Chapter 39

Shura Field

The wind in the courtyard seemed to have stopped, and the servants in the distance had already retreated.

Only two equally proud men, both accustomed to being in control, and a fox whose fate hangs in the balance between them.

Yu Fuli's heart was pounding wildly in his chest.

He could feel the slight vibration from Jiang Yu's chest, and he could also see the unmistakable, almost tangible coldness in Xiao Chi's eyes.

This is not what he wanted!

What he wanted was to escape the chaos, not to become a prize in a power struggle between two lunatics!

"Moreover," Jiang Yu changed the subject, "I've investigated. You found this fox in the lower city. Its appearance, with its glossy fur and robust build, doesn't look like something you'd keep in the lower city. It must have an owner."

"Xiao Chi, look, he doesn't belong to you." Jiang Yu laughed wildly, frantically stabbing knives into Xiao Chi's body.

Yu Fuli just wanted to curl up into a ball and silently chant in her heart, "Can't see me, can't see me, can't see me."

Xiao Chi's pupils contracted at Jiang Yu's words. He knew all too well that this intelligent white fox had an owner.

He just doesn't want to admit it.

"Then he doesn't belong to you either, and besides, I'm the one who saved him."

Jiang Yu was also provoked and retorted without hesitation, "But he's willing to come with me."

Just moments before this suffocating stalemate was about to reach its breaking point—

Xiao Chi suddenly moved.

He didn't try to steal it; instead, he completely ignored Jiang Yu and turned his gaze back to Yu Fuli.

That gaze was extremely complex, with a cold exterior concealing a surge of anger at being trespassed, and an even deeper desire for control.

He stopped waiting. His outstretched hand reached forward, aiming precisely at Yu Fuli's nape. It was the most direct, effective, and dominant way to subdue cats and dogs.

This action completely ignited the flame in Jiang Yu's eyes.

"Hey!" He jerked his arm around Yu Fuli back, his smile fading and replaced by genuine anger. "Xiao Chi! Don't go too far!"

Just as Xiao Chi's fingers were about to touch his fur, Yu Fuli's animal instincts and accumulated resentment erupted at the same time!

He suddenly struggled, shaking his head, not towards Jiang Yu, nor to jump towards Xiao Chi, but out of extreme resistance to being treated as an object to be fought over and manipulated at will, he opened his mouth and bit down on Xiao Chi's outstretched wrist!

The movements were as fast as lightning.

The teeth didn't actually pierce the skin, but the moment they touched the cool wrist bone, Yu Fuli exerted a little force, leaving clear and deep teeth marks. He immediately released his grip, letting out a threatening growl. His fur stood on end, and two clusters of angry fire burned in his amber eyes.

Time seemed to stand still for a second.

Xiao Chi stopped moving.

He looked down at the freshly made teeth marks on his wrist, some even faintly bleeding, and for the first time, a subtle, almost bewildered expression appeared on his face.

Jiang Yu was also stunned. Then, an even more amazing light burst forth in his eyes, a mixture of shock, ecstasy, and excitement at discovering a priceless treasure.

"Ha! Hahaha!!" He couldn't help but burst into laughter, hugging the struggling fox tightly in his arms. His gaze towards Xiao Chi was filled with undisguised provocation and smugness. "See? Xiao Chi! It didn't want to! It chose me! It even dared to bite your hand, hahahaha! That's awesome! I really love it!"

Xiao Chi slowly raised his head.

The teeth marks on his wrist still seemed to throb faintly, but his expression had returned to its icy coldness, even more so than before.

Beneath that cold exterior lies a storm brewing.

He didn't look at Jiang Yu again; his gaze, like a cold icicle, was fixed on Yu Fuli.

That look sent a chill down Yu Fuli's spine, which had just been burning with righteous indignation at the moment, to the top of his head.

[Warning! Warning!] The system alarm became urgent. [Xiao Chi's desire for control has been thwarted, resulting in an extremely high tendency to tame/punish! Danger level exceeds the red threshold! Jiang Yu's interest/possessiveness is growing exponentially due to the host's rebellious behavior! Double high-risk alert! Host, immediately cease all provocative behavior!]

Yu Fuli remained frozen in Jiang Yu's arms, her bristling fur still standing, but she was already inwardly groaning.

Oh no, it seems like... we've gone too far.

Xiao Chi did not speak again.

He withdrew his hand, even slowly straightening his wrinkled cuffs to cover the teeth mark.

Then, he raised his eyes, looked at Jiang Yu, and a smile actually appeared on his lips.

"Very well," he said, his voice eerily calm. "Jiang Yu, take it and get out of my place."

Jiang Yu raised an eyebrow, preparing to utter some victor's lines.

Xiao Chi's next words echoed clearly in the courtyard as dusk deepened: "Remember, you took them. And remember, my things, even if they're temporarily left with someone else."

He paused, each word sharp and chilling, "Sooner or later, we'll get it back, with interest."

After saying that, he stopped looking at anyone, turned around, and walked straight towards the main gate of the house. His back was straight and indifferent, as if the struggle had never happened.

But the words left behind were like a cold shackle, binding Jiang Yu and Yu Fuli.

Jiang Yu's smugness faded somewhat, and a hint of serious thought flashed in his azure eyes, but it was quickly overshadowed by even greater interest.

He looked down at the fox in his arms, who was clearly also shocked and seemed somewhat bewildered. His smile returned, but it was unfathomable.

"Did you hear that, little beauty?" he said softly, as if to comfort her, or as if to declare, "You belong to me for now."

"However," he said, holding Yu Fuli in his arms, turning to walk towards his sports car, his voice carried away by the wind, "things seem to be getting more and more interesting."

Yu Fuli was placed in the passenger seat.

The sports car engine roared arrogantly as it sped away from Xiao Chi's villa like an arrow.

He turned around and, through the gradually blurring car window, saw the luxurious yet cold building rapidly shrinking until it finally disappeared into the twilight.

The feeling of biting still lingered on my wrist, as did Xiao Chi's cold, piercing gaze.

Having escaped one cage, they seem to have willingly jumped into the center of a more complex and dangerous vortex.

Xiao Chi's words, "Take it back with interest," hung like the Sword of Damocles on the unknown road ahead.

Yu Fuli gazed at the rapidly receding night view outside the window, feeling somewhat lost for the first time.

Because of that one bite, the original plan completely deviated from its intended course.

What awaits him ahead?
