Chapter 563
Let the President Come See Me
Chapter 563 Let the President Come See Me (2-in-1, Seeking Monthly Tickets)
An hour ago, on the North Shore of Long Island, New York.
"I think I've been crazy to come with you," the Secretary of Defense said, rubbing his temples as he sat in a bulletproof Chevrolet Suburban, glancing disapprovingly at the White House Chief of Staff sitting next to him. "What's the difference between us going to see him like this and putting a child in a lion's cage?"
Their convoy started from Washington, consisting of more than ten vehicles and escorted by over 40 fully armed special forces soldiers.
Even so, it couldn't bring him the slightest sense of security.
The White House chief of staff sitting next to him was flipping through the information and materials about Levi in his hands, and said without looking up, "You've already said that. Also, there's a difference. The difference is that it'll be easier for him to tear us apart."
"Then why are you still dragging me along!" the Defense Minister said, displeased. "Sending a negotiation expert would have been much better."
"But the difference between him and a lion is that he can speak English," the chief of staff smiled. "He has the potential to communicate."
The defense minister grinned: "You're a madman."
"How long has your global early warning network and so-called next-generation interception system been stuck in Congress?" The chief of staff closed the file and turned to look at him.
The Secretary of Defense remained silent. He had submitted Lockheed Martin's proposal long ago, but Congress had not approved it, and it was stuck in the approval stage.
"We'll meet him all today," the chief of staff said. "You assess how much budget we'd need if we were to target him."
The Minister of Defense nodded in satisfaction and did not mention returning.
After a while, the chief of staff took out his headset: "Are the people on the perimeter in position?"
Upon seeing this, the Minister of Defense chuckled, offering no comment, but his expression said it all.
"These are just necessary formalities," the chief of staff continued, flipping through Levi's files, and said to himself, "When facing a powerful opponent, being well-prepared will actually make him think you're serious."
After he finished speaking, he looked out the window at the rapidly receding fir forest and knew very well why he had come here.
The so-called allies of the Five Eyes alliance all have their own spies in the Pentagon, and it won't be long before the Russians and the Chinese will also find out.
Before anyone could react, Levi had to become a friend of America—or rather, a friend of the White House, or even a friend of some of the people behind the White House.
Before his affair can be completely covered up, whoever sits at the same table with him first will have the power to speak in the future.
"Let them in."
After hearing the butler's report, Li Wei didn't even turn his head, his attention remaining focused on the game.
Kim Ha-eun glanced at Lee Wei, then at the doorway, and stood up. "I'll excuse myself for a moment."
"Just stay put," Li Wei said. "What's there to be afraid of?"
"The Secretary of Defense and the White House Chief of Staff, the people around the president," Kim Hoon said, "it would be better to leave this to Liz."
"It's alright," Li Wei waved his hand, "It doesn't matter."
Kim Ha-eun hesitated for a moment, "I'll contact some other streaming services."
After saying that, she went to the garden to make a phone call.
When the Secretary of Defense and the Chief of Staff were led into the living room by the butler, this is what they saw:
The fire in the fireplace was burning brightly, while the most dangerous creature in all of America was sitting cross-legged on the sofa playing video games.
The Minister of Defense subconsciously recalled the profiler's words: he was a perfectly normal, even somewhat lazy, 21-year-old.
"Sit down," Li Wei said without turning his head. "Wait for me, I'll finish this game soon."
The U.S. Secretary of Defense listened to Levi's words and suddenly felt a sense of absurdity.
What is the position of the U.S. Secretary of Defense? He is the highest-ranking officer of 130 million active-duty military personnel, as well as many more reservists and civilians. He is the top manager of the National Security Agency, the Defense Intelligence Agency, and the National Reconnaissance Office. He is a powerful figure with significant influence, and in the military's operational command chain, he is the first person after the president.
Although the White House Chief of Staff has no power in name only, he is the closest person to the president. Now the president is getting a bit senile, and he decides who to see and who not to see.
It's fair to say that these two people combined could handle almost anything within the United States.
But now, they came specifically to see a 21-year-old yellow-skinned young man, only to be told to wait until he finished playing his game?
Although he knew how terrifying the power hidden beneath Li Wei's body was, the Minister of Defense still felt a very absurd and subtle sense of disorientation until he saw it with his own eyes.
The two of them sat on the sofa and carefully looked around the living room of the Levi Manor.
The decor is typical of a super-rich person; aside from being extremely wealthy and youthful, there's not a trace of any extraordinary power in it.
The maid brought in two cups of coffee and then turned to leave.
Before the two could even reach out, the two cups floated up on their own and were gently and steadily delivered to them.
Even though the chief of staff and the defense minister were mentally prepared, they were still taken aback by this.
The scene from the movie appeared before them, and the White House Chief of Staff couldn't help but reach out and feel around the coffee cup, trying to find a non-existent thread.
The coffee was good, but neither of them was in the mood to savor it properly.
"What brings you two here?" Li Wei asked casually while playing his game.
The White House Chief of Staff spoke first, saying he was a Giants fan. "That's strange," Levi interjected while playing a game, "everyone I meet claims to be a Giants fan?"
Then the conversation shifted from rugby to LW, with the Secretary of Defense saying that LW sports drinks are doing very well with military orders and everyone is very satisfied.
The chief of staff said that "The Last Dragon" was really well made, and that Levi's acting skills were definitely worthy of an Oscar for Best Actor.
Li Wei simply smiled and accepted their compliments.
He didn't expose their true intentions, but simply kept asking the maid to add more coffee for them.
After drinking five cups of coffee, the Minister of Defense finally couldn't hold back any longer. He put down his coffee cup, took a deep breath, and said, "Mr. Li Wei, let's get straight to the point."
"Oh, so you've been going in circles all this time?" Li Wei put down the game controller and teased.
"On December 16, over the North Atlantic, two F-35 fighter jets encountered a person wearing a white mask while on a mission, and flew alongside them for nearly a minute."
Without the slightest hesitation, Li Wei nodded: "It's me."
The truth was finally revealed, the mystery was finally solved, and the Minister of Defense and the Chief of Staff exchanged a glance and actually breathed a sigh of relief.
It was already a foregone conclusion that Li Wei was a superhuman; what they feared most was that Li Wei wasn't the masked man from that day.
After all, the existence of a superhuman like Livy can still be explained by genetic mutation.
If superhumans are a group, then the Secretary of Defense should really wonder if he's living in The Truman Show.
"Why are you so nervous?" Li Wei looked at the two of them and smiled. "Is there something you need?"
"Mr. Levi," Chief of Staff Allen interjected, leaning forward slightly, "I see you as a very direct person, so I'll be frank with you as well."
He stared at Li Wei: "You chose to showcase your abilities in front of ordinary people this time. What are your goals? What message are you trying to convey to us?"
When Li Wei heard the White House Chief of Staff's words, he was stunned.
What message? What message is he trying to convey?
There wasn't much information, I just suddenly saw it and didn't want to hide it anymore, I just wanted to show off.
After the chief of staff finished speaking, he lowered his head, seemingly waiting for Li Wei's reply.
Money, power, status, women—the White House has a lot to offer, and he had prepared a list before he came.
"Hmm..." he heard Li Wei say, "Why don't you tell me first, what is your purpose?"
The chief of staff paused for a moment, then looked up. "We hope to make friends with you," he said. "Also, we'd like to know about your upcoming schedule and plans. After all, someone like you... your every decision could potentially influence the course of the world."
"What are your plans?" Li Wei thought for a moment. "I plan to hold a grand gathering on January 7th."
The Secretary of Defense and the Chief of Staff both nodded; they were aware of the matter.
Li Wei was a celebrity, so it was quite normal for him to hold a gathering.
"Then at the rally," Levi continued, "I will announce my existence to the whole world."
The defense minister and chief of staff continued to nod.
Li Wei himself was a superhuman, and he announced it to the world as well.
Wardfa?!
The living room fell silent immediately.
"The whole world?" The Minister of Defense's tone became sharp as a result.
"Mr. Li Wei," the chief of staff's smile vanished, "I think you may not have fully considered the consequences of this matter."
"Stock markets, religions, armies, governments of every country," he said, "when a truly superhuman person appears, the whole world will be changed."
"Excuse my bluntness," he said sincerely, "the world doesn't know you well enough."
"At least wait a little longer," the defense minister said urgently. "Give us some time, and give the world some time."
"Could we postpone it for three months?" the chief of staff asked. "During these three months, we can do our best to meet all your requests."
"Why?" Li Wei asked with interest. "What are you planning to do? What can you possibly accomplish in three months?"
"We have an obligation to understand you," the Defense Minister gritted his teeth, "to assess your impact on the planet and maintain world peace."
"Hearing the US Secretary of Defense talk about upholding world peace," Levi nodded. "I held my tongue. What about you?"
The two remained silent.
"Besides, I'm not some kind of villain," Li Wei continued, "and why are you all so idle? Why do you have to maintain world peace for others?"
As he was speaking, another taskbar popped up in front of him:
[Main Quest 2: Gain the respect and trust of 1000 million people - Completed]
[Current number of users: 1001 million out of 1000 million]
[Main Quest 3: Organize a ceremony watched by over a million people and successfully ascend to godhood during the ceremony]
Number of ceremonies held: 0/1
Li Wei's lips suddenly twitched.
It's finally finished.
With 1000 million believers and 4 attributes of 20, they are on their way from Bronze Knight to Gold Knight, from mortal to god, and now only one step is left.
He's lost interest in whatever they're asking him to do. Three months? He just can't take it anymore.
The defense minister and the chief of staff exchanged a glance, their brows furrowing.
Just then, Kim Ha-eun walked over quickly, squatted down behind Lee Wei's ear, and whispered a few words in his ear.
As she spoke, she frowned and looked at the two of them, a hint of wariness in her eyes.
After listening to Kim Ha-eun's words, Lee Wei suddenly said, "Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube all rejected my live stream application. Did you guys do that?"
Almost all of America's major media outlets and platforms are under the control of the hand behind these two people. As long as that hand doesn't loosen its grip, his ceremony will be very difficult to carry out.
"No, it's not that difficult," Li Wei suddenly thought.
The chief of staff said, "Mr. Li Wei, you are a very successful entrepreneur, and we would like to discuss cooperation with you."
"What's there to cooperate on?" Li Wei shook his head. "You can't give me what I want."
"You might as well bring it up," the chief of staff said. "Even if I can't do it, the whole of America can."
Li Wei smiled but didn't say anything. He wanted to become a god, but could that really be given to him?
Levi leaned back on the sofa. "Give me the green light," he said. "I'm going to be over New York on the 7th anyway."
"More than 800 million people, you can see them just by looking up, and everyone has a cell phone," Li Wei said. "I just don't know if you can lock down the entire city of New York?"
The Minister of Defense already had a picture in his mind:
Above Manhattan, a person hovers beside the spire of the Empire State Building, with millions of faces looking up and cell phones raised below. The world's media will be abuzz on this day.
This would cause the whole of New York to spiral out of control.
"Mr. Levy, Mr. Levy," the White House chief of staff raised his hands, "we are here today to seek cooperation. We are not your enemies, and we can help you."
"Help?" Levi smiled. "Help or a deal?"
The two people sitting opposite him fell silent.
"Since you're all here, I'll be frank," Li Wei continued. "I can be everyone's friend, I can be a friend to some, and I can be a nightmare to some, but don't even think about influencing me."
The White House chief of staff and the secretary of defense both fell silent.
"Well then," Li Wei said after thinking for a moment, "I've been dealing with you for too long, you won't listen to me if I try to talk to you nicely."
"Let the president come to see me."
Upon hearing the context of those words, the chief of staff felt a jolt of unease.
He picked up his phone, whispered an apology, and then entered the garden.
Although Li Wei could hear it, he wasn't particularly interested.
A few minutes later, the chief of staff returned.
"I'm sorry, Mr. Li Wei, for the sake of the President's safety," he said carefully, "he is unable to come in person at the moment. After all, the President is not young and cannot withstand too much turbulence and accidents. However, the President very much wants to talk to you. He would like to connect with you remotely from a safe location. I wonder if you agree?"
"A safe place?" Li Wei smiled. "What do you mean by a safe place?"
