Chapter 34
More Money
Qin Jin could leave, but Constanze couldn't. He still had some connection with Midnight, and besides, he understood why Qin Jin was so angry—
The vampire's attack on Alessa was one thing, but he also noticed Alessa's unusual behavior.
Either way, he deserved to die.
However, he never expected Qin Jin to be so powerful when he attacked in a fit of rage. It seems that he had been holding back his strength in the wooden house.
"Midnight Daddy, don't be angry. There's a reason for all this. These three bastards attacked first, and your men saw it!"
Constantine shouted it out in a voice that everyone could hear, not only to explain what had happened, but more importantly, to give Old Man Midnight a way out, something he was quite adept at.
At midnight, staring intently at Qin Jin and Alessa's departing figures, recalling the terrifying atmosphere he had just felt in the secret room, his facial muscles twitched a few times. He took a deep breath and, following Constanze's words, forcefully stepped down from the stage:
"Really? You, you, and you, did you see that?"
The bartenders he named immediately cowered and nodded cautiously.
"Yes, they attacked first..."
"Since they broke the rules first by resorting to violence in the bar, they deserved it!"
He spoke loudly, making sure the whole bar could hear him:
"Clean up the mess and throw the body out! Also, I sincerely apologize to all the guests; all drinks tonight are on the house!"
The tense atmosphere in the bar eased slightly, and a series of suppressed, relieved gasps filled the air.
Midnight Old Man's statement was undoubtedly a clear line drawn, acknowledging that Qin Jin's actions were legitimate self-defense.
Just as the waiters began cleaning up the trash and the atmosphere in the bar gradually returned to normal, Midnight Daddy leaned closer to Constanze and whispered with a suppressed anger:
"Tell your Asian friend that the vampires he killed, though only low-ranking ones, included one whose brother was Elder Eli of the Damas family! They've recently made contact with vampire elders in Europe. Tell your friend to commit suicide sooner rather than later, to avoid further suffering!"
"Shit! This guy!" Constantin was slightly startled and quickly chased after him out the door.
Seeing Constanze's anxious and hurried appearance, Midnight felt a little calmer and returned to his secret room.
He poured himself a glass of the strongest rum and downed it in one gulp; the pungent liquid couldn't dispel the seriousness in his eyes.
Dante, pale-faced, rushed to the building entrance and caught up with Qin Jin's Dodge:
"Qin! There's a problem. That guy you smashed into a pulp is... Eli's brother, the elder of the Damas family, the largest vampire family on the West Coast. They've already made contact with the vampire elders in Europe!"
"Let them come!" Qin Jin's words were calm and indifferent.
"Also, if someone tries to buy my information from you, remember the price: 90,000, of which 50,000 is mine."
As the Dodge roared away from the Oriental Columbia Building, Constanze couldn't help but feel a surge of surprise at Qin Jin's calm demeanor.
Just how capable is this friend I know?
What Constanze didn't know was that Qin Jin's seemingly calm but violent outbursts came at a price!
As they drove out of the Oriental Columbia Building, Qin Jin's eyes were already red and his teeth were grinding. Alessa also showed a rare look of anxiety. She immediately opened the car window and leaned out to listen intently!
Soon, Alessa pointed in a certain direction and said briefly and firmly, "Dog!"
Qin Jin practically floored the gas pedal, roaring as he sped over, found the stray dog, grabbed it, and bit its neck, sucking on it!
That night, Qin Jin drank the fresh blood of two dogs to control the bloodthirsty instinct churning within him!
This is also why Qin and Jin cannot easily use their power.
…………
About an hour after Qin Jin left, a black-haired girl wearing a tight black leather outfit walked into the midnight bar. Beside her was a pale-faced, somewhat aged vampire leaning on a long cane.
It was Eli, the elder of the Damas family, and... a strange and powerful vampire female warrior whom no one recognized.
The conversations of all the patrons in the bar instantly fell silent, as if a mute button had been pressed.
Two vampires slowly made their way through the crowd, their high heels and canes rhythmically tapping on the ground, making a crisp sound, each step resonating with the heartbeats of the guests.
Wherever they went, the vampires bowed humbly, while other demons or other creatures remained silent.
Two vampires reached the door of the secret chamber at midnight and knocked. Just as the door opened, the older vampire, Eli, uttered a murderous question:
"At midnight, tell me, who... killed my brother?"
Midnight's gaze fell on the old vampire, then shifted to the woman beside him. Eli immediately responded:
"This is Selena, a death walker from Europe, an elite member of Elder Victor's personal guard!"
Midnight was no stranger to the name Death Walker, and he immediately sensed an opportunity—
That Asian man who disregarded his authority deserves to be punished!
"I didn't know the person who killed him, but I knew his friends."
The voice at midnight carried a deliberate calmness: "John Constantine, a marginal figure, dabbling in exorcisms and psychic tricks, his skill level... is quite mediocre!"
A flame of revenge instantly ignited in Eli's cloudy old eyes:
"What is Constantine's relationship with that murderer?!"
"Friends? Partners? Who knows?" Midnight shrugged, her tone carrying a subtle hint of seduction.
"They came together, seemed to know each other well, and probably have what you're looking for."
"Find this Constantine's address, we'll go ask him ourselves," Selena, who had been silent until now, suddenly spoke. Her voice was low and cold, carrying an unquestionable tone of command.
"Since they are friends, he probably won't easily betray his accomplices' whereabouts."
Nodding at midnight, feigning seriousness:
"That makes sense. I have no choice but to give it a try." He took out his antique cell phone with gold trim and dialed Constantine's number.
The call was answered almost instantly.
Constantin's smoky voice came through: "Hey, midnight, what's up?"
He cleared his throat at midnight, trying to appear casual:
"John, I suddenly remembered something. Where are you? I think we should talk..."
There was a two-second silence on the other end of the phone.
Then Constantine's voice rang out again, with a straightforward tone:
"You're not trying to find out Qin's address, are you?"
boom--!
This sentence was like a bomb dropped into a sealed room.
Midnight's fake smile froze instantly. Selena and Elder Eli were also surprised, never expecting that this exorcist, who was said to be of mediocre skill, would have such keen insight.
Now that she'd been seen through, Selena didn't bother to hide it anymore and directly stated her intentions to the person on the other end of the phone:
"Yes! That's exactly who we're looking for! We can give you money! Twenty thousand US dollars! For his address!"
From the other end of the phone came Constanze's exaggerated gasp, followed by utterly furious disdain:
"Qin is my partner, my comrade-in-arms! Our relationship... isn't something you can buy off with a mere twenty thousand US dollars!"
"John, look at the state you've become!" Midnight immediately chimed in, her tone full of seduction.
"We can barely afford food, what do you care about comrades? Partners? Wake up!"
"No, no, no, midnight, you seem to have misunderstood. What I mean is—"
Constanze paused briefly, then shattered everyone's expectations with a single sentence:
"You need to pay more!"
"..."
"..."
"..."
The room was deathly silent.
Elder Eli stared wide-eyed, his turbid eyes wide, as if he were seeing this world for the first time.
At midnight, the muscles on Old Man's face twitched uncontrollably, and he almost dropped the cigar in his hand.
Even Selena, this elite warrior from Europe, showed a crack in her perpetually icy expression—
That was the shock of pure, immense absurdity!
A full five seconds passed before Eli finally managed to utter a hoarse sound, like a duck being choked:
"Okay...okay! Tell me! How much do you want?!"
Constantine's voice immediately became cheerful and precise, as if it had been calculated beforehand:
"Easy! Give me back the 90,000 I just spent at midnight, and I'll send it to the address right away!"
Eli practically roared, his voice tinged with a desperate urge to escape this absurd farce: "Deal! How much do I owe you?"
"Wait for me, I'll be right there!"
Constantine's voice was filled with satisfaction as he abruptly hung up the phone.
Less than ten minutes later, Constanze reappeared in Midnight's secret room. When he picked up the 90,000 in cash that Eli had exchanged for a check in Midnight's hands, he whistled excitedly and then quickly gave Qin Jin's address in the Green Grass Community.
Just as Eli and Selena were about to set off immediately, Constantine seemed to suddenly remember something, slapped his forehead, and gave a very innocent, even slightly mischievous, smile:
"Oh, right, I forgot something!"
He met Selena's suddenly sharp gaze, a meaningful smile playing on his lips, and slowly said:
"When Qin asked me to sell the address to you, he also included a message: 'Let them come!' Do you know what that means?"
Constantine shrugged, his tone as casual as if he were discussing the weather:
"I think, if you guys are smart enough..."
His smile deepened, carrying an almost pitying implication:
"It's best not to go looking for him. Believe me, he's far, far more powerful than you think."
After saying that, without waiting for any reaction from the other party, he turned around, humming an off-key tune, pushed open the deep red velvet wooden door, and disappeared into the dim light and shadow of the bar.
The room was eerily silent.
