Chapter 53
Abandoned Hospital, Level Cleared
Shi Mo's disregard for the rules and his ruthless elimination of all family members was like igniting a boiling oil pan.
The dean's body, composed of shadows and resentment, swelled and twisted violently. A terrifying energy storm swept through the entire hall from his center, cracking the walls, tearing up the floor, and countless painful screams converged into a destructive roar!
"You broke the contract! You destroyed the balance of years! You will pay the price!!" The dean's voice was like the wailing of a thousand wronged souls, filled with a frenzied killing intent. "I will imprison your soul here forever, to suffer endless torment!"
[Host! Warning! Highest level warning! Boss has gone completely berserk! Energy level exceeds the limit of B-level dungeon! You cannot defeat it! Evacuate immediately! Repeat, evacuate immediately!] The system issued an unprecedentedly sharp alarm in Shi Mo's mind, almost piercing his consciousness.
The surviving candidates trembled under the devastating pressure, their faces filled with despair. Hong Yuan and You Ying tried to stand in front of Shi Mo, but were forced back by the invisible shockwave.
However, Shi Mo, at the center of the storm, remained expressionless. He even had the leisure to raise his hand and gently wipe away a drop of blood belonging to a family member that had splattered on his cheek with his fingertips.
Faced with the overwhelming resentment that could annihilate the soul, he seemed to be facing only a slightly stronger breeze.
Just before the destructive energy gathered by the dean was about to completely erupt, Shi Mo calmly took out a card from what appeared to be an ordinary pocket (actually a system space).
That is not any credit card or identity document in the known world.
It was pitch black, as if it were made of the deepest hell iron, with visible, bone-chilling yin energy swirling around its edges. The card's surface was covered with flowing, dark runes containing the laws of life, death, and wealth—a black card from the underworld.
He casually flicked the card, which exuded an aura of both ominousness and nobility, towards the distorted shadow of the dean in the air.
The card floated lightly toward the dean, seemingly unaffected by the terrifying energy field.
Shi Mo's voice remained calm, even slightly nonchalant, clearly reaching the "ears" of every being (including the monsters) amidst the destructive clamor: "Their medical expenses," he pointed to the surviving, bewildered patients, then glanced at the shocking bloodstains on the ground, "I'll cover them."
He paused, his gaze falling on the black card that the dean had instinctively caught.
"This card's credit limit should be enough to buy your lousy hospital, right?"
Time seems to stand still at this moment.
The dean's shadowy hand, imbued with terrifying energy, trembled violently the instant it touched the card, as if branded with a hot iron! All his movements, all his roars, all his killing intent came to an abrupt halt at that moment!
He stared incredulously at the card in his hand, sensing the power of the Law of Wealth contained within it—a power so pure and immeasurable, so vast and immeasurable, and imbued with absolute Netherworld authority!
This... this is a token that only the high-ranking officials of the Underworld, no, even the supreme beings who control reincarnation and wealth, could possess! The wealth it represents is more than enough to buy his dilapidated hospital, which he can only maintain by cheating and swindling and absorbing resentment, or even to empty out an entire area of the eighteen levels of hell!
The overwhelming killing intent, like a balloon punctured by a needle, rapidly deflated and vanished without a trace.
The dean's twisted and terrifying shadowy face underwent a spectacular face-changing show in a fraction of a second—from extreme anger to extreme shock, then to extreme fear, and finally settling on extreme flattery and awe!
His massive, shadowy form suddenly contracted, becoming even more solid than before. Then, with an almost comical speed, he floated down from the platform, bowing deeply before Shi Mo at nearly a ninety-degree angle. His voice became incredibly humble, even trembling slightly: "Enough! Enough! Absolutely enough! My lord! You...you should have said so sooner! This...this is truly a case of the flood washing away the Dragon King's temple! We're family now, yet we don't recognize each other!"
He held the black card from the underworld in both hands as if it were a priceless treasure, his tone full of flattery, "Everything's negotiable! Everything's negotiable! Look at this mess... it's all a misunderstanding! A huge misunderstanding!"
As the hospital director's attitude made a complete 180-degree turn, the cataclysmic phenomena within the hospital receded like a receding tide. The cracked walls returned to normal, the ripped floorboards became smooth, the raging energy storm dissipated, and even the hideous monsters lay prostrate on the ground, trembling, not daring to utter a sound.
The entire hall fell into an even more eerie silence than before.
The fifteen surviving candidates, including Red Kite, Shadow, and the Doctor, all gaped wide-eyed, their eyes nearly popping out of their sockets, their brains completely shutting down.
They looked at the dean who was about to destroy the world one second and was now bowing and scraping like a servant the next, and then at Shi Mo who simply threw out a card and solved everything without showing any expression. They felt as if their worldview had been completely crushed and rebuilt.
What the hell is going on here?!
[Rank B dungeon [Abandoned Hospital] mission completed. Surviving participants: 15.]
The system notification sounded at the right time, carrying a cacophony of relief and utter bewilderment.
A gray mist began to spread.
Shi Mo acted as if he had only done something insignificant. Without even glancing at the fawning dean, he said calmly to the still-dazed crowd, "I'm leaving."
Then, amidst the almost fawning farewells of the director, who kept saying "Take care, sir! Welcome to visit again!", he led a group of dazed survivors calmly into the gray mist, leaving behind the "abandoned hospital" that had left such a deep (and eerie) impression on them.
The instance has ended.
What remained was a scene of utter chaos (bloodstains), a strangely respectful dean boss, and fourteen candidates who were questioning the meaning of life.
