Chapter 10
What do you think?
The scene shifts to the bus that was "saved".
"Yes! He saved the passengers! But what about the car?! It's totaled! The insurance company is probably crying their eyes out! And what about this damn road!"
The camera zooms out to a rescue site where Wu Yanzu is standing... Two deep footprints are left where he is standing, and the surrounding floor is cracked in large areas!
"He doesn't care about the losses! He only cares about whether his damn hair is messed up!"
"We've reviewed the Battle of New York! This Homelander caused more 'collateral damage' than any of those damn alien bastards!"
"He's just a brute... blond bastard! He's a threat to New York!!"
"I, Jameson of the Daily Bugle, will continue to report on his misdeeds!"
Wu Yanzu watched the "passionate speech" with a blank expression.
"Ding! You have gained 105 popularity points."
"Ding! You have gained 98 popularity points."
"Ding! You have gained 112 popularity points."
"..."
"Ha..." he laughed.
"Heizi..." he muttered to himself, "Sure enough, no matter which world you're in, these flies who make a living by talking are all the same."
Wasn't he heavily criticized in his previous life as a movie star?
"Jameson...The Daily Bugle..."
Wu Yanzu's eyes turned cold.
"You're right, buddy. I genuinely don't care about the losses. But the question is, why did you even say it?"
He knew very well that he wasn't that red-underweared cousin from DC.
He doesn't have that invisible "biofield" to envelop everything he comes into contact with.
He saves people entirely through precise control of his strength.
But no matter how well he controls it, the laws of physics still apply. If he catches a falling person at supersonic speed, that person will still be smashed into a pulp, so he can only try to slow himself down as much as possible.
"It seems... establishing my own media company needs to be put on the agenda."
He needs an institution that can control public opinion, an institution that can turn black into white, an institution that can turn 'justice' into a business…
Wu Yanzu's lips curled into a cold smile.
"However, before that..."
……
It's 11 p.m.
Only the editor-in-chief's office on the top floor of the entire building was still brightly lit.
Jonah Jameson, cigar in hand, was yelling into the phone, spitting as he spoke:
"What do you mean 'no evidence'?! Do I need evidence?! I saw it with my own eyes! That megalomaniac in the bodysuit! He was flying in the sky! He was shooting lasers with his eyes! That's the biggest threat of all!!"
"Shut up! You're fired!!"
"What? You're my boss?... Okay, let's talk again tomorrow!"
Jameson angrily hung up the phone, grabbed the whiskey on the table, and took a big gulp.
He still vividly remembers how his newly bought Mercedes was cut into four pieces by a laser in the eyes of the Homelander during the Battle of New York!
And the insurance company won't pay! They say his mother's alien invasion is an unforeseen event!
He felt he needed to teach this "superman" who acted without any method a lesson.
"A bunch of cowards... cowards... This city doesn't need gods! It needs me—Jonathan Jameson—to tell them..."
"Mr. Jameson?"
A voice, seemingly gentle yet chillingly abrupt, rang out behind him.
Jameson's hair stood on end instantly.
He turned around abruptly.
The man who had been making headlines every day lately was sitting in the middle of his office, watching him with a leisurely air.
His handsome face no longer displayed the perfect smile he wore in front of the camera during the day; instead, it bore an almost blank expression.
It's like... watching an insect.
"How...how did you get in?!" Jameson took a step back and bumped into a chair.
"I came in directly, Jonah... Can I call you Jonah?" Wu Yanzu slowly walked forward.
"No, don't come any closer... Don't call me Jonah! You... you monster!" Jameson shouted, his voice trembling with fear. "Security! Security!!"
"They can't hear you, Jonah." Homelander smiled, glancing downstairs with X-ray vision. "The security guards are watching a rerun of Saturday Night Live, and it's very loud."
"What do you think you're doing?!" Jameson grabbed the ashtray on the table. "I'm warning you! If you dare touch me, the whole world will know your true colors tomorrow!"
"The real face?" Homelander laughed, stepped forward, and picked up the Daily Bugle from the table.
"An arrogant tyrant? A devil draped in the Stars and Stripes?"
The man shook his head, his face showing only the disappointment and sadness of someone with formal training.
"Jonah...do you know what? I saved 13 people in that building, I saved the NYPD trembling under a hail of bullets, I saved this city, and you...you're hiding behind a keyboard, using these...to attack me?"
"I'm telling the truth!" Jameson roared, his voice trembling with fear. "You lunatic in costume! You think I'm afraid of you?!"
"Oh?"
Wu Yanzu's figure vanished from the spot in an instant.
Jameson felt a tightness around his neck, and his whole body was lifted up by a tremendous force!
"You...you let me go! You Nazi!!" Jameson screamed in terror, kicking his legs wildly in the air.
"I came here because I wanted to have a good talk with you about what constitutes correct news reporting," Ah Zu said "gently."
"But now it seems you're not the Jonah I knew... I've changed my mind."
"I've decided... to take you to see a bigger world."
"You...you can't...cough...do this..." Jameson's face had turned a deep purplish-red. "You...you're a hero..."
"Now you know I'm a hero?" Wu Yanzu laughed.
"Crack!" He grabbed Jameson and smashed through the French windows on the other side, shooting into the New York night sky!
"Aaaaaaaahh ...
The biting cold wind and the feeling of weightlessness instantly enveloped Jameson!
Wu Yanzu dragged him along, like a rocket, and he soared into the sky!
One thousand meters...
5,000 meters...
Ten thousand meters...
The air here was extremely thin, and Jameson's screams turned into gasps of oxygen, and his eyes quickly became bloodshot.
"Jonah!" Homelander had to shout in his ear because the wind was too strong.
"Look down there!! What do you think of the view, Jonah?!"
"Please...please...can you give me another chance? I have a daughter..." Jameson completely broke down.
What do you think?!
Wu Yanzu revealed a wicked smile.
He let go.
"No--!!!"
Jameson, the star editor of The Daily Bugle, began his freefall.
"Fuck! Fuck! Fuck!!"
He flailed his limbs wildly in the air, but it was all in vain.
The fear of death gripped his heart instantly.
The clouds rushed past him.
Below, the lights of New York City resembled a giant spider web about to engulf him.
"Help...help me..."
He couldn't even make a sound anymore.
