Chapter 50

Abandoned Hospital

The scene inside the dean's office was completely different from the dilapidated state of the outside world.

The place was exceptionally clean, even luxurious, with mahogany desks, leather chairs, and crystal chandeliers (though not lit). Everything was covered in a thick layer of dust, as if time had stood still. The air was thick with the strange scents of aged cigars, expensive perfumes, and a deeper, almost tangible resentment.

Shi Mo's gaze quickly swept across the room, finally landing on the large mahogany desk. On the desk, besides the usual stationery, there was a thick booklet wrapped in some kind of black leather, with no words on the cover.

He stepped forward and opened the booklet. Inside were not ordinary records, but rather a series of uniformly formatted...contracts.

[Contracting Party (Family Member): XXX]

[Patient under trusteeship: XXX]

[Reason: The patient's condition is critical, and the treatment costs are exorbitant, which the family cannot afford.]

[Terms: The family voluntarily agrees to permanently transfer the remanded patient to St. Mary's Hospital, relinquishing all rights of visitation and inquiries. The hospital promises to provide "humanitarian care" until the end of life.]

[The cost: The family pays a "custody fee" (the amount is far lower than the actual treatment cost, but it is still a figure that ordinary families cannot afford), and voluntarily contributes a portion of their "family bond" as a means of channeling positive energy.]

[Note: The visit date is the date on which the final payment is settled and the "custody" arrangement is confirmed to be complete.]

As you turn the pages, you see countless names "abandoned" by their loved ones, followed by cold sums of money and blood-red fingerprints. These contracts, like indentures of souls, permanently sell those lives considered a "burden" to this cannibalistic hospital in exchange for the "liberation" of their families and the "nutrients" to keep the hospital running.

The so-called "humanitarian care" is actually using magic arrays to absorb the patient's life energy and resentment. The so-called "visiting day" is nothing more than a time for family members to come and confirm whether the "goods" have been "disposed of" cleanly, so as to completely end this dirty transaction.

Shi Mo's eyes were icy. He had found the "cause"—the cruel choices humanity makes under the pressure of reality, and the evil deeds this hospital carried out using despair.

He continued his search and found a small quantity of well-packaged, recently produced medicines and concentrated nutritional supplements in a hidden safe (which he forcibly destroyed). These were the things that could truly treat the patients, not poison them.

The hospital hid them and only used the spoiled and toxic supplies, with the aim of hastening the death of patients and generating resentment!

Shi Mo took photos of the key pages of the contract (using a system function) and took some samples of the actual medicines and nutrients. Just as he was about to leave, an extremely powerful, cold will filled with countless painful cries swept across the entire dean's office like an invisible tentacle.

It's the Dean's consciousness! That evil being hiding behind the scenes, controlling everything!

This intent, filled with greed, resentment, and powerful mental pressure, attempts to uncover the intruder's identity and purpose. An ordinary candidate would likely suffer an instant mental breakdown under its influence, or even be controlled in reverse.

However, Shi Mo merely snorted coldly.

He didn't even use "Yama," but his own soul position, which originated from the supreme rules, was like an indestructible barrier, firmly blocking the probing intent from the outside.

When that thought touched his mental barrier, it seemed to have crashed into an insurmountable and incomprehensible mountain, emitting a silent shriek before quickly retreating.

Although Shi Mo's exact identity remained undiscovered, this sudden and incomprehensible obstacle clearly triggered the dean's heightened alertness and anger. The office temperature plummeted, dust swished about without wind, and dark red liquid began to seep from the walls, as if the entire room were awakening and roaring!

We can't stay here long!

Without hesitation, Shi Mo flashed out of the dean's office like a ghost, gently closing the door behind him. He retraced his steps, returning even faster than before, his senses fully activated, avoiding anything that might be alerted by the dean's anger.

When he quietly returned to the third floor and locked the door of ward 301 again, he could still clearly feel the overwhelming resentment and anger coming from the direction of the dean's office on the fourth floor, like a real dark cloud, covering the entire hospital.

The evidence is in hand, and the truth is out.

The next step is to use this information to find a "cure," or... to completely "cure" this wicked hospital.

Shi Mo looked at the photos of the contracts and the real medicines in his hand, a cold glint flashing in his heterochromatic eyes.
