness, it conveyed a sense of "here we go again."
Aresa finally looked up at him, her small face still bearing that unchanging indifference:
"She's blocking the way, your words are useless." The voice was flat and emotionless, as if stating a fact that needed no explanation.
She paused, then added, "The shooting was very discreet."
Qin Jin was taken aback. Looking at the dark road ahead, his lips twitched, but he only let out a short chuckle. He didn't say anything more, but pressed the accelerator harder.
The Dodge roared and sped away, carrying the two men, disappearing at the end of the canyon road and heading towards Los Angeles.
The red-dressed vampire under the roadbed finally got up. The hole in her chest was healing and recovering at a visible speed. She stared venomously in the direction where the vehicle had disappeared, making a low snorting sound in her throat.
Inside the Dodge, out of her sight, the wound on the face of the Chinese man, Qin Jin, had also disappeared.
