Chapter 52

We are irreconcilable enemies of evil

boom!boom!boom!boom!

Gunshots rang out suddenly, and Qin Jin and Catherine appeared as if they were divine soldiers, launching a surprise attack on the dozens of vampires in front of them from the corridors on both sides!

The battle erupted instantly!

Qin Jin fired his two guns in rapid succession, bullets whistling through the air and sparks flying everywhere!

Some bullets hit the vampires, but most of them went into the air. Catherine did the same, firing recklessly without thinking, as long as the battle sounded intense!

The vampires fought back fiercely, roaring angrily and firing back with all their might. Then, one by one, they screamed and flew backward, crashing heavily to the ground, looking as if they had been hit!

Just as the battle reached a stalemate, and Qin Jin and Catherine were running out of bullets in the ordinary pistol they had obtained from the vampire, and their act was about to come to an end—

Rip! Splash! Splash!

On the lawn in the garden, all the automatic irrigation sprinklers hidden under the turf suddenly started up, and powerful jets of water surged out in all directions!

Instantly, the entire garden was covered, and the towering vampire leader immediately remembered Selena's plan, letting out a bloodcurdling scream:

"Ah—! Holy water! They're spewing out holy water!"

Immediately, the other vampires also screamed in agony, each one more agonizing than the last, as they desperately twisted their bodies, tore at their clothes, and fled towards the garden's exit!

The vampires, now weakened by the "holy water," fled in terror at the spray of water mist.

Qin Jin and Catherine rushed out and opened fire on the vampires!

"We can't hold on any longer! Run! Run!" the vampire leader screamed, grabbing a fallen companion who was feigning death and running away.

"Take our people with you, and let's go! Not a single one can be missing!"

The vampires completely lost their will to fight. Like stray dogs, they fled the mansion from the walls and gates, disappearing hastily and quickly into the night.

The garden was a mess, filled with steam.

The gunfire ceased, leaving only the hissing of the showerheads and the suppressed sobs and gasps of the guests who had survived the ordeal.

Just then, the side door of the main house creaked open.

Constantin appeared at the door, accompanied by Alessa, his right hand holding up an open old Bible, his left hand still making a gesture as if to end a prayer.

Constanze took a deep breath, his voice loud and clear, carrying the solemnity unique to exorcists, piercing through the sound of water and sobs:

"In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit! This water has been consecrated and transformed into a weapon to drive out darkness!"

He looked around at the shaken, soaked guests, his eyes gleaming.

"Evil has been banished by the baptism of this sacred water! You are safe!"

After a brief silence, an even louder wave of cheers and gratitude erupted!

"Holy water! He blessed the water system!"

"God has appeared to us! Thank you, Pastor!"

Actress Emily wiped the water droplets from her face, looking at the figure of Constance Dante holding up the Bible with awe in her eyes.

At this moment, Qin Jin and Catherine reunited and walked to Constanze's side, with little Alessa beside them.

Qin Jin wiped the water from his face and, addressing the excited crowd below, added in a calm voice:

"We are not priests, we are the Second Homicide and Major Crimes Unit of the Canyon Police Department! We are a team that upholds justice and fights against evil!"

Constantine and Catherine raised their hands simultaneously, their faces flushed, and together shouted out the lines that Qin Jin had personally arranged:

"Second Group, Guardians of Los Angeles! We are sworn enemies of evil!"

Applause, cheers, and words of thanks surged towards the four people under the porch once again!

This meticulously planned heroic rescue drama culminated in a sudden baptism of holy water, bringing it to a perfect close.

………………

Supervisors Frank and Sean arrived quickly after receiving the call. The officers skillfully set up a cordon and sealed off the scene, their faces showing the solemnity typical of cases involving major events.

The sight before them made everyone gasp in shock.

The banquet hall doors were wide open, revealing a scene of utter chaos. Congealed blood, broken wine glasses, overturned tables and chairs, and scattered food scraps were mixed together on the expensive marble floor, creating a shocking and abstract picture.

Even more chilling were the bizarrely shaped remains of the corpses—

Several bodies were unnaturally reduced to ashes, while others were mangled and twisted, as if torn apart by immense force. The air was thick with the stench of blood, gunpowder, and an indescribable mixture of burnt and putrid smells, making one want to vomit.

The garden was equally chaotic.

The guests, driven to the center, were like frightened birds, all soaked to the bone, and many were still shivering.

Supervisor Frank's face was so dark it could drip water. He strode toward the group of disheveled survivors, bracing himself for a storm of accusations and panic.

However, to everyone's surprise,

When this group of Hollywood elites—A-list stars, famous directors, producers, and business tycoons—

When Frank and Sean appeared with a large number of police officers, a cacophony of relief and intense gratitude erupted.

"It was them! The officers from the Canyon Sheriff's Department saved us!"

An actress in a wet evening gown pointed in the direction of Qin Jin's group, her voice trembling with tears yet unusually loud.

"My God, Supervisor Frank, your officers are incredibly brave!"

A gray-haired, highly respected producer excitedly grabbed Frank's arm:

"They...they are heroes! They are the guardians of Los Angeles!"

The survivors eagerly described the unimaginable battle they had just witnessed to Frank, Sean, and the surrounding officers:

The descriptions of Michelle as a terrifying monster, a horrifying pale monster, a brave police officer, a resourceful part-time priest... are all filled with lingering fear and deep respect!

They repeatedly emphasized that it was the desperate fight and the final stroke of genius by the Canyon Police Department's second team that saved their lives.

A preliminary count revealed that seven or eight guests, including the host Howard Winston and his daughter Michelle, had perished. Their bodies were scattered inside and outside the banquet hall, each with a different and gruesome manner of death.

Frank had expected this to be a massive scandal and public relations disaster that would engulf Los Angeles and even shake the entire nation.

He had already mentally rehearsed how to face the media's relentless questioning, the victim's family's angry lawsuit, and the endless pressure from his superiors, but the current situation caught him completely off guard.

Instead of criticizing the police for their slow response or inadequate protection, the survivors hailed his men as heroes who turned the tide!

As a result, Frank went to great lengths, even using personal connections, to get these bigwigs to promise not to reveal details of the battle, since the appearance of supernatural beings was still too terrifying for the human world.

A crisis that could have triggered social unrest has miraculously begun to develop in a controllable direction thanks to the survivors' gratitude and rational cooperation.

After calming the still-shaken guests, Frank and Sean finally found time to ask Qin Jin what had happened.

Qin Jin's descriptions are always nine parts truth and one part falsehood, and this time is no exception. The preliminary investigation completely matches the truth, with only a slight adjustment made to the final part:

"The monster that killed Ms. Kate was a supernatural creature originating from the East, which we call the Skin-Painting Demon. It can peel off human skin to disguise itself and is extremely dangerous. Intelligence indicates that it infiltrated Mr. Howard's mansion to find a new skin to evade the pursuit of vampires..."

"Our team infiltrated, attempting to capture it secretly. We never imagined the vampires were so brutal; in their pursuit of the Painted Skin Demon, they launched a surprise attack, triggering this catastrophic conflict."

"The Painted Skin Demon has been temporarily sealed inside by the vampires..." Qin Jin displayed the scroll in his hand:

"In the chaos, I seized this sealed artifact and wiped out most of their people. Now, what we need to do is find a suitable method to completely destroy the Painted Skin Demon—after all, the seal's effect is limited, and it will reappear after its time expires!"

"What are you planning to do?" Sean couldn't help but interject, his tone skeptical.

"I need time to study this reel and what's inside."

Qin Jin's tone left no room for argument: "During this period, this scroll must be kept in my personal custody. It is too dangerous to be handed over to anyone or any organization unfamiliar with its nature."

Frank frowned. This was clearly beyond the usual procedure. He immediately dialed Director Edward's number. Soon, with the director's authorization, the process was simplified, and the reel was officially handed over to Qin Jin to find a solution.

After all the formal procedures were completed, Qin Jin consulted with supervisors Frank and Sean:

"Officer Catherine demonstrated exceptional ability in today's operation. I believe she is capable of handling the work of our team, but I just don't know..."

He glanced at Catherine, who had been following closely behind him and Constantine, and she immediately exclaimed excitedly, "Reporting to Supervisor Sean! I'd like to join this group!"

Sean and Frank exchanged a glance and agreed to this reasonable request: "You can start working in the second group tomorrow; the transfer paperwork will be completed later!"

"Phew, that's great!" Qin Jin sighed, formally shook hands with Catherine, and then solemnly announced:

"You're responsible for writing the report! Remember, this version must be logical. Any unreasonable parts... well, they can only be presented orally; not a single word can appear in the written report!"

Catherine nodded to the side. After a day of working with Team Two on the case, she had a basic understanding of the operating principles of her two colleagues!

The dust seems to have settled for now.
