Chapter 11
The Plan to Sell the Formula
Chapter 11 The Plan to Sell the Formula
Only then did he put the cream into his mouth.
Suddenly, Mia's expression changed, and her eyes became bright and sparkling.
She had never eaten such a delicious dessert before. Although it didn't look that pretty, the taste was so irresistible that she couldn't control her expression. Her pink lips trembled slightly as she savored the flavor in her mouth.
"Hehe." Alphonse laughed. Judging from their expressions, he could tell how they were reacting. For him, the handmade cream was a bit too rich, but for those who had never tried it before, the impact of this new thing was unparalleled.
"Alphonse, did you really do this?" Mrs. Mary asked in surprise, still somewhat incredulous.
"Yes." Alphonse nodded in affirmation.
"How do you know how to make this dessert?" Mia asked, voicing her doubts. She was almost certain that this was a completely new dessert; at least, she had never seen it before or heard of it.
"Didn't I tell you? The amazing bard I met was the one who taught me," Alphonse said, spouting nonsense once again.
Lady Mary believed her beloved son's words without question, but Mia was different. She knew exactly what kind of person Alphonse was, unlike Lady Mary who had a filter on her.
I don't believe you for a second!
In this remote and impoverished place, how could such a magical bard possibly come to teach you martial arts and how to make such delicious desserts?
What do I want from you? Am I stupid enough to be greedy for you?
Mia's doubts grew stronger. How could Alphonse, a dissolute man, suddenly become such a different person?
When did it start?
He won today's duel in a particularly strange way, and it seems he has never been seen practicing martial arts.
Perhaps we can get some clues from the tavern owner.
In front of your wife, refrain from raising any objections for the time being.
"Do you think this cream can be sold for money?" Alphonse asked with great interest.
"It should be possible," Mrs. Mary nodded slowly.
"The quantity is too small." Mia had already seen the state of the earthenware pot and began to ponder what kind of changes such a brand-new dessert as cream could bring to Coldwind Territory.
Nobles love sweets; no one can resist such a delicacy. If it could be mass-produced, cream could become a specialty of the Coldwind Territory.
"Of course, it's not just about selling that much; I mean, selling the formula," Alphonse revealed his intention.
"Why sell such a good recipe?" Mrs. Mary asked, bewildered.
Mia shared the same idea: "We can hire our people and develop the butter industry."
Alphonse shook his head. "Although the ingredients for cream are simple, the production process is quite troublesome. Most importantly, we cannot guarantee that our people will not leak the recipe. Therefore, it would be better to sell it to the Chamber of Commerce and make some money."
After hearing this, both Mrs. Mary and Mia began to think.
Indeed, there are such concerns.
"Since you say that the recipe for this cream was taught to you by that magical bard, how can you guarantee that he won't teach it to others?" Mia asked again.
"Well," Alphonse felt deeply that once you tell one lie, you have to tell more lies to cover it up. He decided to find an excuse to gloss over the matter.
"He told me it was a secret recipe that he wouldn't tell just anyone. He only told me because we got along well. And he's probably already crossed the border into another country."
"He went to the Forest Country?" Mia's delicate eyebrows furrowed slightly.
Alphonse nodded repeatedly.
That's right! You're absolutely right! From now on, you can blame any problems on that bard!
Coldwind Territory is near the border. Beyond the border lies a continuous mountain range, which serves as a natural barrier for the Kingdom of Bastian.
On the other side of the mountains lies the land of Bozak, the kingdom of orcs.
It's more accurate to call it a nation than a collection of barbaric tribes. It's said that the orcs there still maintain ancient customs, worship nature, and believe in barbarian gods. Tribal conflicts are constant, making it far less civilized than the Kingdom of Bastien.
Because of its numerous mountains and forests, the Kingdom of Bozak is also known as the Kingdom of Forests.
"What's he going there for?" Mia was still puzzled. A bard couldn't possibly be traveling all the way to the Forest Kingdom, could he? The people there don't have a very good impression of humans. In the eyes of the orcs, humans are all cunning liars.
"How would I know? He didn't tell me." Alphonse dismissed the question, saying there was no way he could tell; the person was completely fictitious.
"If you have the chance to meet them again, you must thank them properly," Mrs. Mary instructed.
"Mmm-hmm," Alphonse readily agreed.
"So when are you planning to sell the butter recipe?" Mrs. Mary asked.
"Tomorrow morning, it's too late today," Alphonse replied.
Even if we rode a horse to the nearby city of Ryan, it would take most of the day, so that's definitely not possible today.
"Alright, Mia will go with you tomorrow, just in case you get scammed." Mrs. Mary turned to look at Mia. "Mia, is that alright?"
"But Madam, you also need someone to guard you here."
Mia understood that Alphonse was not very strong, and that the cream recipe was very important to the Baron's mansion, but as Lady Mary's knight, she dared not leave without permission while the lady's condition was still not improving.
The main problem is that the Coldwind Pass is not secure enough.
"Don't worry, the most important person in Coldwind Territory right now is Alphonse. As long as he's alright, who would do anything to an old woman like me? Tomorrow, just tell Captain Simon to have his wife come to the castle to keep me company."
"Alright then." Mia had no choice but to comply. Alphonse couldn't be allowed to get into trouble; if anything happened to him, Lady Mary would be heartbroken.
Lady Mary then looked at Alphonse, "Then you should get some rest tonight and not go out drinking."
"Okay, I won't drink anymore." Alphonse agreed very readily. What's so great about the wine in this world? He didn't like drinking in his previous life either. He'd rather spend that time cultivating his internal energy.
Hearing her son's promise, Lady Mary was deeply gratified. Her son had finally grown up and was thinking about the territory. She did not want to become a burden to her son, so she had to get better quickly and at least live to see her son get married and have children.
Alphonse had originally planned to ask Captain Simon to send a few trusted soldiers to accompany him into the city, but now that Mia was there to protect him, it would be even better.
Back in his room, Alphonse found a clean handkerchief, sealed the mouth of the jar, and tied it tightly with silk rope to prevent dust from falling in.
Only then was the small earthenware jar carefully hidden in the cupboard.
After thinking for a moment, Alphonse put on his coat and walked out of the castle.
