Chapter 19
Fox, I really don't know you!
Yu Fuli's Adam's apple bobbed as he swallowed a mouthful of saliva that wasn't actually there.
What to do? What should we do now?!
The three burly men in front were clearly well-trained, with calm demeanor and their positions blocked off all angles; they were far superior to ordinary bar security guards.
Force his way in? With most of his magic power sealed, his body might be able to handle ordinary people, but against someone who was clearly organized and had real combat experience, his chances of winning were slim.
"Sir," Yu Fuli spoke again, her voice aggrieved and innocent, as if she were truly just an innocent bartender who had been inexplicably entangled, "you've really mistaken me for someone else. I'll say it one last time, I'm not the teacher you're looking for."
He slightly raised his chin, maintaining a composed demeanor even though he was internally panicking and wanted to tear his hair out.
Hilarious! He's a fox spirit, cultivated for so many years, doesn't he have any pride?!
Even if the facade is already crumbling, they must cling to the last fig leaf! Admitting it is out of the question.
In this lifetime...
At least not tonight!
He even tried to send a signal to the crowd with his eyes that "Help! There's a pervert stalker here!" Unfortunately, most people were intimidated by the cold aura of the men in black and only dared to watch from afar, whispering among themselves, with no one stepping forward.
Yunbai listened quietly to him without getting angry.
A silver mask concealed all his expressions; only his eyes, in the dim light, were eerily calm.
Yun Bai took two steps forward, completely stepping out of the shadows of the bar area, and came behind Yu Fuli. He leaned down slightly, his arms encircling Yu Fuli from behind, firmly trapping her within his aura, forming an embrace from which she could not escape.
He gently rested his chin on Yu Fuli's shoulder.
The cold edge of the metal mask brushed against Yu Fuli's warm cheek and earlobe.
Yu Fuli could clearly feel the body temperature and slow heartbeat behind her, as well as the very soft, satisfied sigh that seemed to indicate that everything had finally settled down.
"Teacher," Yunbai's voice lowered, carrying a hint of weariness and confusion that had been suppressed for a long time, "Where have you been all these years? I've spent more than ten years looking for you and still haven't found you."
Yu Fuli was initially uncomfortable because of the other person's overly intimate closeness. Her cheeks were itchy from the cold mask rubbing against her, and she subconsciously wanted to dodge.
However, the words "more than ten years" struck him like a thunderbolt, shattering his chaotic thoughts.
He froze instantly, forgetting even to struggle.
More than ten years?
He has been in this world for less than twenty years!
He was just a child in this world more than a decade ago.
In a flash, Yu Fuli suddenly realized that the person Yun Bai was looking for was not him at all!
He mistook himself for someone else, someone who had disappeared for over a decade and was extremely important to him.
His disguise hasn't fallen off at all!
Yunbai mistook someone else for her!
Great!
Yu Fuli almost cheered inwardly, the corners of her mouth under the mask unable to suppress the urge to turn up.
It seems I can still keep having fun!
Yu Fuli slightly turned her head to avoid the cold noodle dish pressed against her cheek:
"Sir, please take a closer look. I look no more than twenty years old; a decade or so ago, I was probably just a teenager. How could I possibly be the teacher you're talking about?"
He tried to break the other party's obsession with the most straightforward facts.
However, Yunbai's arms around him did not loosen at all; in fact, they tightened even more.
His voice came close to Yu Fuli's ear, deep and resolute, without the slightest hesitation:
"Teacher, you're trying to say I've admitted my mistake, right?"
He paused, each word seeming to burst forth from the depths of his soul, carrying a kind of obsessive certainty:
"No, I would never admit to being wrong."
This brat, why won't he listen to reason!
Yu Fuli was getting a little anxious. He struggled for a moment, then lowered his voice and said, "I already said no! What proof do you have that I'm your teacher? Just based on your words?"
This question made Yun Bai pause, as if she had been stumped.
After a brief silence, Yunbai seemed to have reached her own conclusion, her tone carrying a hint of understanding: "I understand!"
Yu Fuli's internal alarm bells rang: What do you know?! You know nothing about fox fur!
Before he could react, Yunbai had already wrapped her arms around his waist without saying a word, half-supporting and half-dragging him, forcibly leading him through the crowd and striding towards the private rooms on the second floor.
Yu Fuli tried to struggle, but the strength of that arm was irresistible. Several men in black silently followed, cutting off any external interference.
This private room wasn't the one where they dealt with Scarface before, but it was just as spacious and private. People of Yunbai's status always have their own dedicated space in these kinds of places, ready to be at any time.
This is a privilege, and also a silent manifestation of status.
The door was closed, shutting out the noise from downstairs.
The private room was softly lit and luxuriously furnished, but now only the two of them remained, along with a suffocating silence.
Yunbai finally released his grip, but still stood in front of the door. He raised his hand and slowly moved it toward the clasp of the silver mask on his face.
Yu Fuli subconsciously took half a step back, her heart pounding like a drum.
What is this brat trying to do?!
Click.
Yunbai slowly removed her signature silver-white mask.
Under the light, a young face with well-defined features was revealed.
His skin was a pale, cool white, as if he hadn't seen the sun in a long time. He had deep-set eyes and brows, a high nose bridge, and very straight lips.
Objectively speaking, this face is strikingly handsome, even possessing a refined quality that transcends gender.
But what's most captivating is those eyes.
No longer a cold scrutiny through a mask, the light now clearly reflects the light, revealing Yu Fuli's stunned figure.
The emotions churning in his eyes were so complex and intense that they were almost overflowing.
It was the weariness after a long search, the almost burning focus of finally reuniting, and a hint of something deeply buried, almost imperceptible...
Wronged?
He stared intently at Yu Fuli, as if trying to etch every line of the fiery red fox mask on his face into his eyes.
"Teacher," his voice was hoarser than before, no longer muffled by metal, the suppressed emotion appearing even more raw, "Now, do you recognize me?"
Yu Fuli froze completely.
It's not because the face is so amazing, well, it is amazing.
Rather, it was because he was absolutely certain that he had never seen this person before!
I have absolutely no recollection of it.
But the other person's eyes, tone, and almost obsessive certainty were not acting at all.
A tremendous sense of absurdity and crisis simultaneously gripped Yu Fuli.
This is a huge misunderstanding! This isn't an apology at all; it's practically a forced association!
"Wait, wait!" Yu Fuli subconsciously took another step back, her back pressed against the cold edge of the bar, with nowhere left to retreat.
He raised his hands, making a pause gesture. "Excuse me... classmate, I think there must be a huge misunderstanding! I'm really not the person you're looking for! I swear! I swear on my luck with women for the next hundred years!"
He was so anxious that he blurted out whatever he wanted, and his true colors were practically popping out.
Yunbai seemed not to hear his denial, instead taking a step closer, her gaze fixed on him, her tone carrying an almost obsessive insistence: "Have you forgotten? You were the one who brought me out of that place. You taught me to read, taught me how to become stronger, and you said... when I grow up, you would tell me your name."
With each word he spoke, Yu Fuli shook his head like a rattle drum.
"No! Absolutely not! What place? The furthest I've ever been is the zoo in the next city!" Yu Fuli was practically going crazy. What was all this nonsense?! "Hey classmate, wake up! Look at me, how old am I? Do I look like someone who could teach a student as old as... uh, as amazing as you?!"
Yu Fuli was filled with regret. If only she had known, she should have run away downstairs without a care, even if it meant fighting those men in black!
Now look what's happened! I'm stuck in this isolated private room, unable to call for help, trying to reason with an S-level student who's mistaken me for someone else and is incredibly stubborn.
Yun Bai's eyes dimmed, but the stubborn light within them did not fade. He stared intently at Yu Fuli, as if trying to find a flaw in his disguise in every subtle expression and movement.
"It's you." He repeated stubbornly, his voice lower but carrying an undeniable weight. "I can't be wrong. Your scent, your little gestures—even after more than a decade, I remember them."
Yu Fuli felt a deep sense of powerlessness.
He took a deep breath, forcing himself to calm down. If force didn't work, it seemed he had no choice but to…
How about trying something else?
He raised his hand and touched the fiery red fox mask on his face.
