Chapter 77
The Little Boy's Origins
Chapter 77 The Little Boy's Origins
Alphonse simply left it to the queen ant to ponder.
Deep down, I really hope that the queen ant can undergo some changes, perhaps even evolving into a new form.
Ultimately, it is the first summoned beast with its own intelligence, unlike the shadow soldiers formed from necromantic energy.
People who haven't played Pokémon would find it hard to understand this mindset, nor would they understand the joy of Pokémon evolving.
In my past memories, there was a game similar to Pokémon, but not made by Nintendo. The protagonist started as a sleazy-looking blue slime, which eventually transformed into a very powerful and cool Pokémon!
Alphonse left the anthill and reached the mountainside, only to find that his telepathic connection with the queen ant had been severed.
It seems that telepathy still has distance limitations, but with the soul contract, it is still possible to roughly know the location of the queen ant.
It's better than nothing, meaning that in the future, we won't need to go into the cave to find it; we can contact it directly from the mountain.
Back in the castle, Alphonse went to check on the little wizard boy.
The maid has already said that he hasn't woken up yet.
But when Alphonse entered the room, his keen hearing alerted him to the slight erratic breathing of the little boy.
Is he pretending to be asleep?
Four hours had already passed, and the seals on his acupoints had been lifted on their own, so it was reasonable for him to wake up.
With such a deep wound on his back, and no anesthesia in the world, how could he possibly sleep soundly?
"You're awake, aren't you? Stop pretending, get up." Alphonse exposed the little boy's pretense without hesitation.
The little boy obediently got up, sat on the bed, hugged the blanket, looked at Alphonse, and smiled somewhat shyly.
He is indeed quite handsome, almost like a girl.
With just that slight smile, she gave off a shy and timid feeling.
"Big brother, did you save me? Thank you, where am I?"
"Coldwind Territory, my territory," Alphonse replied casually, a mesmerizing light shimmering in his eyes.
With improved internal strength, one can confuse a person's mind without needing to use language.
There's no need to waste time arguing with him; just use the Soul-Capturing Technique—it's quick and easy.
Once you've got him under your control, he'll have to answer any question honestly.
Unexpectedly, the Soul-Seizing Technique, which had always achieved remarkable feats, encountered an unexpected problem this time.
A faint light flickered on the little boy's chest.
A delicate platinum chain ran from his fair neck to his chest.
The little boy was still lucid and blinked in surprise.
She looked at Alphonse with a hint of suspicion, her hands protectively crossed over her chest. "Big brother, are you planning to do something bad to me?"
"How could that be? You're overthinking it." Alphonse remained outwardly calm, but his heart was in turmoil.
The necklace this child is wearing is definitely a magical item; it can actually ward off the bewitching spell.
Could it be like the Xuanmu hairpin from my previous life, capable of enhancing one's willpower?
Such items might actually exist; special materials can be used to create items with unique effects.
If the Soul-Capturing Technique doesn't work, then I can only ask him normally.
Alphonse sighed inwardly and softened his tone.
"What's your name? What are you doing in that forest in the middle of the night?"
The little boy fluttered his long eyelashes and answered almost without thinking, "My name is Midio Cinbios, and I am a magic apprentice. For some reason, I got lost in that forest. Thanks to you for saving me, otherwise I would have died miserably under the clutches of monsters."
"What's the reason?" Alphonse pressed.
Midio scratched his head awkwardly and smiled shyly, "When I was cleaning up the teacher's lab, I accidentally triggered a random teleportation scroll and that's how I got here."
Judging from his expression, he didn't seem to be faking it.
"What's your teacher's name? Where's his lab?" Alphonse asked again.
"My teacher's name is Ningbat Lasia. He's not a famous magician, just a hermit. His laboratory is, of course, in our secluded magic tower."
"Where is your secluded magic tower located?"
"I don't know where that is either. I've lived in the magic tower since I was little and haven't had much contact with people from the outside world. I just know there's a village nearby. My teacher said that I can't run around before I officially become a magician." Midio lowered his head and pointed at his finger in frustration.
Alphonse thought to himself that, according to what he said, he was just an unlucky guy who had accidentally triggered his teacher's magic scroll.
But this "accident" needs to be questioned.
Mischievous kids always find excuses for their mistakes; it's normal for kids his age to be a little naughty.
Are you from our country?
Alphonse was still cautious in his questioning, not specifying which country it was.
"Yes, my teacher taught me that I am a citizen of the Kingdom of Bastian," Midio replied, looking up at Alphonse earnestly.
After saying that, Midio muttered with a bitter face, "I don't even know where Teacher's magic tower is. Now I don't know how to get back. If Teacher finds out I'm missing, he'll be worried to death."
Indeed, his words sounded flawless.
Alphonse bluntly stated, "I saved your life, you should repay me, shouldn't you?"
"Yes." Midio nodded.
"But you don't have a purse on you, and you can't offer me any reward, can you?"
Alphonse had briefly examined it last night, meaning he hadn't removed his necklace.
Midio was indeed carrying nothing on him; in fact, he was completely penniless.
Except for that rather unremarkable magic wand.
"Yes." Midio nodded again.
"I'm very interested in your necklace. Why don't you give it to me as a way of repaying me?"
Alphonse was indeed interested in the necklace. As soon as he used his Soul-Capturing Technique, the necklace reacted on its own. He had to study it carefully.
"No!" Midio cried out, pressing one hand to his chest to protect the pendant hidden beneath his clothes. "This is a keepsake from my father; I can't give it to you!"
"May I take a look?"
"No!" Midio refused again. "What if you don't give it back to me?"
Alphonse was really embarrassed to take something from a child, especially since it was the child's father's heirloom.
This was clearly something very valuable to him.
"So, how do you plan to repay me?"
"I," Midio hesitated for a moment, "can serve you."
He himself seemed a little insecure as he said this, and lowered his head. "But I'm just a magic apprentice, and my magic power isn't strong."
"What kind of magic do you know?"
