Chapter 15

Happy Supermarket

"Take a break...go to the lounge for a drink of water..." Manager Sun's voice was hoarse, his lips were already chapped. The intense tension and running had taken a toll on their physical strength.

The group carefully helped each other towards the staff break room. Inside, the stain that belonged to Xiaomin was still a shocking sight.

The only water dispenser was still there. Liu Wei was the first to rush over, grab a paper cup to fill it with water, but his hands were shaking so badly that a lot of water spilled out.

"There's only one... Rule Five says if you see a second one, don't use it..." Liu Wei said nervously, glancing around as he drank water.

Just then, Ah Jie suddenly pointed to the corner of the wall and said in a panic, "Is there...is there another one over there?"

Everyone looked in the direction he pointed, and there stood a second water dispenser in the corner that had been empty! It looked exactly like the first one!

Rule 5: There is only one water dispenser in the lounge. If you see a second one, please do not use the water from it.

"Don't look! Pretend it doesn't exist!" Old Wu hissed.

Everyone forced themselves to look away and focus solely on the first water dispenser. Manager Sun and Wang Hu also took turns filling their glasses and drinking.

Shi Mo also took a cup, but he only glanced at it and didn't drink it. The system told him that although the water wasn't poisonous, it contained a trace of chaotic energy, and drinking too much of it wouldn't do any good.

A-Jie hesitated for a moment. He was so thirsty, and he thought queuing for the first water dispenser would be too much trouble. But somehow, he went to the second water dispenser instead.

"No!" Liu Wei tried to stop him, but it was too late.

Ah Jie picked up a paper cup next to the second water dispenser, filled it with clear, transparent water, and drank it down.

"The taste... is a little sweet?" A-Jie smacked his lips.

The next second, his body suddenly froze, his eyes instantly turned pure black, and it felt as if countless insects were crawling beneath his skin. He threw down the water glass, gripped his neck tightly with both hands, and made a strange "gurgling" sound.

"Water...water..." He twisted his face toward the others, a grotesque smile spreading across his lips, revealing sharpened teeth. "More...I want more..."

He pounced on Liu Wei, who was closest to him, like a wild beast.

"Get out of the way!" Wang Hu reacted quickly, kicking A-Jie in the stomach, sending him flying and crashing into the wall.

A-Jie scrambled to his feet as if nothing had happened, landing on all fours and lunging again in an inhuman posture. He was faster and stronger.

"He's been contaminated! Kill him!" Manager Sun screamed.

Old Wu and Wang Hu exchanged a glance and stepped forward simultaneously. Old Wu grabbed the frenzied A-Jie, while Wang Hu grabbed a metal stool from the break room and smashed it hard on A-Jie's head!

"Bang! Bang! Bang!"

One, two, three... until A-Jie stopped moving, black blood and white brain matter spilled all over the ground.

Wang Hu, panting heavily, threw away the deformed stool and stared at A-Jie's barely recognizable corpse, his face grim. They had killed a "person," though that person was no longer human.

Survivors: Six.

The atmosphere became even more oppressive and eerie.

The work didn't seem to be over yet. They silently returned to the store and continued the mechanical and desperate "service" and "restocking."

Time ticked by, feeling as if a century had passed. Finally, when the clock struck the eighth hour—

"Ding-dong—" The last customer came in.

He was a man dressed in a well-tailored suit and tie, but his face had no features, only smooth skin. He pushed an empty cart and went straight to the grain and oil section that Shi Mo was in charge of.

The faceless man stopped in front of the "Happiness Brand" premium peanut oil noodles and "looked" at Shi Mo with his mouthless face.

"Employee," a voice rang out directly in my mind, cold and clear, "I believe this bottle of oil is of inferior quality."

Everyone's hearts were in their throats. Another product-questioning incident! Almost exactly the same situation as the first old lady! Rule Two: The customer is always right. You must smile and reply, "Okay, I'll be right there for you."

Everyone thought that Shi Mo would be forced to admit to this unfounded accusation, just like the first woman, Li Li, and then face unknown horrors.

Wang Hu had even clenched his fists, ready to deal with any possible changes at any moment. Manager Sun and Liu Wei held their breath. Old Wu's eyes flickered.

However, Shi Mo simply looked at the faceless man calmly, his heterochromatic pupils devoid of any emotion. He replied in his signature, flat tone, "Okay, I'll serve you right away."

Then, to everyone's astonishment, he reached out and picked up the bottle of "Happiness Brand" peanut oil that had been accused of being "inferior."

The next second, he exerted force with his arm and smashed the bottle of oil hard and accurately at the faceless man's smooth face!

"Bang—crash!"

The glass bottle shattered instantly! Thick, golden peanut oil poured over the Faceless Man's entire body! The immense impact caused him to stagger backward, knocking over a shelf and scattering goods all over the floor!

The faceless man seemed completely unprepared for this kind of "service." He stood frozen in place, covered in grease, and his faceless form seemed to convey a sense of bewilderment and disbelief.

The entire supermarket was deathly silent.

Wang Hu opened his mouth wide.

Liu Wei's glasses slipped off again.

Manager Sun's eyes nearly popped out of their sockets.

Old Wu's pupils contracted slightly.

Everyone seemed frozen in place, with only one thought in their minds: What...what did he do?! He attacked a customer?! He's dead!

Rule number two: The customer is always right! He not only questioned the customer (through his actions), but also resorted to violence!

The oil stains on the faceless man's body began to writhe, emitting a dangerous black aura, and a powerful sense of oppression began to spread, stronger than any of the previous customers!

Just then, Shi Mo, as if having completed a trivial task, dusted off non-existent dust from his hands and, still in his calm tone, added to the faceless man who was beginning to twist and deform: "Service details: Verifying the quality of this bottle of oil for you. It now appears that the seal is indeed poor, classifying it as a substandard product. Thank you for your feedback; we will remove this product from our shelves."

No-Face: "..."

All candidates: "..."

system:【!!!】

The terrifying aura that was about to erupt suddenly froze. The black aura surrounding the faceless man seemed to be making some kind of logical judgment.

"Customer points out product defect" -> "Employee provides service (forceful verification)" -> "Verification confirms product defect (bottle broken)" -> "Employee thanks customer for pointing it out" -> "Is the process...compliant with regulations?"

Rule number two: the customer is always right. He pointed out that the oil was of poor quality, and now the "verification" confirms he was right. The employee also expressed his gratitude.

So...is the employee's behavior... fulfilling their duties? Although this service method is a bit unusual...

The black aura emanating from the faceless man slowly dissipated, and the oppressive aura gradually dissipated. He stood there, his oil-stained body looking somewhat comical. Finally, he silently and somewhat stiffly turned around, pushed his empty cart, and walked step by step out of the supermarket. He even forgot why he had come there in the first place.

"Ding-dong—" The door closed.

The supermarket remained eerily silent.

Several seconds passed before Liu Wei, trembling, looked at Shi Mo with eyes that seemed to look at a god (or a devil), his voice dry: "This...this...is okay?"

Wang Hu swallowed hard and muttered, "A madman... he's really a madman..."

Manager Sun looked at Shi Mo, his eyes filled with apprehension and a hint of barely perceptible fear. Old Wu silently lowered his head.

But in any case, the crisis was over. And after that commotion, no new customers came in.

[Work hours are over. Thank you for your hard work.] The cold, impersonal announcement finally rang out again.

The six survivors simultaneously found a pure white door beneath their feet.

Listen quietly to this gift from the abyss...

……

The contract is complete; what you desire awaits you outside the door.

Apart from Shi Mo, the other five people, looking completely exhausted, with complex and indescribable expressions in their eyes, scrambled into the pure white gate as if escaping from hell.

Shi Mo was the last to leave. He glanced at the messy grain and oil area and the puddle of peanut oil that hadn't dried yet, a hint of boredom flashing in his heterochromatic eyes.

The F-rank dungeon was indeed utterly unchallenging.

The only fun part was probably the bewildered reaction of the faceless man at the end.

He stepped into the pure white space.

Behind him, the scene of Happiness Supermarket slowly faded away, as if it had never existed. Only the selected candidates and a certain faceless customer with his face smeared with grease would forever remember this unconventional white-haired employee.
