Chapter 52

First Battle

The thief clearly hadn't expected that someone would be out on the street at two or three in the morning.

He thought that apart from the occasional rat that passed by, he was the master of this area.

Until he heard a roar.

The sudden roar startled him, making him tremble. Turning his head, he saw a gaunt old man in armor, wielding an iron rod, rushing towards him.

This is fucking surreal! Did this old man just escape from the intensive care unit of some mental hospital?

"Fuck... what is this thing?"

He glanced at what he was holding, then turned to look at Don Quixote, and immediately put it down and prepared to run away.

However, as soon as he turned around, Don Quixote's iron rod struck him on the back, knocking him to the ground.

"Fuck!" the thief roared, reaching for his waist. "What the hell are you looking for—"

"Bang!"

The thief groaned and flew two meters away, crashing heavily into a nearby trash can with a loud bang. His pistol flew out of his waist and fell seven or eight meters away.

He was like a shrimp pinned to a cutting board, writhing in agony, only able to utter suffocating "hoarse" sounds.

"Fuck... I've seen... a ghost..."

His eyes nearly popped out of their sockets. Even though the old man was still standing a meter or two away from him, it was as if a huge truck had suddenly appeared out of the empty air next to him and knocked him over head-on.

He turned his head and saw a figure standing next to him without him noticing at all.

"Well done, my friend!" Don Quixote strode forward, poking the thief convulsing on the ground with his rusty iron bar. "See! Before a true knight, as long as you know how to stealth, they're as fragile as yesterday's bread!"

Li Wei had actually been standing next to the thief the whole time, and the thief was completely unaware of it. It wasn't until he saw the thief reach for the pistol at his waist that he calmly struck out, delivering a powerful sweeping kick that accurately hit the thief in the ribs.

It seems that one cannot interact with others while in stealth mode. He thought to himself as he watched the thief staring at him as if he had seen a ghost, otherwise the stealth mode would be broken.

[Reward: Skill 'Stealth']

[Stealth: You can freely toggle this ability on and off for 60 seconds each day. During this time, you will remain invisible to the naked eye unless detected by special spotting magic.]

Li Wei closed [Stealth] with satisfaction.

How about trying it next time you go to the sauna? In his opinion, this stealth is comparable to invisibility to the naked eye. As long as he doesn't expose himself to cameras or collide with other objects, he shouldn't be detected.

The loud crash of the overturned trash can echoed through the quiet night like a hornet's nest being stirred up.

Before Li Wei could figure out how to deal with the black thief on the ground, the window on the second floor of the robbed house was pushed open with a "bang".

"Fuck! It's you damned poisoners again!"

A middle-aged white man wearing a dark blue bathrobe and sporting a large beer belly stormed out the door, carrying a double-barreled shotgun.

He had a pair of reading glasses perched on his forehead, and the fat on his face twitched with anger.

"What the hell is this medieval cosplay scene?" He rubbed his eyes.

Beside his lawn, an old man in armor, clutching an iron bar, stood with his eyes closed, striking a solemn pose, his foot planted on the convulsing black thief.

"Do not panic, my people," Don Quixote raised his iron club, his tone carrying the aria characteristic of his novels, "You are safe now, your possessions have been saved from this wicked dark elf! I am the knight Don Quixote, and this is my fellow knight Livy!"

"What the hell is this mess?" the middle-aged man yelled, tightening his grip on his hunting rifle. "Are you filming a movie? Get off my lawn!"

Li Wei quickly raised his hands, revealed a gentle smile, and pointed to the unfortunate man on the ground who was still convulsing.

"Sir, calm down. I'm a student at Franklin K. Lane High School, and this is my... slightly fuzzy-headed uncle (very quietly). We were just passing by and saw this guy climbing out of your back window, so we helped him out a little."

The middle-aged man glanced at the thief lying on the ground, then at Li Wei's handsome face, which was completely unsuitable for being a thief, and finally at the black man who was obviously a thief. The shotgun in his hand finally lowered slightly.

He crouched down and examined the package on the ground before letting out a long sigh of relief.

"Oh God, thank you," he wiped his brow, "Let me call the police first... This is the third time this month. He's a habitual offender who roams the neighborhood, and these cops say they'll only come after we catch him... A bunch of idiots who can't do anything but issue tickets."

After muttering to himself as he finished making the call to the police, he put away his hunting rifle and straightened his somewhat disheveled bathrobe.

"I am Maurice Stanford. You may have seen my name on the community bulletin board—I am the president of the community business committee for this area and the public safety inspector for Brooklyn's 7th Ward."

Li Wei's eyes lit up slightly.

Chairman of the Community Business Committee?

In places like the United States, these positions, though unpaid, wield extraordinary power. They can decide who should mow their lawn, who isn't allowed to keep a dog, and even influence government resource allocation and the selection of property management companies for the area.

"It's a pleasure to meet you, Mr. Stanford," Levy said, shaking his hand. "My uncle has a habit of sleepwalking and fantasizing at night, so let him shake your hand during the day."

"Is he a sleepwalking knight of justice at night?" Maurice Stanford said. "Interesting, but shouldn't we wake him up?"

"Absolutely not," Li Wei quietly used the phrase "talkative," "It's best not to wake a sleepwalker, otherwise I wouldn't be accompanying him out for sleepwalking every night."

"You've really worked hard, kid," Maurice Stanford patted Levi on the shoulder and said with emotion, "There aren't many good kids like you who value family and loved ones like you these days. This is a tough job."

"Sigh," Li Wei sighed, "There's nothing I can do. He's my only family."

...

A week later.

The stadium at Franklin K. Lane High School.

"Bang!!"

Another dull thud of a helmet hitting the ground.

Franklin High School's defense was like building blocks shattered by a heavy truck, and was torn apart by Tottenville High School's offensive line in the instant of a tip-off.

"Damn it! You bunch of good-for-nothings who only know how to masturbate to your mothers, hold your ground! Hold your positions!"

Head coach Miller was roaring wildly on the sidelines, his tactical board creaking in his hand.

But this is meaningless.

The glaring 0-21 score on the scoreboard was like a bright slap in the face to every Ryan High School player.

Even the cheerleading squads on both sides were completely different in spirit. The Franklin High School cheerleading squad was even somewhat discouraged, with their morale at its lowest point.

With only 3 minutes remaining in the second quarter, Franklin High School hadn't even made it into the opponent's half.
