Chapter 37

What's Been Coming Has Finally Arrived

Chapter 37 What's Been Coming Has Finally Arrived

Alphonse understood the subtext in Amelanda's words.

Her father was a nobleman with a nominal title but no real land.

So, did he take the initiative to strike up a conversation because he had his eye on the Baroness's position?

Don't you know that Coldwind Territory is very barren?

However, perhaps she doesn't care.

Noble titles are not hereditary. For a merchant's daughter to marry a nobleman who owns land is considered a great stroke of luck.

But Alphonse never considered using marriage to obtain financial assistance.

"Oh, and then?"

These words made Amelanda's smile freeze for a moment, but only for a second, before she regained her sweet smile.

"I wonder if I am fortunate enough to receive your invitation to the upcoming ball, Your Excellency. I sincerely hope to dance with you."

That's a very straightforward statement.

Alphonse wouldn't mind dancing with the girl who had mustered the courage to approach him, even if she had ulterior motives. After all, it wasn't an unreasonable request. The problem was, he couldn't do it.

"I can't dance."

It wasn't a lie; the original owner of this body hadn't formally studied either, and he was well aware of his own limitations, never daring to extend an invitation to a noble lady.

On such occasions, he would quietly drink at the table, gazing enviously at the crowd on the dance floor.

When he was drunk, he had experience practicing with the air, and he clumsily walked around a few times following the dance steps he had watched.

If he were to actually step on the field, he would probably stomp on Amelanda's feet until they were swollen.

It's better not to embarrass myself by showing off.

Amelanda was still smiling sweetly, but her big eyes were full of embarrassment and awkwardness.

"I'm so sorry, I disturbed you. I hope you have a pleasant evening, Baron."

After saying this, Amelanda finally couldn't hold back and hurriedly ran away.

Alphonse didn't care; she probably hated herself to death inside.

I thought that after getting rid of Emeranda, I could finally have some peace and quiet, but little did I expect that only a short while later...

Feren then gathered over with several noble young men.

These people were still known by their names in the memories of the original owner; they were all spoiled brats led by Feren.

However, tonight Alphonse became the center of attention, stealing the spotlight from his master, Feren.

The noblemen repeatedly toasted Alphonse, ostensibly to congratulate him on inheriting the title.

Alphonse welcomes everyone; he'll drink if you offer him a toast.

They were determined to see what Felix was really up to.

He was too enthusiastic and too attentive.

As soon as the wine entered his stomach, he used his inner energy to force it out through his fingertips behind his back.

Let alone wine, even a much stronger spirit like baijiu, Alphonse can drink a thousand cups without getting drunk.

Before long, the young noblemen surrounding them were blushing and their words were increasingly unrestrained.

Alphonse didn't want to leave a trace, so he secretly channeled his inner energy and pressed down, his face instantly turning as red as Guan Yu's, looking like he was drunk.

Ferren snapped his fingers, and a servant immediately came over with a bottle to refill the wine.

Alphonse's wine glass was naturally filled to more than half full.

As soon as the bright red wine entered his mouth, Alphonse sensed something was wrong; there was a very subtle off-flavor that was almost imperceptible unless you tasted it carefully.

Unlike the hallucinogenic drug I smelled when I first transmigrated, this was a different kind of drug.

As expected, Faerun harbored evil intentions; his true colors have now been revealed!

The internal energy within his body was boiling over, converging towards his esophagus and stomach.

The Innate Formless Divine Skill is most vulnerable to the invasion of external objects into the body, so how could it tolerate this wine containing medicinal liquid entering the body?

The true energy simply circulated once, and Alphonse didn't even feel anything unusual before returning to normal.

But, we still have to pretend.

Alphonse made a decision in a flash.

It's impossible for Feren to poison himself in front of everyone, especially since the noble young masters around him also drank that wine. If I'm not mistaken, it should be a sleeping potion.

Just a few minutes later, several people were seen staggering and unable to stand steadily.

Alphonse also staggered, bracing himself on the table with one hand, striking a pose as he shook his head blankly, as if trying to drive the drunkenness out of his head.

Ferren swiftly helped Alphonse up, his smile widening. "Someone come here!"

Immediately, a servant ran forward.

"Baron Tartarus is drunk; escort him to his room to rest," Faerûn instructed his servants.

Alphonse leaned almost entirely on the attendant, letting him support him as they walked out of the banquet hall through a side door.

However, he secretly memorized the route he was traveling.

Upon arriving at the guest room, the attendant carefully helped Alphonse off his coat with some difficulty and placed it aside.

He then lifted the blankets from the bed, placed Alphonse on the bed, took off his riding boots, and covered him with a blanket.

He then picked up his coat and hung it on the coat rack in the corner of the room.

After everything was arranged, he went out and closed the door.

Throughout the entire process, he did not do anything special; he simply fulfilled the duties of a servant.

Alphonse lay in the soft silk quilt, filled with doubt.

Why did Ferren want to seduce him?

I heard faint sounds coming from afar, like a door opening and closing, and more than once.

This row is all guest rooms; they must have brought over those "drunk" young noblemen as well.

There was no sound from the next room; it seemed to be empty.

Soon, a quiet silence descended.

Only the candlelight on the silver candlestick flickered gently in the room.

Alphonse thought to himself that Feren wouldn't have drugged him for no reason; there must be other plans, and there would definitely be follow-up actions.

Although I felt annoyed, I could only wait quietly.

After a while, the sound of light footsteps reached my ears, and they were getting close to the door.

coming!

Alphonse quickly closed his eyes.

With a "click," the door was pushed open slightly, and a person cautiously slipped into the guest room, then quietly closed the door behind them.

Alphonse quietly opened his eyes a crack.

It was Amelanda who entered the guest room.

"Baron, Baron," Amelanda called softly twice.

Seeing that Alphonse was still fast asleep on the bed, Amelanda breathed a sigh of relief and placed the two items she was clutching tightly in her hands on the round table beside her.

Alphonse peeked again at the two things that Amelanda had put down.

One is a small, round, flat brown bottle, about the size of a billiard ball. It appears to be made of mineral and has unusual patterns. The bottle mouth is edged with a metal ring.

The other one was a small incense burner, only slightly different in shape from the Alphonse one.

Alphonse was filled with doubts. Why was it that after Ferdinand captivated him, it was Ameranda who came instead?

What is the relationship between them?

A thought flashed through my mind: Could it be that she wanted to...?
