Chapter 21
Harvesting the Boss's Leeks
Chapter 21 Harvesting the Boss's Leeks
Another night of counting tips until my hands cramped.
Bruce clutched the small denomination dollars in his hand and said, "I'm planning to buy a new car."
Martin turned the box over and poured out the money inside, including one-dollar and two-dollar bills, piled up like a small mountain.
As he counted the money, he said, "Shouldn't civilized people buy autographed photos?"
"You still owe me a lot of autographed photos!" Bruce reminded him, then asked, "How long can this kind of income last?"
Martin tied the stack of dollars with a rubber band and said, "Tips are unstable and depend on customer traffic."
Bruce asked, "Can you maintain this high customer traffic in the long run?"
Martin deliberately changed the subject: "Hey, buddy, do you think I'm God?"
Bruce said, "God is a black man, are you sure you want to be God?"
"Never mind then, I'd rather suffer in this world." Martin put away the three bundles of money he had tied up, stuffed them into his bag, and adjusted his holster, ready to draw his gun at any moment.
Bruce put on his coat and they went home together.
As Martin got into the car, he shouted to Bruce, "Don't forget the party tomorrow afternoon."
Bruce waved his hand and started the car to leave.
The Ford remained stationary, while Martin sat inside, popping a piece of chewing gum into his mouth and chewing as he pondered.
He had actually given Bruce's question some thought.
But as soon as customer traffic picked up, the owner, Vincent, was filled with satisfaction and no longer as eager as before. Even if Martin made the offer, there wouldn't be much return.
We need to wait; there are proper methods to exploit business owners.
The next morning, Martin first went to the Marietta Theatre Company to make his presence known to the company director, Jerome, and asked the self-proclaimed expert Jerome a few questions about acting, giving the director a sense of satisfaction in mentoring a novice.
That's not the main point, of course.
"Commander, I can take care of basic living expenses." Martin wanted to make sure the creditors remembered that this bastard still owed him money! He proactively promised, "I will definitely pay back the overdue membership fees as soon as possible."
Jerome has a friend who lent him $200 over a year ago and never mentioned paying it back. He was very satisfied with Martin's attitude, saying, "Keep your phone on next week. I've got another film lined up, also with Gray."
Martin said, "You can call me anytime."
When they came out, Martin asked Ben Jerome for the entertainment weekly he had finished reading.
I'll give it to Bruce later.
Martin went to the supermarket to buy some fresh fruits and vegetables to prepare for the afternoon party.
The Carter siblings all came to help.
The barbecue grill was set up, and cheap beer, whiskey, and rum were placed on the table. Elena made a large bowl of vegetable salad, Lily and Hall tidied up the backyard, and Harris, with one arm in a sling, fiddled with the stereo Martin had rented, preparing to be a DJ.
Martin specifically marked out a spot: "This will be the dance floor; let's dance together then."
Elena said, "I asked around, and the neighbors go out to work during the day, so they won't attract APD (Advanced Persons' Protection) attention."
Because Martin was going to the House of the Beasts that night, the party started at 2:30 pm. Monica brought more than a dozen young girls, all of whom were poor girls from the nearby community.
Several people who had worked as tutors for Harris also came.
There were quite a few of them, and they were making a ruckus.
After the two followed Hall to another location, Martin asked, "How did you manage to get the invitation?"
"The customers," Harris said, "are happy, so they'll keep me as a tutor and even refer new students who need tutoring. I charge by the hour, so I can make a good amount of money."
Martin nodded: "Making money is nothing to be ashamed of."
Bruce, Ivan, Golden Hair, Hart, and others arrived at this time, and Martin went to greet them. Unlike the girls, they all brought gifts, more or less.
Seeing the crowd in the backyard, Ivan didn't bother to say anything more to Martin, and strode into it, starting to dance wildly.
Before Bruce could speak, he was taken away by the voluptuous Monikara.
Martin turned on the stereo, and as the music started, everyone raised their glasses of beer, whiskey, and rum.
Alcohol stirred up emotions, and handsome men and hot women danced sizzling hot dances.
With so many people and so much footsteps, the ground seemed to tremble, and the soil in the backyard was compacted even more firmly.
Even a simple party can be a great one.
Martin had a few drinks, mingled with the crowd and danced for a while, then went back behind the barbecue grill to cook.
I've had outdoor barbecues before, so grilling simple meat isn't a problem.
Elena played for a while and then offered to help.
Once the first batch was baked, Harris pulled Hall over and took some to give to Harris's students.
With a large number of people and few grills, the grilling process is inevitably slow.
Hart shouted, "Boss Martin, you're too slow! There's not enough to eat!"
Martin pointed to the long table in the yard: "Beer is all you can drink, as much as you want."
Elena came over and said, "You overestimated your grilling speed; there's not enough food."
Martin said, "Call the Rosario BBQ and have them send some food over as soon as possible."
Elena nodded and picked up her phone to make a call.
Bruce shook off Monica's advances and ran over to grill meat with Martin: "Your grilling skills are pretty good, at least they're edible. I thought you'd grill poison."
Martin flipped the skewers: "Old Brooks, let me tell you the truth, I'm the most versatile person in Atlanta."
"Yeah, bragging is number one." Bruce's usual sarcasm: "Don't even mention Atlanta, there are people in all of Georgia who can brag better than you."
Martin added some charcoal to the oven: "I'm also good at roasting civilized people."
After Elena finished her call, she came over and said, "Want to try a cocktail?"
Martin agreed: "Sure, it'll be a good opportunity for them to taste it."
It would be a waste not to use so many people as guinea pigs in experiments.
Elena called Monica over, and the two of them went next door and brought over various base spirits, ice, and raw materials.
Bruce took over the oven for the time being, and Martin helped Elena prepare the raw materials. Elena called out a few times and started experimenting with cocktails, mixing several common cocktails.
Perhaps due to the alcohol "indoctrination" she received from the Carters from a young age, Elena has a natural talent in this area.
Of course, the drinks mixed by beginners will inevitably taste strange.
The people at the party became guinea pigs.
But nobody cares, as long as it's fun enough.
During this time, some men and women said goodbye and left; for example, Monica dragged Bruce away.
For adult men and women, it's commonplace.
Around 6 p.m., the party ended, and many people were drunk, leaving the backyard in a mess.
Martin pulled Elena towards the club: "I'll take you out to have some fun." He pointed to the backyard and said to the two minors and the disabled man, "Idiots, clean this up. If there's still any damn trash here when I come back, I'll dig a hole and bury you all! Trust me, I can do it!"
