Chapter 19

I'll Give You a Surname

Chapter 19 I'll Give You a Surname (Please Read On)

Just as Valen was about to turn around and give instructions to his bodyguards, Mia showed off her skills. She stretched out her slender, fair palm and pressed it down in the air in front of the dwarf, making a downward gesture.

The dwarf groaned, as if he had been weighed down by an extremely heavy object, and was forced to the ground, unable to move.

The slave contract was successfully signed, and Mia withdrew her hand, releasing the dwarf from his restraints.

Only then could the dwarf stand up, glaring hatefully at Mia.

He could clearly sense that the half-elf girl in front of him was not as frail as she appeared, and that her martial prowess far surpassed his.

Valen immediately ordered his bodyguards to open the cell, release the dwarf, and remove the iron shackles he was wearing.

"Give me back my things!" the dwarf roared, stretching his limbs.

"No problem," Valen agreed with a smile, then turned and instructed his bodyguard to retrieve the dwarf's belongings.

Alphonse was a little surprised that after the dwarf was captured, Valen had actually packed up all his belongings.

The bodyguard quickly brought over the dwarf's belongings: a tattered travel backpack, a helmet with a broken corner, a meat cleaver with a leather sheath, a pitch-black, filthy-looking frying pan, and a large metal ladle with a long handle.

It seems this dwarf is indeed a cook, as he even carries cooking utensils with him.

The dwarf impatiently opened his backpack, rummaged through it, let out a long sigh, then put the horned helmet on his head, hung all the odds and ends on the backpack, and slung it over his shoulder.

You could tell he was very concerned about the things in his backpack.

Alphonse glanced at them a few times but couldn't tell what was important about them. There was a thick notebook with an animal hide cover, some clothes, and a few wooden bottles and jars.

Mia didn't want to open the money box in this dirty and filthy dungeon. "Let's go upstairs and settle the bill."

"Okay!" Warren didn't mind; as long as the deal was done, that was fine.

Back in the living room, Mia opened the money box, counted out 150 gold coins, and handed them to Valen.

Having achieved his goal, Alphonse did not linger. He bid farewell to Valen and left the manor with Mia and the dwarf slaves.

"Master, that female knight named Mia is very strong. Her battle aura is definitely more than level three," the bodyguard suddenly said to Valen.

"Oh?" Valen's smile had vanished, his small eyes darting around. He knew that his bodyguard possessed the strength of a third-tier swordsman. "I didn't expect this little lord to have such a high-level talent under his command. It seems I need to raise my assessment of him. Well, she should be able to handle those troublesome dwarves."

A slave contract purchased from the Mage Guild alone can control the life and death of a dwarf slave at will. However, dwarves are a race with a fierce nature, and they would never willingly become slaves. If they take advantage of their master's lack of vigilance, they might fight to the death and perish together.

That's why no one cares about this dwarf, and he can only fool this country bumpkin lord.

If this young lord is safe and sound, perhaps we can send him an invitation to next month's auction.

Nobles are all potential customers.

It would be even better if he didn't like haggling.

Alphonse brazenly surveyed the dwarf, whose height barely reached his waist.

It's estimated to be about the same height as General Pandora, a height that wouldn't be hit by artillery fire.

I've seen them a lot in games and anime, but this is the first time I've seen such a race in the real world.

His large, messy beard almost covered his upper body, and with his horned helmet on, only his copper bell-like eyes and round nose could be seen.

Hmm, it really smells awful. Has he not showered in ages?

"What's your name?"

Because of the slave contract, the dwarf had no way to refuse to answer, and could only reply in a muffled voice, "Tess."

Yo!

What a name!

It seems we're destined to be together!

Anyone who has seen the movie "一路向西" (One Way to the West) should understand how much resentment they feel towards the West.

"Great name!" Alphonse exclaimed. "No surname?"

Mia couldn't understand what was so good about it; she just felt confused. The dwarf named Taisi felt the same way, "Nothing!"

"Shouldn't dwarves all have surnames like Bronzebeard, Ironbeard, or Wildhammer?" Alphonse asked curiously.

"That's not true!"

"I see." Alphonse stroked his chin thoughtfully. Unlike the dwarves in the Mountain Pass, "Then I'll give you a surname. From now on, you'll be called Rerumie. Remember that."

This is partly to express my resentment towards "Taixi" and partly to commemorate my past life.

"Hmm," Taisi hummed in a muffled voice.

Mia wanted to remind him that slaves were not entitled to surnames, but then she thought that Alphonse was a man who liked to act recklessly, and he had improved somewhat recently, so she let him have his way of giving surnames to slaves.

At least, what we bought wasn't some kind of female slave.

Seeing that Tethys accepted without hesitation and did not have any special reaction, Alphonse was a little disappointed. In the anime, giving a name to a different race could make them bow down and swear allegiance to the death.

It turns out that anime is all lies.

"You really can't forge iron?" Alphonse was still not giving up. Perhaps Tessie was hiding something. Isn't blacksmithing a racial talent of dwarves?

"No!" Tessy was full of resentment, but she had no choice but to answer her master's question honestly because she couldn't refuse.

Alphonse sighed, feeling disappointed, but he had no choice but to give up.

Back at the hotel, Alphonse immediately told the waiter, pointing to Tessie, "Prepare a bath, take him there, and let him have a good wash."

Taixi was unwilling to take off his backpack and obediently followed the waiter to the bathhouse.

Alphonse turned to the hotel owner and ordered, "Bring me a pot of beef stew with potatoes and a barrel of ale."

The hotel owner respectfully agreed, saying that although it was past mealtime, he could certainly provide food if the guests wished, since he would charge extra anyway.

Alphonse sat down at a table and waited for the food to be served.

Mia sat down across the table and sneered, "You think treating him well will make him devoted to you? Save your breath. He'll only obey you because of the slave contract."

"He'll be my servant from now on, so it's only right that I make sure he's well-fed." Alphonse waved his hand dismissively. "It's nothing, you can go and rest now."

"No," Mia said coldly. "I'm keeping an eye on that dwarf."

"Why?" Alphonse asked, bewildered.

"I don't want to see you become a corpse; it would sadden the lady," Mia said coldly.

"Huh?" Alphonse was puzzled. He was in excellent health and could not possibly die suddenly.

"Dwarves are stubborn and violent by nature, and they don't easily pledge allegiance to anyone, let alone as slaves. If I don't keep an eye on you, and he suddenly attacks you, you're finished!" Mia explained coldly.
