Chapter 35
The Tree of Omniscience
Chapter 35 The Tree of Omniscience
There were many people, but it was relatively quiet.
This was Suzuki's first impression of the largest library in the One Piece world.
There are obviously quite a few visitors here, but most of them follow some rules.
Only a few scattered whispers reached my ears; they were the involuntary gasps of awe from newly arrived tourists who had come up close to see the Tree of Omniscience.
There were also some guards patrolling and watching over the area, and they would pick up any litter they found on the ground and put it into plastic bags.
In any case, these scholars are the foundation of Ohara.
Ensuring a friendly research environment for these scholars and protecting the safety of the Tree of Omniscience are of utmost importance.
The native people of Ohara are well aware of this, so they take this matter very seriously.
Even with the constant flow of people, and even though they developed tourism or other related industries to make a living, they didn't interfere with or disturb the Tree of Omniscience much.
At that moment, young Robin tugged at his sleeve, a hopeful look on her face.
Just like a child showing off their treasure to their friends, she said to Suzuki with a bit of excitement:
"Brother Suzuki, look, this is the Tree of Omniscience!"
As she spoke, she pointed slightly upwards with her short right hand.
Suzuki looked in the direction she pointed.
The first thing you see is a tree so tall it's comparable to some mountain peaks.
Its roots are firmly embedded in the soil, and the part remaining above ground looks like a small hill.
Further up, there are thick tree trunks.
In some places, people have carved holes in the tree trunk, like windows in a room.
Looking further up, you see the tree canopy that blocks out the sky.
Even in winter, it remains vibrant and covered with lush green leaves.
Every now and then, a slight breeze would blow down some of the slightly withered old leaves.
At these times, many tourists will pick up these leaves and carefully keep them as if they were treasures.
Suzuki watched this scene with a joyful smile on his face, as if he were appreciating a beautiful view.
After watching for a while, he placed his hand on little Robin's head, ruffled her dark hair, and replied with a smile:
"It was definitely worth the trip."
"Only when you get close can you truly appreciate the magnificence of the Tree of Omniscience!"
"Thanks so much, Robin!"
After saying that, Suzuki took out fifty Berries and some snacks he usually ate when he was sailing alone at sea.
He took Robin's little hand and placed it in her palm.
At first, Robin's face lit up with a satisfied and joyful smile, as if she had heard her friends praising her treasure.
Hearing Suzuki's words of thanks at the end, she felt a little embarrassed and shy.
When Suzuki took out Bailey and snacks and handed them to her, she felt a little ashamed.
She wasn't a complete naive child.
If it's the Tree of Omniscience, then who wouldn't know the way if they stood on the ground of Ohara?
The fee of one thousand Berries at the dock is only for taking people in for a tour.
Many tourists here didn't choose to go inside or take a look; they simply admired the Tree of Omniscience from the outside.
They came here without spending a single penny.
However, Robin did not return Bailey and the snacks to Suzuki.
Regardless, she will still take Suzuki inside for a visit.
Although she made a few more demands, it was still much cheaper than at the dock.
Needless to say, snacks are another story.
She was, after all, often fed by the elder scholars in the Tree of Omniscience, and knew she couldn't refuse such a kind little gift.
So when Bailey and the snacks were in the little hand, Robin only felt ashamed for a short while before quickly regaining her composure.
She tilted her little face up, revealing a happy smile:
"Thank you, Suzuki-nii-san!"
"Shall we go inside and take a look?"
Suzuki nodded with a gentle smile:
"Of course, thank you for your help, little Robin."
The two soon arrived at the entrance of the Tree of Omniscience.
There weren't many guards here, but some scholars were sitting outside chatting.
"Hey, Bliss, did you read the research paper Vegapunk released last time?"
"Hey, I looked at it. I've been trying to figure it out for days and still can't understand it. What about you?"
"Me too! I've checked a lot of information but I'm still not quite sure what to do!"
"How come Vegapunk's brain is so big? How come we can't even understand the things he's already researched?"
"There's definitely a gap between us and him. In the museum, probably only Dr. Clover can discuss things with him."
"."
"Huh? Little Robin? You're here so early today."
Just then, the two scholars who were talking about Vegapunk saw Robin and Suzuki walking towards the door.
The scholar named Bliss was clearly closer to Robin, and soon, with a delighted smile on his face, he jogged over and picked up young Robin.
"Haha, little Robin, your Uncle Bliss brought super, super delicious snacks today!"
Then Bliss pulled a bag from his pocket that was clearly made specifically for children and stuffed it into young Robin's hand.
"Oh? Okay, thank you, Uncle Bliss!"
Robin smiled happily.
She and Uncle Bliss were the closest people in the library besides Dr. Clover.
Bliss was also a very kind person. Knowing that Robin's life was not easy, he often brought her some snacks.
Suzuki watched the two joking around and stood quietly to the side, waiting patiently.
Soon, Robin remembered that she had important business to attend to, and quickly pulled Bliss down from her seat.
Then, glancing at Suzuki who was standing quietly waiting to the side, she turned to Bliss, a sweet smile spreading across her adorable little face.
"Uncle Bliss~"
"This is my older brother Suzuki, whom I met at the pier. He wanted to visit the library."
Bliss was clearly surprised, with a hint of doubt on his face.
To be honest, it's perfectly normal to visit the library inside the Tree of Omniscience.
Scholars also need money to conduct research.
It can generate more ticket revenue and also inspire people's yearning for knowledge.
Bliss expressed strong approval of these measures.
This kind of thing happens every day; now the first floor of the Tree of Omniscience has almost become a visitor hall.
However, what he didn't expect was...
Robin, at such a young age, was already running around the pier soliciting tourists, and what's even more unexpected is that he actually managed to attract a tourist.
Seeing Robin clinging to his clothes in a fawning manner, Bliss stopped thinking about why.
He quickly turned to look at Suzuki, who was standing quietly to the side.
Suzuki looks somewhat mature, yet you can still see some childlike innocence in him.
Wearing a gray trench coat that would be very convenient for sailing at sea, he appeared both low-key and humble.
At the entrance of the library.
Bliss frowned, but it was hard to tell what he was thinking.
However, he knew this was the first time Little Robin had brought people over, and he didn't want to embarrass Little Robin in front of outsiders.
Moreover, there are many guards around the library, so there's no fear of anyone causing trouble.
So, with a polite yet distant smile on his face, Bliss spoke to Suzuki in a very straightforward tone:
"Of course, no problem!"
"Sir, would you like to go in now?"
Suzuki, who had been standing nearby for a while, nodded gently.
He returned the greeting with a polite smile and answered Bliss:
"Yes, Mr. Bliss."
"Can I go in now?"
Bliss looked at Robin, who was tugging at his clothes and smiling like a little flower, and nodded:
"Sure, would you like me to show you in?"
Before Suzuki could answer, Robin quickly raised her little right hand and shouted happily:
"I!"
"Let me take Suzuki-nii-san inside."
Then she ran to Suzuki's side with her short legs and tugged at his clothes.
At the same time, she turned back to look at Bliss, her little face full of smiles, and said:
"Uncle Bliss, please continue your conversation~"
In places where there are many acquaintances, Little Robin is no longer so timid.
She pulled Suzuki along into the library, and she was clearly much more cheerful than before.
As for why she insisted on doing this herself, Suzuki could roughly understand.
Having at least received Bailey's help, Robin, on her first job, was eager to do her best.
Moreover, she had a good impression of Suzuki, and the two were not far apart in age, so it would be good for them to talk more together.
She rarely plays with people her own age or interacts with friends of similar age.
She finally found someone like Suzuki who could barely be considered her peer, so of course she wanted to cherish him.
You know, in the past...
She rarely gets this close to people she's just met.
The children on the island rarely played with her, and after she ate a strange fruit some time ago, they almost never played with her anymore.
Even after seeing the strange changes in her body, he called her a monster to her face.
It's really heartbreaking.
Although the scholars in the library told her that the fruit she ate was called a Devil Fruit.
It is a treasure that is not common on the sea, but it is not rare either.
She also found it hard to accept this, since the children all thought she was a monster.
Just as Robin was pulling Suzuki toward the interior of the library.
Watching this scene from not far away, Bliss inexplicably felt a sense of helplessness, like a little cotton-padded jacket that had been leaked.
