Chapter 831
My Name is Bob
Chapter 831 My Name is Bob
"I'm tired of complaining about why every evil organization needs to build its base so underground, while superhero headquarters are all in skyscrapers, except for Spider-Man, of course."
Peter, who was leaping into the elevator shaft, even had time to play with a Rubik's Cube. He quickly descended until he saw a closed elevator door, then approached it, pressed himself against the wall next to the door, and with a forceful tug, pulled the entire elevator door open and jumped inside.
Hello? Is anyone there?
The corridor was completely dark, without a single light. Only the echoing sounds told Peter that he was the only guest there. Peter was certain that no one was inside, so he walked straight in and easily found the main power switch, only to discover that it was off.
He began to think about something: if even the main power switch had been turned off, were those people who were hibernating still alive? Had they all starved to death?
After thinking it over carefully, Peter placed his hand on the main switch.
“Good, the spider’s sensor didn’t make a sound, which means it’s safe. The spider says, ‘Let there be light.’”
The switch was turned on, but nothing happened.
"So going to turn on the light is quite reasonable."
Near the main gate is the control room, where Peter can see the status of all the facilities. This Hydra base beneath the Hydra base seems to be the main body of everything. After he turned on all the lights with a Hydra computer in the control room, the computer in front of him suddenly flickered and then Ultron's face appeared.
“Hey, Ultron, it’s nice to meet you. I hope you don’t mind me being here, or perhaps you’ve missed some information.”
Hello, Spider-Man. Your actions here are unfounded. Why are you acting this way?
"Hmm? Of course I'm checking Hydra's legacy. You don't seem to care much about this place."
[All equipment and records have been downloaded. All experimental data from Hydra here has been analyzed. Their experiment has failed. All the subjects' hibernation pods have been without power for over a week, and there is no possibility of survival.]
"Maybe, but I need to try, don't I?"
Hydra installed a self-destruct program inside the base, which has been prevented. Hydra has confirmed a power reboot inside the base.
Peter sensed something was off. This Ultron had stopped Hydra's self-destruct program? Was it helping him? This didn't seem like Legion Ultron?
Peter had no answer immediately. He simply activated the defreezing procedure for the hibernation pods and rushed over. He kicked open the metal door, which was several centimeters thick, and entered the hibernation area. The hibernation pods in the hibernation area were different from what Peter had imagined. They weren't the traditional, human-sized metal pods with observation windows—the kind where people lay down. Inside were rows and rows of solid metal pods, each about a meter wide, two and a half meters long, and a meter high, arranged densely horizontally, looking more like coffins.
Most of the hibernation pods were open, but they reeked of a foul stench. The hibernation pods had indeed been without power for over a week. But more importantly, many people hadn't even begun to hibernate.
This place is more like a morgue than a hibernation pod. Many corpses were simply placed inside the hibernation pods intact. It's likely that the Hydra soldiers already knew that these test subjects were dead, and in order to save electricity, they didn't even run the hibernation pods properly.
When Peter first saw this situation, he even made a ridiculous joke out of helplessness.
"Good news, I guess it'll be a few more years before I see this thing again, until Fallout 4 comes out..."
These corpses had probably been dead for a month or two. Peter used his super-sensory abilities to detect the putrid, fermenting stench, then walked past each hibernation pod, seeing one open pod after another, and inside, a white, swollen corpse of varying degrees. "It's unimaginable," he thought, "if Hydra decides to return someday, how they plan to deal with all these corpses. Are they going to obediently clean up? Or do they not intend to come back at all?"
Just then, Ultron's voice came through Peter's watch.
Spider-Man, Hydra has dispatched a team of Hydra soldiers to infiltrate and eliminate you. Please be careful.
"Where are you now?"
Peter naturally asked the question, and Ultron answered without hesitation: "I'm at the Avengers base, coordinating all Avengers' actions. Thor is on his way. (Correction: Thor is currently fighting the mechanical Avengers.)"
"Alright, I'll capture all those Hydras after I finish watching..."
Peter fell silent. He saw a hibernation pod, which was empty, completely devoid of anything. Peter stared at the freezer-like device, which bore no identification information. Peter asked Avenger Ultron to analyze it: "Who was originally imprisoned in here?"
All information has been deleted and is unavailable.
"You can't recover?"
All data storage devices were physically removed, leaving only the basic operating system; therefore, there is no data remaining.
"Okay... let's assume for now that this thing was empty from the start, oh!"
A head popped out from behind the hibernation pod. It was a white young man who looked to be in his early twenties. He seemed a little unwell and was wearing a blue and white striped hospital gown. He was clinging to the edge of the empty hibernation pod. When he saw Peter, he laughed: "Oh, I know you. You're Spider-Man, right? I've seen you on the news."
"Uh, yes, I'm Spider-Man, and you are..."
"I... oh. I don't know, my mind's still a bit muddled. I think... I came here to participate in medical experiments, to earn some money or something. And then I forgot what happened, what happened to the others? Why are they all dead?"
A test subject who was tricked into coming here? Peter was about to answer when he saw the state of the hibernation pod. Without a doubt, the hibernation program in this hibernation pod was not activated. So, shouldn't he have been awake the whole time?
Peter recalled the description of "1000 times more effective Erkins serum," and suddenly looked at the other person warily before asking, "Okay, do you remember your name?"
“Robert Reynolds, oh, you don’t have to call me that, just call me Bob.”
As Bob spoke, he glanced anxiously at the other hibernation pods: "Why are all the others dead? Am I in some kind of danger? Spider-Man? Can you save me?"
Peter took a deep breath and nodded slowly but firmly.
"Of course, I'll take you out, Bob."
