Chapter 685 title forgotten
"You mean the recent improvement in law and order isn't because of these flashy superheroes fighting crime, or because the NYPD is putting in the work, but because the gangs have just disappeared? Ha! Even if I believed Spider-Man suddenly became the only hope for saving the world, I still don't believe the New York gangs would just quit crime on their own!"
"I really appreciate your trust in me, Jonah, that you actually believe Spider-Man could possibly save the world."
Donning his battle suit and sitting atop the Empire State Building, watching the sunset over Midtown High School where only club activities and sports teams remained, Peter Parker leisurely listened to Jonah and several investigative reporters from the Daily Bugle. Reporters had their own methods and approaches to investigating these matters, and the findings of these guys were strikingly consistent: many places that investigative reporters could previously access were now being warned of as dangerous by their informants.
This wasn't outside Peter's investigation. In those areas deemed dangerous, there were indeed many gang massacres believed to have been instigated by the Hand. It seems that the Hand hadn't done anything wrong; most of what they did was eliminate gangs.
If you include Felicia's USB drive, then these guys also wiped out the entire New York drug trafficking network, bought all the drugs and then didn't distribute them. They were practically model citizens, even friendlier than Spider-Man's neighbors.
So here's the question: are the Hand really such obedient little guys?
“I’ll go ask the mayor if there’s any news. You guys should also have a good talk with the NYPD. There are always some sly and dishonest people among these police officers. They must have some kind of collusion with these ninja gangs.”
Jonah gave instructions with completely outdated information, but his words gave Peter some bold ideas. He couldn't help but think of the information Daredevil had given him, much of which came from Kingpin, and Kingpin seemed to know very well what the Hands were up to.
I don't know if Kingpin still intends to cooperate, but I guess he no longer has that idea...
Peter continued listening while analyzing the intelligence he had gathered about the Hand over the past few days. Ironically, Hydra, the Hand's leader, had suffered heavy losses, but the Hand seemed to have been mostly unscathed, except for the deaths of some undead ninjas.
So, fundamentally speaking, what is the Hand's purpose? It's to find a suitable body for the evil god "Beast" they worship to descend into. To be honest, this Beast doesn't have much presence in the comics. Although the corrupted Daredevil is the final villain of the entire Shadowlands event, he doesn't seem to have been strengthened to a very high level...
Peter continued to recall his memories of this unfamiliar comic book event. He didn't remember much about the entire event, except for two things: First, the reason Beast was able to possess Daredevil was because Matt committed the crime of "murder." For other people, even superheroes, killing is something that should be avoided as much as possible, but for Matt, he really had a principle of not killing.
Therefore, violating one's own taboos is one possibility for the beast to descend...
The second one is more interesting. The beast's corruption is not invincible. On the contrary, as long as Iron Fist uses his Iron Fist Power to inject "Qi" into his body, he can effectively suppress the beast's corruption. So, does this mean that Iron Fist actually knows this beast quite well?
Peter thought of this and sent a message to Matt. Soon, the blind lawyer replied: Iron Fist had no idea what the beast was; he had already asked.
"This is really strange. It's clearly a special attack, but there's absolutely no clue... What on earth is this beast?"
Peter muttered to himself, then turned and saw the black cat that had just climbed up and appeared behind him: "Oh, hey, good afternoon."
Felicia, dressed in her battle armor, sighed, then walked over to Peter and asked, "Do you know why I didn't come to find you?"
"why?"
You didn't reply to my message.
After listening, Peter realized what the message was—the one about Felicia choosing a dress. He then looked at Felicia and said, "I think... anything is fine, it's about the same?"
Felicia raised an eyebrow.
"You know what? I didn't intend to cause any trouble, so I only sent you the styles of evening gowns. If you can't choose one, I don't mind taking pictures of yourself wearing them and sending them to you. Whether you explain it to others afterward is not my problem." "Um, the black one, I think, it goes better with your silver hair. A white or red outfit just doesn't seem to match..."
After looking at Peter for a while, Felicia squatted down beside him: "Busy with work?"
“Sometimes, when you know a group of bad guys are on the move, you’re bound to be nervous, especially when you think you’re in charge of it. I’m sure the Hand is up to something, and I can guess what they’re planning, but what about the process? I have absolutely no clue.”
Instead of bothering Peter with phrases like "You know this isn't really your responsibility," Felicia thought for a moment and then asked in return, "You're curious about what they're doing, operating covertly so you don't find any trace of them, while simultaneously cracking down on gangs, curbing drugs, and making sure they're not good people, right?"
"Yes, I'm sure they're plotting something..."
Upon hearing this, Peter looked at Felicia again, a somewhat uncertain guess forming in his mind: "Wait, you know?"
"Of course I don't know. If even heroes don't know, how could I possibly know?"
Peter thought of Kingpin: "That's not necessarily true. Maybe we really have to look at this from a different perspective. What do you think the Hand's purpose is?"
Felicia was somewhat surprised that Peter had actually asked her about it, so she countered, "These ninjas wiped out a lot of gangsters, but they didn't take over any territory, right?"
"Yes."
"Although you monopolized the trade of enhancers from Latin America, you didn't let a single enhancer enter the market, right?"
"Yes."
"So what do you think they might be doing?"
Peter reiterated his previous line of analysis: "Initially, we suspected they wanted to dominate the New York enhancer market; they might have their own unique products, but it seems they don't..."
"Perhaps what you see is just the purpose, but they don't actually have any deeper purpose, or rather, it has nothing to do with their purpose."
Peter looked at Felicia in confusion, unable to understand her point of view for a moment, so Felicia sighed and began to explain.
"Are you cleaning your room so you can experiment with cobwebs and dust?"
"You mean, the Hand's goal is a New York without gangs and drugs? Of course I know that, but why..."
Felicia raised an eyebrow, appreciating Peter's pause.
"why?"
