Chapter 65
, Rank A Dungeon
When Shi Mo reappeared in the main control hall of the seventh sequence, he had already changed out of his signature bathrobe.
He wore a soft, dark gray hooded sweatshirt, matching casual trousers, and brand-new black ankle boots. His long, silvery-white hair was still loose, but paired with this modern outfit, it lost some of his previous eerie and unpredictable aura, gaining a more aloof and youthful feel. However, his heterochromatic eyes remained unfathomable.
As soon as he walked in, he sensed that the atmosphere was unusually heavy.
Bai Xu, Bai Jin, Hong Yuan, You Ying, Lin Chen, Tie Quan, and others gathered in front of a huge monitoring screen, which displayed information about a newly detected instance entrance emitting an ominous red light.
[Fluctuations detected in a Level A rule copy]
[Copy Title: Eternal Debt Supermarket]
[Dungeon Level: A]
[Core Rule:]
[Rule 1: Each participant must purchase at least one item from any store in this supermarket before leaving.]
[Rule 2: Violence, theft, and robbery of any kind are prohibited in the supermarket.]
[Rule 3: The supermarket offers a variety of job opportunities, and applicants can earn "supermarket vouchers" by working.]
[Rule 4: There is no time limit inside the supermarket, but you are responsible for your own food and lodging during your stay (purchases made inside the supermarket).]
[Rule 5: Violators will be punished according to the severity of the offense, ranging from "physical depreciation" to "complete recycling" (death).]
Lin Chen adjusted his glasses and read the supplementary information in a heavy tone: "Based on limited historical records and energy analysis, this 'Eternal Debt Supermarket' is extremely dangerous. The prices of goods inside are outrageously high, while the wages are extremely meager. After deducting mandatory, equally expensive room and board, it is almost impossible for candidates to save enough money to buy a single item. It is known that no candidate who has been caught up in this instance has survived. They were either 'reclaimed' for violating the rules, or... they may still be trapped inside, working endlessly to pay off their debts."
The hall was silent.
Rank A dungeons are dangerous enough, but those with obvious economic traps and indefinite imprisonment are even more chilling. Nobody wants to be chosen for this dungeon; it feels like willingly signing a contract of servitude and falling into a nightmare from which there is no escape.
"Damn it, what kind of dungeon is this..." Iron Fist cursed under his breath, instinctively shrinking his neck.
Hongyuan and Youying exchanged a glance, both seeing the seriousness in each other's eyes.
Bai Jin crossed his arms, his brows furrowed.
Even Bai Xu, whose face was usually expressionless, was shrouded in gloom.
Just then, they heard footsteps.
Everyone turned around and saw Shi Mo walking over, dressed in a new outfit. His gaze fell on the scarlet dungeon information on the screen, and his heterochromatic eyes lit up slightly—the kind of look that seemed to indicate he had seen an interesting toy.
"This," Shi Mo raised his finger and tapped "Eternal Debt Supermarket" on the screen, "I want to go there."
His voice was flat, yet it was like a stone thrown into a stagnant pool.
Everyone was stunned, staring at him in disbelief.
"Shi Mo, do you know where this is?" Bai Xu spoke first, his brows furrowed. "This isn't one of those low-level dungeons you've been through before. This is Rank A, and one of the most challenging types. The rules inside are extremely restrictive; violence is almost completely prohibited. Once you go in, you might never come out again."
He tried to make Shi Mo understand the danger involved.
This instance doesn't test pure combat strength, but rather endurance, mental arithmetic, and even the torment of humanity. He didn't believe that someone like Shi Mo, who was used to crushing everything with absolute power, could adapt to that kind of environment.
Shi Mo didn't speak. He didn't even look at Bai Xu; his gaze remained fixed on the dungeon information, as if he were analyzing something.
Seeing that he remained unmoved, Bai Xu raised his voice: "The prices of goods there are astronomical, while the wages are a drop in the bucket. You might have to work there for decades, even centuries, just to afford the cheapest item! And the cost of food and lodging is equally exorbitant; you'll be completely bankrupted by debt!"
Shi Mo finally turned his head slowly, his strangely heterochromatic eyes calmly looking at Bai Xu.
He didn't refute, didn't explain, and didn't even show any emotional fluctuation. He just quietly looked at him.
Bai Xu met those eyes. The red left eye was like a frozen sea of blood, unfathomable; the golden right eye was like an ancient, burning star, indifferent and ruthless.
Being stared at by those eyes, Bai Xu felt as if his thoughts were being sucked in, a chilling feeling spreading from the depths of his soul. All the words of dissuasion he had prepared stuck in his throat, and he couldn't utter a single word.
The hall was so quiet you could hear a pin drop. Everyone held their breath, watching the silent standoff between the two.
Hong Yuan clenched her fists nervously, You Ying's body tensed slightly, her iron fist clenched wide open, and Bai Jin looked on with a surprised expression, as if to say, "Why is my brother such a coward?"
A few seconds later, Bai Xu was the first to look away, letting out a barely audible sigh. He realized he couldn't persuade him, or even endure Shi Mo's gaze for long. It seemed no one could change this man's mind once he made up his mind.
"...Alright." Bai Xu's voice was slightly hoarse, if you insist.
He turned to Lin Chen: "Record: Candidate Shi Mo has voluntarily entered the A-level instance 'Eternal Debt Supermarket'."
Lin Chen paused for a moment, then quickly began recording: "...Recording complete."
Shi Mo then withdrew his gaze, his face still expressionless, as if the silent confrontation had never occurred. He turned and walked without hesitation toward the dungeon teleportation preparation area within the base.
Just as he was about to walk out of the main control room, he paused slightly, without turning his head, leaving only two flat words: "I'm leaving."
As soon as he finished speaking, his figure disappeared at the end of the passage.
Inside the main control hall, only the core members of the Seventh Sequence remained, looking at each other in bewilderment. A silence filled the air, a mixture of worry, confusion, and a hint of absurdity.
Does he even know where he's going?
