Chapter 830

Re-excerpt from Madrid

Chapter 830 Return to Madrid
Peter quickly made his way through the Suspension Gate to Madrid. Luckily, he had been there before, otherwise he wouldn't have been able to open the Suspension Gate so directly.

Madrid Hill retains its charm, but if you were to drive along this road at night, it would remind Peter of neighboring Gotham City: the damp and cold environment, the separation between slums and rich areas, and of course, the dazzling neon lights and the oppressive dark sky.

This kind of place seems to be very popular with those evil villains.

He was standing on the top floor of what was probably a casino, looking down at the entire city. The mechanical Avengers hadn't arrived yet.

"Okay, the Mechanical Avengers are on their way to Madrid Slope, and I'm even a step ahead of them. So where is Hydra's secret base?"

As Peter spoke, he spun on his webs on Madrid Hill, searching for any trace of the other party. There was no doubt that the discovery of these Hydra bases must have been made by Ultron through network intrusion and computation. Unlike Avengers Ultron, other Ultron clones didn't have any privacy restrictions.

They can freely search and retrieve vast amounts of information and analyze it.

However, Peter still has some advantages. For example, he diffuses bioelectricity into the air, using it in conjunction with his senses. This gives him a much wider range of perception than simply using air or shadow perception. While it's not quite fifty kilometers, he can clearly sense the movements of everyone within a range of several hundred meters.

Including those panicked guys, those hiding high-tech equipment, and those muttering "Long live Hydra."

"Okay, looks like this is the building. A gentleman with a high-tech pistol rushed in. Hmm... how am I supposed to get in? Looks like I'll have to use Spider-Man's special passage. I absolutely love ventilation ducts, and I hope my anti-Venom suit is the same."

Peter muttered to himself as he crawled through the ventilation duct and saw that these guys, who were probably Hydra soldiers, were running away. They had only grabbed some simple things and left, and there were only seven or eight of them in total.

This isn't right, is it? How can there only be seven or eight people at a Hydra base?

Peter was immediately confused, watching as the van took away all the Hydra soldiers and then quickly followed, only to see the van of Hydra soldiers brazenly enter the airport...

For a moment, Peter wondered if Hydra was playing a trick on him, as they actually had other bases in Madrid. But then his spider-sense went off, and he quickly scanned his surroundings, but the spider-sense's activity remained very weak.

He whirled around and, from almost eye level in the sky, saw Iron Man from the Avengers launch a miniature missile at the Hydra van several kilometers away. The missile was traveling at incredible speed and was already quite close to the van. Peter reacted almost instantly—using his mirror space to move the van and missile away, preventing the missile from exploding and injuring bystanders.

As for the Hydra soldiers inside the vehicle, they can only leave it to fate.

The strange thing was that the mechanical Avenger actually ran away after dealing with the enemy, without any intention of contacting Peter. Peter watched it leave, puzzled, then shook his head and entered the mirror space to check on the van.

Bad news: Not a single person survived.

Good news: They were all Hydra. "So what was Ultron planning to do here? Was it really just to punish evil? Let me see… Hydra has left… What useful data is left on this phone…?"

The mirrored space was safe enough, but unfortunately, Peter had left the nanosuit at S.W.A.L.D. to prevent the nanobots from being hard-controlled. Now he could only use the microcomputer in his watch to analyze it. After reading all the readable information from the communication devices on these Hydra soldiers, he finally understood what had happened at the Hydra base.

The head of this Hydra base was Dr. Koyama, a former member of the Hand who later went to Hydra headquarters for further training. He was the one who completed the restoration of the Erkins Serum and created the superheroes Luke Cage, Mr. Negative, and Cloak & Dagger.

He was transferred here to continue some research, but unfortunately, he messed it up no matter what the research was, which led to him being silenced by Hydra. The entire base was temporarily sealed off, all personnel destroyed important data, and personnel were evacuated, awaiting future use.

Peter left the mirrored space and then slipped into the abandoned Hydra base located beneath a building through the ventilation ducts. He removed the cover from the ventilation ducts and landed lightly inside the base. Seeing that there was no one around, and even the surveillance cameras were completely still and emitting no light, Peter couldn't help but sigh.

"In other words, this is a completely useless Hydra base, and Ultron came here just for that? It doesn't make sense. Maybe it's a smokescreen, or maybe Ultron thinks there's something important here that I need to look for."

He first located the computers and archives within the base. However, he discovered that almost all the files had been burned, and all the computers had been formatted. Not a single useful clue remained.

Peter didn't even know what was left in the base, so he continued exploring. The base wasn't large, but it was very deep. Peter didn't know if digging this deep was even worthwhile.

He soon arrived at several locations resembling operating tables, clearly indicating that human modification experiments were being conducted there, with bloodstains still visible in many places.

In the trash cans there, Peter saw stacks of charred documents that Hydra had burned. Apparently, they just stuffed them in there because they were too lazy and then burned them. Peter carefully rummaged through the ashes and found only a few scattered words that were still legible.

"It looks like research data on experimental subjects. So many... Good heavens, how did they get so many experimental subjects, and none of them have been found missing anywhere in the world? The words here are even readable... a thousand-fold induction effect from Erkins serum, theoretically... okay, the rest is all charcoal. Experimental subject cryopreservation chamber..."

There's also a hibernation pod for experimental subjects? Does that mean there were still experimental subjects alive here when Hydra left?

With that in mind, Peter didn't dare to be negligent and searched the Hydra base again, but found nothing.

Except for a bottomless elevator shaft.
