Chapter 58
Dark Space
The next morning.
They did not travel by private jet.
Wu Yanzu carried Jessica directly from New York and took off across the Atlantic.
"Aaaaaahh ...
At 30,000 feet in the air, Jessica clung tightly to Wu Yanzu's neck, hanging on him like a koala.
"Slow down! You're crazy! The wind's going to blow my face off!!"
"Open your eyes, Jessica!" Wu Yanzu's voice remained clear despite the howling wind. "Look at this world! How beautiful it is!"
Jessica managed to open one eye.
Below us stretched an endless sea of clouds, with golden sunlight shining on them, like a burning golden plain.
This is truly beautiful.
If you ignore the fear of falling and being smashed to pieces at any moment.
"I think flying first class is pretty great too!" Jessica shouted.
"You can't get this view in first class."
Wu Yanzu suddenly swooped down and pierced through the clouds.
Foggy London soon appeared beneath their feet.
……
Hillingdon District, Bryce Road abandoned factory.
London's weather was damp, cold, and gloomy, with a lingering musty smell.
"I hate this place." Jessica Jones tightened her trench coat. "It smells like a giant ashtray of stale beer."
"That's right, that's the authentic British style."
"This place doesn't look like a charity gala," Jessica said warily, glancing around. "It looks more like... a hideout for a psychopathic killer. So? Because I drank at work, they tricked me into coming here to murder me?"
"Don't be so pessimistic." Wu Yanzu pointed ahead, "Look there..."
A cement mixer truck ahead was inexplicably floating in the air, slowly flipping over.
"What the hell?" Jessica's eyes widened. "What is this? Magic?"
"Is this also your 'kung fu'?" Jessica asked, pointing at the car.
"No, this is a gravity anomaly." Wu Yanzu shook his head. "A weak point in space. We've found the right place."
"And," he pointed to a building not far away, "there are some interesting friends there."
Several local children were playing a shuttle game. They threw a glass beverage bottle into the stairwell, but instead of falling, the bottle disappeared into mid-air, only to fall back down from above a few seconds later, repeating the cycle.
Meanwhile, Thor's girlfriend, the future female Thor, Jane Foster, is throwing an empty soda can into the stairwell, but the can disappears and doesn't come back.
Just as she was wondering, an elegant cough interrupted her scientific exploration.
Jane and her two interns, Darcy and Ian, turned around at the same time.
Then, their jaws dropped.
"My...God..." Darcy covered her mouth and nose with both hands, looking incredulous. She pinched Jane's arm hard. "Jane! Jane! Look! Who's that?!"
"Ugh—!" Jane winced in pain. "You're... Homelander?!"
"And Queen Jones?!" Jane's male intern, Ian, stared wide-eyed.
Wu Yanzu walked over slowly with a friendly, official smile on his face.
Jessica Jones followed behind him with an indifferent expression, like a dutiful bodyguard.
"Mr. Homelander?!" Darcy had already entered fangirl mode and rushed over, but Jessica stopped her with her hand.
"Keep your distance, miss," Jessica said coldly.
"It's alright, Your Majesty." Wu Yanzu waved his hand and winked at Darcy. "You are... Miss Darcy Lewis? And this one, the renowned astrophysicist, Dr. Jane Foster?"
"You know me?!" Darcy was so excited he almost fainted. "Homelander knows me! I'm going to tweet about it! Oh my god!"
"I've heard Saul mention you before, and I'm very happy to meet you."
Jane Foster, having seen countless alien princes like Thor, possessed considerable composure, but even she was surprised to see Earth's most popular superhero.
"Mr. Starr... what are you doing here?" Jane asked, puzzled. "This isn't... well, America."
"Wought's business is global, Doctor." Wu Yanzu gestured around. "Our satellites have detected anomalies here, and I think it's necessary to come and take a look."
He walked up to Jane, looked at the erratic instrument in her hand, and asked, "Doctor, what did you find?"
"This is very unusual." Jane looked at the readings in her hand, her brow furrowed. "The readings are getting stronger. I have to go check it out..."
"Excuse me, Mr. Starr, I must excuse myself." The scientist's instincts overwhelmed his curiosity about the superhero.
Just as Jian was about to take a step, Wu Yanzu suddenly reached out and stopped her.
"It looks dangerous there." His voice turned serious and concerned. "This unknown energy field... nobody knows what might happen."
Then he turned to look at Jessica.
Jessica.
"What are you doing?" Jessica was throwing all sorts of trash into the manhole and then watching it fall from the sky with great interest.
"Dr. Foster is just an ordinary person. Since we've met, it must be fate. You go in with her and protect her."
"Huh?" Jessica pointed at herself. "Do I look like a bodyguard?"
"You are a hero," Wu Yanzu said in a low voice, "but there's something strange about this place. If there are any alien monsters inside... you know what to do."
Jessica rolled her eyes, but still walked over to Jane's side.
"Let's go, Doctor." Jessica shrugged. "Since the boss has spoken, I'll protect you."
Jane looked at Wu Yanzu gratefully: "Thank you, my countryman."
"Go ahead," Wu Yanzu said with a smile, but his eyes held a deep, unfathomable look. "Be careful."
Jane carried the equipment, with Jessica following behind her, and the two figures gradually disappeared into the building.
Darcy leaned closer, looking at Wu Yanzu with a lovesick expression: "Um... Mr. Homelander, can I take a picture with you? Or... could you sign my autograph? On my... uh, this jacket?"
Wu Yanzu looked down at the voluptuous young fangirl and gave her a business-like smile.
"Of course, sweetheart."
……
Just as Jane and Jessica walked into a dimly lit corridor.
A powerful suction force suddenly erupted!
"Ah—!" Jane only had time to let out a short scream before she was swept into the invisible vortex!
"simple!!"
Jessica reacted extremely quickly. Without the slightest hesitation, she instinctively rushed forward and grabbed Jane's arm!
"Got it! Don't let go!!" Jessica roared, her feet carving two deep furrows in the ground.
But that force... was too great; it was the collapse of space itself.
"Fuck—!!!"
Jessica felt everything go black before her eyes, and she and Jane Foster were instantly sucked into that all-consuming maw!
