Chapter 7
Kill him
Watching himself being swiftly taken down and even looking somewhat disheveled on the screen, Jiang Yu was not angry at all. Instead, the smile on his lips deepened, and his gaze became so focused that it was almost eerie, revealing a hint of satisfied infatuation.
Wen Qiaoan watched calmly.
He remembered that this friend of his had always been arrogant and haughty, but he didn't have any particular fondness for watching himself get beaten up.
"bite--"
The phone suddenly emitted a low battery warning sound, and the screen went dark.
Jiang Yu blinked as if waking from a dream, put down her phone with lingering interest, and looked up to find Wen Qiaoan standing silently by the bedside, her eyes full of disgust.
"What are you doing here?!" Jiang Yu sat up straight instantly, the infatuated look on her face completely gone, as if the person who was just grinning at the screen was a completely different person.
He instinctively placed his phone screen face down on his lap, the movement so quick it seemed like an attempt to cover it up.
Wen Qiaoan didn't answer, but slowly pulled a new pair of sterile gloves from the pocket of her white coat, put them on leisurely, and elegantly smoothed the edges with her fingertips.
Only after he had done all this did he raise his eyes.
"This is my infirmary." His voice was as gentle as if he were stating the day's weather. "And you are a registered patient. In theory, I should come and check on your injuries."
He leaned slightly forward, his gaze falling on Jiang Yu's bare neck and wrists. Apart from some redness from exercise, there wasn't even a decent bruise to be found.
"However, it now seems that the title of 'patient' is debatable."
Jiang Yu was taken aback by his words, then gave his usual nonchalant smile, trying to dispel the embarrassment of being caught: "What could have happened? It was just a minor squabble, and the people below made a mountain out of a molehill by insisting on sending me here."
He flexed his wrists, but his eyes unconsciously drifted towards the phone that was being held captive.
"Minor injury?" Wen Qiaoan straightened up, walked to the medical cart next to her, picked up the electronic medical record board, slid her fingertip across the screen, and read out the record: "Mild soft tissue contusion, possibly accompanied by suspected transient slow reaction time. It is recommended to observe for signs of concussion... The reason for being brought to the hospital is that she was found unconscious on Cherry Blossom Avenue."
"Ha, you got knocked unconscious by an over-the-shoulder throw. If it weren't for a kind classmate passing by who found you, you probably would have been lying on the ground all night."
Wen Qiao paused for a moment, then added, "Not only am I completely unharmed, but I can also repeatedly watch the high-definition video of myself being subdued here, and display a... well, a pleased expression that doesn't fit any known post-traumatic stress disorder."
Jiang Yu's smile faltered slightly, but he quickly adjusted, leaning back against the soft pillows, crossing his arms, and his blue eyes regained that familiar, interested light: "Dr. Wen, you're very observant. Yes, I did observe, and I quite enjoyed it. What, is that against the clinic's rules?"
"No violation." Wen Qiaoan put the medical record back in its place, took off her gloves, and moved meticulously. "It's just that as your friend and temporary health supervisor, I have an obligation to remind you that excessive excitement and repeatedly watching stimulating images are not conducive to the recovery of your nervous system, even if you don't have any visible injuries."
He walked to the window and adjusted the angle of the blinds to let the light in more evenly. "Besides, does Yunbai know how much you admire this Teacher Yu? I heard that he also receives special attention from this teacher in class."
Upon hearing Yun Bai's name, Jiang Yu's eyes flickered, but the corners of his mouth curled into an even more pronounced smile: "Him? Who can guess what's on his face behind that mask? But..."
He drawled out his words, finally unable to resist picking up his phone again, his fingertips tracing the darkened screen. "This Teacher Yu is quite interesting. I originally just wanted to apologize on behalf of Xiaobai, and also... get to know her."
He recalled the sudden closeness and abrupt departure of the breath under the umbrella in the rain, the cold rejection concealing a provocative edge that almost made him tremble, and his throat involuntarily moved.
"And the result?" Wen Qiaoan turned around, leaned against the windowsill, put her hands back in her white coat pockets, her expression still calm, as if she were just asking about the progress of an ordinary case.
"The result?" Jiang Yu chuckled softly, but there was no warmth in his laughter; instead, there was a burning heat, as if he had been ignited. "The result is that I want to get to know him even more now. Very much."
"But judging from your expression, you'd rather fuck him to death."
"Your heart rate is a little too fast, Jiang Yu," Wen Qiaoan said calmly at the end. "Although the monitor isn't on, I can tell. For the sake of duty, I suggest you stay under observation for an hour. As for your new interest..."
He walked to the door, placed his hand on the doorknob, turned his head, and the edge of his gold-rimmed glasses reflected a cold light.
"The college has very strict rules for recruiting teachers; be careful not to play with fire and get burned."
The door closed gently, returning the silence to Jiang Yu.
Jiang Yu stared at the door, the smile on his face gradually fading, leaving only a burning flame in his eyes.
He turned his phone screen back on, and the image that captured the moment Yu Fuli turned away from him, her eyes coldly lowered.
As his fingertips traced the face on the screen, Jiang Yu's voice was so low that only he could hear it:
"Playing with fire? I'll see who ends up burning the last one."
Jiang Yu didn't take Wen Qiaoan's warning to heart.
The college has strict rules for recruiting teachers, one of which is that the family background requirement cannot be too low, so as to avoid being bullied by students.
But how high could Yu Fuli's family background be?
Can it be as tall as his house?
Besides, he had investigated Yu Fuli before. Although he hadn't found anything, it didn't mean that it was some unknown small family.
It's just for fun, there's no need to make a big deal out of it.
