Chapter 73

Cundi and Jieyin

Chapter 73 Cundi and Jieyin

The man was tall and thin, with his hair tied in two buns. His face was gaunt, but his eyes were exceptionally bright, with an indescribable clarity, as innocent as a baby's and as radiant as a child's.

Although the tall, thin Taoist priest wore his hair in a topknot, his clothing was quite peculiar, resembling a large red kasaya, which was exactly the Buddhist robe that Guang Chengzi had seen in his previous life.

As for the Taoist who was curiously observing the millions of cultivators, his face was sallow and his lips were bitter, as if he had a bitter fruit in his mouth that would never fade, and the bitter taste that the diner was tasting.

Just looking at this person, Guang Chengzi couldn't help but feel a wave of sorrow rising in his heart, as if all the beauty in the world had vanished, leaving only a desolate atmosphere.

The visitors must be none other than the Daoist Zhunti and the Daoist Jieyin!

Seeing Guang Chengzi staring blankly at them without saying a word, Zhunti Daoist was taken aback at first, then suddenly realized that the other party did not recognize his two fellow disciples, so he laughed and said, "It was my rudeness that I did not introduce myself. I am Zhunti Daoist, and this person is my senior brother, Jieyin Daoist. In principle, you should call us Uncle-Master."

Guang Chengzi naturally understood this principle, but he couldn't show that he understood it very well. After all, how could a normal person not be surprised to hear that they suddenly had a senior uncle?

So Guang Chengzi frowned and feigned surprise, saying, "I didn't know that Uncle Zhunti was also a mortal in Zixiao Palace. It has been quite impolite of us to meet you here."

It was also because he had several treasures to suppress the evil spirits, and these two people were also wary of Yuanshi Tianzun and dared not offend him, and at the same time, they had no ill intentions, which allowed him to get through the situation.

Otherwise, if an ordinary person were to put on an act in front of these two, they would be courting death.

Even when Guang Chengzi was just born, he had already mastered the supernatural ability of mind reading without a teacher. Those who had not yet become immortals were no different from transparent beings in his presence.

Whatever thoughts or emotions arise in one's mind, Guang Chengzi can quickly capture them, so lying to him is a death sentence.

If even Guang Chengzi, a newly ascended immortal, could achieve such power, then these Great Luo Golden Immortals would naturally possess even greater supernatural abilities.

Daoist Zhunti, unsuspecting, laughed and said, "This matter has nothing to do with you. It was just that we two were curious, so we made a hand seal to hide ourselves. In fact, we were the ones who were rude first. There's no need to say more."

The guide, having regained his senses, nodded slightly and said, "Indeed, why did you come from the bitterly cold western lands instead of enjoying blessings on Mount Kunlun?"

The Guide Daoist spoke in such cold words that an ordinary person would have assumed he was trying to expel someone. But that was just his nature, and what he said was merely a simple question.

The birth of their two Western gods was also quite rare.

They were born at the very beginning of time, but at that time one was a pure bamboo and the other a Bodhi tree. Even though they were born with intelligence, they could not speak and could only quietly wait for the time to take human form.

Both the Pure Bamboo and the Bodhi Tree are among the ten supreme innate spiritual roots of the primordial world, incomparable to ordinary supreme spiritual roots.

The name "Qingjing Bamboo" should more accurately be "Liugen Qingjing Bamboo," where "six roots" refers to sight, hearing, smell, taste, touch, and consciousness.

The six senses are purified, which means closing them off. If these six senses are completely closed off, even a great immortal would find it difficult to see, hear, smell, taste, or feel anything, and would not even be able to think at all.

When one is unable to think, living is almost the same as being dead, which is why the Six Roots Pure Bamboo is an extremely rare and lethal spiritual root.

The Bodhi tree, needless to say, embodies the metal element of the West. The West is associated with metal, and being in the Western world is like having metal upon metal. Whether it is Geng metal or Xin metal, both are the metal represented by the Bodhi tree, making it even more decisive and ruthless.

However, these two exceptionally powerful spiritual roots could only tremble and hide inside Mount Sumeru when they were born.

The reason is nothing more than that there is an even more terrifying god on Mount Sumeru, namely the infamous Demon Ancestor Luo!

Compared to Luo, even the Yellow Plum Tree, the number one spiritual root in the primordial world, is trash, let alone the others.

In other words, the Six Roots of Purity Bamboo, in turn, applies the Six Roots of Purity to itself, causing these two spiritual roots to enter a brief state of closed death.

Only the dead make no sound and give no trace of life.

Furthermore, Rahu didn't think anyone would dare to act recklessly on his Mount Sumeru, and in this darkness, he was actually deceived.

Unfortunately, after their birth, what they were left with was a Mount Sumeru in its most desolate state and a Western world on the verge of destruction.

Faced with such a situation, anyone else would probably have left long ago, not to mention that both of them were manifestations of the Ten Great Innate Spiritual Roots, born with invincible luck.

Wherever they go, it becomes a blessed land. Even a wild mountain becomes sacred. Moreover, with their superior strength, seizing one or two caves is nothing.

However, the two of them did not leave. Instead, they quietly began to govern the West. It was through their efforts that the West was able to temporarily stabilize its vitality.

Otherwise, instead of all spirits rushing eastward, they would have died directly in the west.

When faced with the choice of others to leave, Zhunti Daoren and Jieyin Daoren did not make any judgments, after all, their choice to save the West was their own business and had nothing to do with others.

They are very happy if someone is willing to help, and they also offer their blessings if someone only wants to mind their own business.

Most people only care about themselves and few are willing to lend a helping hand. They have only seen this one in so many years, so they are naturally very curious.

Moreover, this person is not some lowly cultivator who can't survive. He has the backing of the Primordial Heavenly Venerable and is the master of one of the Thirty-Six Grotto-Heavens. With such a background, why would he come to their West to suffer? This is what they can't understand.

When faced with the questions from the Guide, Guang Chengzi appeared to be half-believing, clearly not entirely trusting them.

"This—it concerns my private affairs, so please forgive me, Uncle-Master, for not being able to disclose it to you," Guang Chengzi said with a slight hesitation.

The guide wasn't angry at all; he simply nodded and continued to observe the cultivators.

Compared to the coldness of the Guide Daoist, the Zhunti Daoist appeared quite lively.

Not only did he chat and laugh with Guang Chengzi without any airs, but he would also sometimes offer some pointers on cultivation, from which Guang Chengzi benefited greatly, and he even shared many theories.

It contains many accounts of Buddhas, Bodhisattvas, and Arhats that we will only see later. Although it is somewhat crude, it is more realistic and possesses greater power.

After all, this person will be the future leader of the Western Religion. He must be the most powerful in the primordial world when it comes to the Buddha's teachings. Even if you add up eight hundred Buddhas and seven thousand Bodhisattvas in turn, they would still be no match for these two in terms of the Buddha's teachings.

Rather than saying that these Buddhist teachings are somewhat crude and simplistic, it is more accurate to say that they are the true teachings of the Buddha, without any added influence of acquired desires or any attempt to intimidate non-believers; they contain only the simplest and purest truths.

Guang Chengzi even saw in these Buddhist teachings a principle that was similar to, yet completely different from, Hongjun's path to immortality.

Clearly, these two Western religious leaders have also begun to forge their own paths. Just as Hongjun improved the way of Pangu creating the world, these two have also begun to improve the way of Hongjun becoming an immortal.

This path should be called the Western Path to Buddhahood.

Zhunti Daoren was very open with Guangchengzi, though not completely revealing everything, but it was enough for him.

So when Guang Chengzi wanted to know what had happened in Zixiao Palace, Zhunti Daoist did not hesitate at all and said, "When Hongjun Daozu was preaching here, he accepted six disciples, and thus established the order of seniority. That is why I call Yuanshi 'Senior Brother' and Nuwa 'Senior Sister'."

Whether it was fate or not, during the first sermon, there were six prayer cushions under the Dao Ancestor's seat. The Three Pure Ones, as expected, sat on the first three cushions. Their positions did not violate the ethical and moral order. The first was the Taiqing Senior Brother, the second was the Yuqing Senior Brother, and the third was the Shangqing Senior Brother.

Then, Senior Sister Nuwa sat on the fourth seat. With Junior Brother Fuxi protecting her, it was only natural. Then, Junior Brother Hongyun and Junior Brother Kunpeng sat on the last two seats. These two were among the fastest people in the prehistoric world, so it was only right that they sat there.

Seeing that the six prayer cushions were occupied, the other fellow Daoists had no choice but to find a quiet place to sit down. Unfortunately, the two of us arrived a little late, and by the time the sermon was about to begin, the place was already packed with people. I felt sad and couldn't help but cry out. My senior brother, the Daoist who was guiding us, was also very sad.

Fortunately, Fellow Daoist Hongyun took pity on me and was willing to give up his seat. Although I was reluctant to accept it, I could not bear to wait for the Great Dao ahead, so I decided to be the bad guy and let Senior Brother Jieyin Daoist go forward and sit down first.

I had only intended to take a seat behind my senior brother, but unexpectedly, the Twelve Ancestral Witches spoke up to help, forcing Fellow Daoist Kunpeng to step down. I wanted to say a few words to mediate, but before I could even stand up, the Dao Ancestor appeared.

Seeing me standing, the Dao Ancestor asked, "I am about to expound on the Great Dao, why are you standing? Why not choose a seat?" I honestly replied, "This seat belongs to Fellow Daoist Kunpeng, it has nothing to do with me. I stood up to invite Fellow Daoist Kunpeng to sit down. I have offended the Dao Ancestor, please forgive me."

Fortunately, Senior Brother Yuanshi spoke up to help, and Senior Sister Nuwa also pleaded for mercy, so the Dao Ancestor did not blame us. He simply let me sit down and began to explain the Great Dao. I was uneasy and originally planned to return the seat to Fellow Daoist Kunpeng during the second lecture.

Unexpectedly, right after the Dao Ancestor finished his sermon, he declared that the positions were now fixed and could not be changed. I had no choice but to accept them. After the second sermon, the Dao Ancestor accepted the six of us according to these positions. So, you can simply address me as Uncle-Master Zhunti.

Zhunti Daoist did not hide anything and told all the facts in a very fair and objective manner. Guang Chengzi thought about it and felt that Zhunti Daoist was not lying.

The reason is simple: he is the personal disciple of Yuanshi Tianzun, and his only disciple in the present day. If he were to ask a question, Yuanshi Tianzun would have no choice but to answer.

The master and disciple would definitely speak privately and without any concealment, so lying now would only make him lose face. It would be better to just say it directly, which would look better.

Seeing that Guang Chengzi believed him, Zhunti Daoist asked, "By the way, nephew, what important business do you have in the West? If you ran away secretly, you should return to Kunlun Mountain as soon as possible, otherwise, if Senior Brother Yuanshi gets angry, we will not be able to explain ourselves."

Guang Chengzi naturally had to play the role of a dutiful junior disciple at this time. Upon hearing this, he honestly replied, "When my master asks a question, I dare not not answer. In fact, I came here to pursue the path of Taiyi."

The junior disciple had previously witnessed his junior sister Wudang break through her cultivation realm in front of everyone and become a Taiyi Golden Immortal. He was filled with envy, so he thought of emulating her and made a vow to follow her example.

"Junior Sister Wudang is vowing to reach the Nine-Refined Golden Immortal realm. I, her junior brother, know I lack such a foundation, so I thought I'd come to offer a glimmer of hope to the West, hoping to challenge their cultivation levels. I'm afraid my two senior uncles will find this laughable."

However, Zhunti Daoist did not laugh at all after hearing this. Instead, he said seriously, "Nephew, if you have such thoughts, your future achievements will be limitless. You should know that although suffering does not represent everything, it does represent the path."

You have borne burdens for the West that you should not have borne, and the West will surely repay you accordingly in the future. This is what is called retribution; you reap what you sow.

The Guide Daoist no longer looked at the many cultivators, but turned to look at Guang Chengzi, and a look of surprise seemed to appear in his eyes.

He hadn't expected this pampered person to have such great perseverance; he had been wrong.

Guang Chengzi wasn't overly modest, knowing that excessive modesty was arrogance, so he readily agreed. Then he said, "I do have an idea, but I'm afraid it might be too simple and invite ridicule from my two senior uncles, so I dare not say it."

After hearing this, Daoist Zhunti laughed and said, "Speak freely about whatever you have in mind. As the saying goes, 'Why not use it if you don't want to?' Now that we are here, if you don't ask, you won't be able to ask even if you want to after we leave."

He was a witty and humorous person, comparing himself to a tool and urging Guang Chengzi to use him as soon as possible. This made him more likable than those arrogant people who always talked about who they were.

Guang Chengzi was initially quite nervous upon seeing these two, after all, they were the infamous shameless duo, and who knew if they would be overjoyed at the sight of the treasure and turn around to kill him.

However, after this brief encounter, Guang Chengzi realized that his previous thoughts were biased.

For whom is this so-called shamelessness? The things these two took were not simply for their own benefit; everything they took was intended to replenish the West's resources.

Such people deserve the respect of even their enemies, for they never abandoned the homeland that nurtured them.
