Chapter 37
is awesome!
An awkward and tense atmosphere filled the principal's office.
Alessa, clutching her Frankenstein doll, sat on a chair that was too high for her, her short legs dangling in the air.
Kate stood to the side expressionlessly, her eyes filled with undisguised scrutiny and a hint of barely perceptible contempt.
The principal tried to maintain a kind smile, but the fine beads of sweat on his forehead betrayed his predicament.
Ms. Kate pushed two sheets of paper with the questions printed on them in front of Alessa; these were the two questions the principal had just mentioned:
"Alessa, do it again. Let's see if you understand these questions."
Alessa's large, grey-blue eyes swept over the text about Jack and her sister walking and riding bikes, her little face expressionless, as if she were reading gibberish.
She looked up blankly, her gaze shifting between the principal and Ms. Kate before finally settling on Qin Jin, her eyes filled with confusion.
She even tilted her head slightly, looking rather pitiful.
Looking at Alessa's unusually helpless appearance, and then at the two questions, Qin Jin suddenly realized where the problem lay!
"Wait, Ms. Kate, Principal," Qin Jin cleared his throat, a look of sudden realization on his face:
"I think... the way the question was phrased might be a bit abstract for Alessa. Shall we try a way that's more familiar to her?"
He walked up to Aretha and asked again, using language with a clear objective:
"Alessa, the target escaped from you at 50 meters per second, and you only received the message 10 minutes later. You chased after him on your bike and took him out! Now, the question is, how many minutes later can you catch up and slit his throat?"
Aresa's previously blank eyes lit up instantly!
She barely hesitated, her small mouth slightly open, and clearly stated a number: "3.75 minutes."
Qin Jin's face immediately lit up with a smile of immense satisfaction. He nodded vigorously and raised his eyebrows at the principal and Ms. Kate with a boastful expression.
"Yes! Absolutely accurate! You see, she completely understands the core concept of the pursuit problem!"
The principal and Ms. Kate standing nearby nearly popped their eyes out!
The principal's smile froze completely, his lips twitching unnaturally. Kate's eyes narrowed sharply behind her glasses, her lips pressed into a cold, straight line.
Qin Jin completely ignored their shock and immediately pointed to the second question:
"And this too! If a teacher and students are kidnapped by us, and we demand a ransom of 8 for each adult and 3 for each child, and we target 15 people in total, and we collect 65 in ransom, how much ransom did we collect for each adult and child?"
"Four teachers, eleven students," Aresa answered almost without hesitation, then paused and added:
"Teacher... the ransom isn't high, and it's very troublesome. I suggest we kill them all."
Qin Jin was practically bursting with admiration. He looked at the principal and Ms. Kate, his tone brimming with pride:
"Look! Clear logic, accurate calculations! Where's the problem with this comprehension and calculation ability? Isn't it perfect?"
The principal's face was barely holding back; his smile was more like a grimace. He could only manage two dry "haha"s to squeeze out a few words:
"Officer Qin... your family's parenting style is really... unique! Very... pragmatic!"
Kate pushed up her glasses, her voice flat and monotone: "It's very special. Very violent."
Qin Jin then realized that his analogy might have been a bit too much. He quickly coughed awkwardly twice and put on an apologetic smile.
"Ah! Don't misunderstand! It's mainly because our father has spent decades dealing with drug traffickers and gangs on the border, so Alessa and I are quite sensitive about it—don't worry about the details! The important thing is that Alessa really understands, doesn't she? Could you please be a little more patient and guide her in a more appropriate way?"
Looking at Qin Jin's sincere expression, then at Alessa's delicate but expressionless face, the principal weighed his options and reluctantly nodded.
"Okay... let's give it a try. Starting tomorrow, I'll have the teacher... choose questions in a way that Alessa can understand."
Kate remained expressionless, her eyes filled with an uncompromising coldness.
She seemed too lazy to even speak, only managing a short syllable through her nose as a response, due to the principal's decision.
Then, without even glancing at Qin Jin and Alessa, she turned and left the principal's office with an aura of unapproachability.
As Qin Jin watched Kate's departing figure, he knew that Constantine's task had become even more arduous.
He smiled helplessly at the principal: "Well... that's it? Thank you for your help, Principal."
"Okay, Officer Qin, take care..."
Before the principal could finish speaking, his assistant knocked on the office door: "Principal, several police officers want to see you..."
Entering from outside was Bruce and three of his officers. Upon seeing Qin Jin, the officers greeted him warmly. Bruce asked curiously:
"Qin, what are you doing here...?"
"Alessa is studying here, um, there's a problem... let's talk to the principal," he greeted everyone with a smile.
"And you? What are you doing here?"
"The main reason for investigating the bombing is that there were no witnesses and no footage, so we came to the school to look for clues."
"Haha, I see..."
Qin Jin chuckled and then secretly glanced at Alessa. Although her face remained expressionless, her eyes shone with joy, and Qin Jin immediately realized that this was indeed her handiwork.
So, while he was here, he simply asked the principal for leave and took Alessa home.
Bruce and the other officers greeted Alessa. Whether it was because she had blown up someone with a bomb that day or because she was finally able to go home, Alessa unusually responded, making everyone laugh.
Only the principal looked completely conflicted!
He figured it out: although Qin was of Chinese descent, she seemed to have very good and powerful connections at the police station. Alessa was also quite popular with the officers. Tomorrow's lesson...
It seems the only option is for the teachers to get used to her!
As the car drove away from the school, Qin Jin caught a glimpse of a familiar figure out of the corner of his eye—Constantine.
The guy was sitting at an outdoor table in a corner café, a cup of coffee in front of him, his eyes constantly wandering around the school gate.
It seems this guy isn't slacking off and is currently carrying out his mission to win over Teacher Kate.
This put Qin Jin at ease a little!
On the way, Qin Jin asked about the details of the grenade explosion. Alessa told him that someone had kidnapped her, which earned her Qin Jin's praise, making her eyes sparkle.
There are three main points that were praised!
"First, you weren't hurt by anyone. You acted decisively in advance and protected yourself, which is great!"
Secondly, it would be even better if they had used grenades to wipe out the enemy instead of nitroglycerin!
Third, the fact that no evidence was left at the scene, and that the person wasn't photographed, coupled with their timely departure and low-key approach, goes beyond mere praise; they deserve a reward!
The specific reward is that you don't have to go to school in the afternoon, but instead go with me to the flea market to retrieve the mended gothic skirt, and then we'll go see a horror movie in the evening.
This is Qin Jin and Alessa's favorite activity!
