Chapter 25

Elements

This is a new book of magic and sorcery, titled "Basic Instruction on the Fire Element".

With a large number of magic stones in hand, and since there was still no news about the high-powered microscope these days, and Green hadn't made a decision about the companion insect for the time being, he was unwilling to waste his precious time. So, Green reluctantly began to study elemental magic.

In the Wizarding Continent, no matter how focused a wizard is on other subjects, they will inevitably have some knowledge of the basic elements.

The reason is simple: during a wizard's apprenticeship, the first time one uses mental power to solidify an elemental magic circle in their soul can greatly enhance their mental power, which is an irresistible temptation for any wizard apprentice.

After carefully studying "Basic Teaching of Fire Elements" twice, Green gently put down the book and began to ponder.

"This so-called elemental magic circle is probably the most basic leverage power that wizards possess. It has been simplified to this extent, becoming something akin to art."

Elemental magic circles are divided into two basic areas: runes and magic circles.

In terms of runes, orthodox wizarding books record a total of twenty-six characters. By combining these characters in different ways, one can use magic to communicate with most of the natural elemental forces of the endless world.

Of course, this kind of communication is the most foolish kind, as the magic power consumed is disproportionate to the elemental energy gained from the communication.

However, in addition to the twenty-six regular characters, there are some special runes that exist in nature or in the laboratories of certain wizards.

These runes can communicate with energy attributes that are rare in nature, or even new energy attributes created by the wizard himself, such as the magic used by the wizard Dila on the ship, the Dead Soul Flame.

In the case of a magic circle, countless runes are combined to form a "pattern" or "rule" that can be understood and visualized by a wizard, and finally solidified forever using mental power.

Although the magic circle can be combined into countless different states depending on the wizard's different understanding, no matter how the wizard changes it, there is always one core that will never change, which is a six-pointed star pattern inside the large circle.

This pattern evolved from the wisdom of countless ancient wizards, representing the most powerful and fundamental force that wizards could conceive of using knowledge as a lever to influence the rules of the world.

Countless wizards who wanted to improve magic circles would inevitably add to this pattern to change the structure of elemental magic. For example, the beautiful witch in Grimm's first basic magic education class released fire magic in her third experiment, transforming the original fireball into a firebird.

Rubbing his brow, Green took out a piece of white paper and a quill pen.

To permanently solidify an elemental magic circle on the soul, the first step is to make one's mental power proficient in outlining all the characters. This is a skill that takes time and effort, and different people have different affinity for the elements, so the time required will vary.

But in general, even the most unapproachable wizard could complete this step in a year.

Of course, Green didn't think he would be that stupid.

Following the quill pen, as Green copied the twenty-six characters, his mental energy began to draw them again and again, becoming more and more proficient.

Three days later, Green looked at his progress in astonishment, exclaiming in disbelief, "Could I be a genius in elemental magic? In just three days, my mental power has become completely familiar with the process of writing all the characters!"

Ten days later, after a bout of inexplicable pain, Green, though appearing somewhat listless, exclaimed with immense joy deep within his eyes, "In less than half a month, I've permanently solidified the fire elemental magic array within my soul! I truly do have the talent to cultivate elemental magic!"

Green took a deep breath and silently chanted a spell. The crystal ball floated quietly in front of him, and Green began to observe his condition.

"Mental strength 18, magic power 126~137. As expected, mental strength increased by five points!"

As for magic power, as long as mental strength is improved, magic power will naturally increase gradually through meditation.

Surprised, Green thought for a moment and then chanted the spell over the crystal ball again. After the crystal ball flashed with a dazzling light, it instantly returned to its dull and inconspicuous form.

"Let's test the power of your full-force fireball!"

The power of witchcraft is determined by the spirit.

However, a wizard apprentice can only instantly unleash no more than a quarter of their magical power during normal combat. To unleash higher levels of magic, a lengthy preparation of incantations is required.

Of course, the proportion of this maximum stimulation of mental and magical power will actually decrease as the wizard's magical power increases.

Grimm channeled his magic into the elemental magic circle, and instantly, after a familiar and comforting feeling, a fireball the size of a fist appeared at Grimm's fingertip with a soft "poof".

Uh……

She was indeed much smaller than the witch from before.

With a flick of his finger, Green sent the fireball hurtling towards the crystal ball in mid-air. After a burst of fiery heat, Green waved his hand again, and the crystal ball returned to his grasp.

"Twenty-one degrees? I expended nearly forty points of magic power to gain a fireball attack of twenty-one degrees. That means after activating a quarter of my eighteen points of mental power, I increased the energy intensity by about five times?"

Green was extremely satisfied. From this moment on, Green finally mastered a power that surpassed that of ordinary civilians and even knights.

A simple, deadly spell can grant a wizard apprentice the ability to kill a legendary knight, which is why wizards are the true rulers of this world.

Putting everything else aside, just considering the trial a year from now, Green's chances of surviving are much higher.

With his soul just solidified by the elemental magic circle, Grimm's mental strength increased by five points in an instant, but it also made him somewhat weak. Naturally, Grimm fell into a deep sleep.

After an unknown amount of time, ding...

Green's soul stirred, awakened by the soul connection within the crystal ball. He then saw Varo, the wizard apprentice from the seventh level of Black Tower, calling out: "Hey, Green, come here. My teacher just went out. Oh, and bring some robinfish with you!"

Green sat up abruptly in bed, wide awake.

Can we finally use an advanced microscope?

Green excitedly went to the lab table and picked up all the containers holding the limbs of white mice. After thinking for a moment, Green looked at the frog that was parasitized by horseflies.

This frog had one of its hind legs cut off by Green for preservation. However, due to parasitic snails, the frog has grown three hind legs, making it look like a deformed freak, which is rather disgusting.

This is not evolution. So-called evolution is about giving organisms more powerful abilities and placing them at the top of the food chain.

However, the three legs that the frog had "grown" were actually just like a tumor, useless to the frog and only a hindrance.

The reason for this is that the horseflies inside the frog want to return to the crane's body to reproduce, which naturally requires the frog to "cooperate" so that the crane can easily eat them.

Without much hesitation, Green picked up the deformed frog and its hind leg, which he had once saved, and left his hut.

Upon arriving at the first floor of Black Tower, Green bought some tilapia. Although he didn't know what Varo wanted these tiny fish, no bigger than a finger, for, he figured it was either out of curiosity or to use them as experimental material, since they weren't worth much anyway.

Upon reaching the seventh floor of the Black Tower, Varo walked over and chuckled, "You're in luck. Your mentor happens to be out on some business these days."

He then led Green to the higher levels of the Black Tower.

After being inspected by two giant mechanical golems, Grimm passed through smoothly because he was being led by Varo.

This was Green's first time visiting the area above the seventh floor of the Black Tower, and he couldn't help but look around curiously. However, to Green's disappointment, although the passageway was incredibly spacious, there wasn't a single person in sight.

"Don't wander around. The area above the eighth floor is where the official wizards live. Be careful, or some bad-tempered wizards might just throw you off the building."

Varro warned Green.

"oh."

Green nodded somewhat nervously, and then followed Varo as he climbed up the stairs, one floor at a time.

After climbing seventy or eighty floors, Green was exhausted, covered in sweat and panting heavily, but Varo acted as if nothing had happened, saying, "Just follow me when I go in, don't worry about anything else."

"Um."

Exhausted and on the verge of collapse, Green simply didn't have the strength to say another word.

Varo shook his head: "Honestly, why don't you study bloodline magic? Your body is so weak."

Then Varo opened a door covered with magical restrictions, and Green followed cautiously, not daring to utter a single word.

"Hey, Varo, is this the customer you were talking about?"

Green looked in the direction of the sound and saw a black cat lying lazily on the sofa watching Varo and Green.

Varo chuckled and stepped forward, placing a small bag of Luo Ding fish in front of the black cat: "This is him. It's settled then, five magic stones each, and this is the Luo Ding fish."

Green's forehead creased with annoyance; he had clearly given twenty magic stones.

The black cat slowly stood up, stretched, wiped its face with its paws, and then leisurely picked up the bag full of tilapia and jumped onto the top of a large fish tank.

The fish tank was three meters high and seven or eight meters long. Inside, a dozen or so strange-looking fish swam slowly, their sharp teeth occasionally peeking out from their mouths, which made Green, who was watching from the side, shudder.

The black cat didn't care at all. Instead, it dumped all the tilapia from the bag into the fish tank. Looking at the strange fish frantically eating in the tank, the black cat drooled and said, "Eat up, eat up, hehe, grow bigger..."

Seeing this scene, Green felt strange and awkward no matter how he thought about it.

Only after watching those strange fish devour every last one of the tilapia did the black cat happily say to Varo, "Alright, take the kid with you. I won't tell the old man. Oh, and don't touch anything except the microscope, or the old man will find out."

Varo smiled and said, "Don't worry, unless he doesn't want to live anymore."
