Chapter 20

Climbing the Ventilation Ducts

Yunbai's breath hitched almost imperceptibly, her gaze fixed on his fingers.

Yu Fuli slowly removed her mask.

A similarly young face, even slightly flushed from the alcohol, with delicate and beautiful features, was revealed.

Her hair was slightly disheveled, her eyes were moist from the tension just now and the helplessness at the moment, and her lips were slightly pursed—it was Ms. Yu, the new teacher of Class F at Saint Laurent Academy, only she had lost the gentle elegance on the podium and gained a bit more of the vibrancy and embarrassment that belonged to the night.

"Look closely, Yunbai." Yu Fuli pointed to her face, her tone more serious than ever before. "Is this the face of your teacher as you remember her?"

He gave it up.

Anyway, the teacher Yunbai was looking for was from more than ten years ago, so their ages didn't match at all.

Perhaps the quickest way to escape is to shatter his illusions with my true appearance.

Yun Bai's gaze, like the most precise scanner, swept inch by inch over Yu Fuli's forehead, brow bone, eyes, nose, lips, and jaw...

Time flowed slowly in the silence.

Yu Fuli held her breath, waiting for the other person to wake up from their obsession, or at least to have doubts.

However, Yun Bai stared for a very long time, so long that Yu Fuli almost thought time had stopped.

Finally, Yunbai slowly, very slightly, shook her head.

Yu Fuli felt a sense of relief.

See? They definitely made a mistake!

But before he could even catch his breath, he heard Yunbai say with great delight:

"So this is what you look like, teacher!"

Yu Fuli: "..."

So you've never even seen what your teacher looks like?!

Sensing Yu Fuli's speechless expression, Yun Bai raised her eyes and looked deeply into Yu Fuli's eyes once more.

"Although I've never seen what the teacher looks like, the feeling is the same."

It's over.

This kid is hopeless. He doesn't recognize people by their faces at all! He relies on some kind of mysterious intuition!

Yu Fuli felt as if he had fallen into a quagmire of logical dead ends, while the other party held a guide to finding a master that he could not understand at all.

Just as he was almost desperately considering whether to reveal his true form (even if it would terrify people) to prove that he was truly a fox and not a human—

"Bang! Bang bang bang!"

The door to the private room was suddenly knocked on urgently and forcefully from the outside, breaking the stagnant atmosphere inside.

A man in black's anxious voice came through the door, low but clearly audible:

"Young Master! Emergency! Something's happened at the warehouse in the western suburbs! We've lost contact with the people we sent to take over!"

"Very good!"

Yu Fuli's eyes lit up, and he almost blurted it out, even clapping his hands unconsciously!

As soon as he finished speaking, he felt two gazes.

A man in black from the doorway and a woman in white from in front of him simultaneously pinned him to the spot.

The air in the private room seemed to freeze for a moment.

"Cough cough!" Yu Fuli suddenly realized what was happening, quickly covered her mouth, coughed twice, and immediately put on a serious and concerned expression. "I mean, this is really, really bad! Yunbai, since you have an emergency, I won't keep you from handling your business! You go ahead and do your work!"

He spoke rapidly, turning sideways as he tried to slip out between Yunbai and the bar, his movements as swift as the wind.

Goodbye! Oh no, let's talk another day!

My fingertips were about to touch the doorknob—

The collar at the back of my neck suddenly tightened!

An irresistible force lifted him backward, his feet nearly leaving the ground.

The escape attempt froze instantly, like a cat caught by the scruff of its neck by fate.

Yu Fuli: "...?!"

He was spun halfway by the force, then steadily "placed" back half a step away from Yunbai.

It even swayed slightly due to inertia.

Yunbai's hand was still loosely holding the back of his collar, while her other hand had already put the silver mask back on.

The gaze from behind the mask fell on his face. Although he had no expression, Yu Fuli managed to read a hint of "Trying to run away?"

"The situation in the western suburbs is unclear and may be dangerous. Teacher, please wait for me here. I'll be right back."

After Yun Bai finished speaking, she turned to face the door and raised her voice slightly: "Mo Yi, guard this place. Before I return, no one is allowed to disturb us, and no one is allowed to leave."

"Yes, young master!" came Mo Yi's calm and unwavering reply from outside the door.

After quickly arranging everything, Yun Bai took one last deep look at Yu Fuli before turning and striding away with the other men in black.

The footsteps quickly faded away, but the door to the private room was not completely closed.

Through the crack in the door, Yu Fuli could glimpse at least two black figures standing like iron towers, silently and faithfully carrying out their guard duties.

Yu Fuli stood there until the commotion outside completely disappeared, then slowly blinked in disbelief.

He slowly walked to the door, glanced through the crack to confirm the presence of at least four bodyguards outside, and then silently retreated to the center of the room.

Yu Fuli: "…………"

Is it really necessary?! Is it really necessary?!

He raised his hand and rubbed his temples, feeling a deep sense of powerlessness.

Is it necessary to deploy such a large force to guard an important suspect in order to deal with just one person?

Could he possibly defeat Mo Yi...? Well, he probably can't.

Four?! Is this to prevent him from escaping or to prevent the army from breaking him out of prison?!

He walked to the sofa, threw himself into the soft leather cushions in frustration, stared at the magnificent crystal chandelier on the ceiling, and let out a long, melancholy sigh.

Life is hard for foxes.

but!

Fox, for him, the phrase "sitting and waiting to die" doesn't even exist in his dictionary!

The most urgent task is to escape this private room as quickly as possible before that damned child returns!

Here comes the problem.

There were four well-trained, burly men outside the door, plus the unfathomable Mo Yi. Forcing their way in would be tantamount to walking into a trap.

Yu Fuli was frowning and thinking quickly: should she pretend to have a sudden serious illness, or make up an excuse to go help out in the kitchen...?

[Host, go to the innermost stall in the restroom. I've loosened the screws on the ventilation duct above. Now you can move it; the duct is wide enough for your fox form to pass through, leading to a secluded back alley on the side of the building.]

The system's voice suddenly rang in my mind.

Yu Fuli's eyes lit up instantly!

This system truly lives up to its reputation! It's reliable in crucial moments!

He was almost moved to tears (of course he wasn't), and immediately had an idea.

He stretched, feigning composure, slowly stood up, and walked towards the private restroom in the VIP room.

As he passed the door, he even gave a casual smile to Mo Yi, who stood like a guardian deity outside the crack in the door, and said in a relaxed tone:

"Uh, I'm going to the restroom. Your young master said no one is allowed to disturb him, which should include you, right?"

Mo Yi glanced at him through the crack in the door, his gaze calm, and did not stop him, but Yu Fuli could feel that the other party's attention was completely locked on him.

He calmly walked into the bathroom, closed the door behind him, and even turned on the tap to make a running sound as a cover.

Immediately, his sharp gaze locked onto the seemingly perfectly sealed ventilation vent cover above the innermost compartment.

He stepped onto the toilet seat, reached out and tentatively pushed it, and the seat loosened!

The system is absolutely honest!

He carefully moved the cover aside, revealing the dark pipe opening, from which a gust of wind mixed with dust and dampness blew out.

The width was just right for him to pass through in his fox form.

Yu Fuli glanced back at the closed bathroom door, took a deep breath, put her mask back on (even when escaping, she had to maintain an air of mystery!), and braced herself against the edge of the pipe with both hands and feet.

Then, with a bang, the white mist dissipated.

A fluffy white fox was half-hanging at the pipe opening, and the next second it struggled to climb inside.

The pipes were narrow, dark, and covered in dust.

But for a fox spirit with agile skills, this is nothing.

He crouched low and carefully and quickly crawled forward along the pipe, with only one thought in his mind:

I'm outta here! Goodbye, Fox!
