Chapter 25
The Chitauri Legacy!
Chapter 25 The Chitauri Legacy!
[Special Abilities]: Self-healing factor, thermal vision.
Logan looked at the new section. "New ability?"
Unexpectedly, after killing Conrad and eliminating a potential threat, I unlocked a new ability.
Heat vision may seem useless, but it is one of Superman's superpowers. Although his current heat vision is certainly not as exaggerated as Superman's, having a new ability means having another means of self-protection.
You can't go far now relying solely on your self-healing ability and the steel claws on your hands.
Moreover, he may even awaken more other abilities in the future.
boom!
Gunfire from behind interrupted Logan's thoughts; whistling bullets nearly grazed his ears.
"Damn it!"
Logan cursed and strode out of the warehouse area.
The clattering gunfire from the rear shattered the tranquility of the jungle, startling countless birds into flight.
Fortunately, the accuracy of a gun while running is really bad, and coupled with Logan's unpredictable escape route, the trajectory of the bullets is always off.
"James, over here!"
Suddenly, a bright light burst in, followed by the roar of a truck at full throttle, and Samuel waving and shouting.
Logan strode into the car and quickly closed the door. Bullets whistled past him, striking the door and windows with a clang. Fortunately, the bulletproof glass did not shatter, but instead left behind a dense network of cracks resembling a spider web.
Samuel slammed on the gas, and the truck roared off, quickly leaving the large group of gunmen behind.
"Get out of the city immediately!"
Logan sat in the passenger seat, panting heavily, and turned to Samuel to urge him on.
It's late at night now, and there's less traffic, making it the best time to leave the city. If we wait until dawn, the cars of commuters will clog all the main roads, and then both the Juarez family and S.H.I.E.L.D. will be able to catch up with them easily!
"But Conrad hasn't gotten on the bus yet!"
Samuel noticed that Conrad did not get into the car with Logan.
"he……"
Logan sighed and said, "The Juarez family has already killed him."
"What?!"
Samuel's face was filled with surprise, which then turned to anger. "Damn it!"
He had carried out many dangerous missions with Conrad. Although the guy had a bit of a temper, he was still a teammate who had risked his life together. Upon hearing the news of his death, Samuel felt an involuntary anger.
Josh, sitting in the back seat, also frowned, but remained relatively calm, saying in a deep voice, "Alright, let's get out of the city first. The goods are important; we can talk about revenge later!"
Samuel nodded and sped off toward the New York border.
Not long after Logan and his group left, a fleet of black SUVs roared in and instantly surrounded Juarez's logistics warehouse.
A group of fully armed agents jumped out of the car and searched all the warehouses thoroughly. In just a few minutes, they had completely captured the Juarez family.
"My God, has something terrible happened here?"
Inside the warehouse, Steve and Rumlow stared in astonishment at the corpses scattered all over the floor.
While shootings are nothing new in the United States, it is rare to see such a large-scale event.
"It seems they've run into a formidable opponent."
Rumlow looked at the corpses on the ground; most of them had been accurately shot in the head or had bullets pierce their hearts. The opponent's marksmanship was superb.
Steve walked down the corridor with a furrowed brow and came to the middle of the warehouse.
A group of heavily armed agents formed a circle, inside which all the members of the Juarez family were disarmed and crouching on the ground with their heads in their hands.
"Have they all been caught?"
Steve then questioned Natasha, who was carrying out the arrest.
Natasha nodded. "Everyone in the warehouse is here. According to them, a group of people robbed this place just now."
Steve's gaze swept over the group, and he asked sternly, "Who's in charge here?"
The bearded man cautiously raised his head, his eyes darting away, avoiding Steve's gaze.
"Where are the two crates of BU-26 and BU-27?"
Steve questioned.
"It was just stolen."
The bearded man pointed to the corpses in the corridor above, "They also killed quite a few of our people."
Damn it.
Steve's face darkened. "If we'd arrived any later, Fury's entire intelligence department could have gone on vacation. Taking three days to search a warehouse—their efficiency is even worse than a bunch of robbers!"
"These guys have so many men and weapons, yet they can't even stop a few!"
Rumlow, standing to the side, said coldly, "Quickly arrange for people to guard all the entrances and exits to New York. That shipment cannot be allowed to leave!"
Natasha shook her head helplessly and said, "It's too late. This is the suburbs. In such a long time, they've probably already left the city."
"The intelligence delay is Nick Fury's problem; let him handle the rest of the trouble."
As Natasha spoke, she took out a hard drive and said, "This is the surveillance footage around the warehouse."
"How do I use this?"
Steve held the hard drive, looking at it awkwardly over and over again.
"There's a computer in the car, go check it out there."
Natasha noticed the embarrassment on Steve's face, took the hard drive, and led the two of them into the car.
These surveillance cameras are located around the warehouse, but due to the darkness, the images captured are very blurry.
"It's not very clear; the technical department might need to process it."
Natasha stared at the monitor screen, her brow furrowed. "But judging from the number of people and their general appearance, they should be the same people from the port."
Steve nodded, his gaze fixed on the blurry, aged face on the screen, lost in thought...
Meanwhile, Logan and his group were speeding along the highways outside New York City, quickly returning to Texas.
Chris had already taken care of all the checkpoints along the way, and the trucks traveled smoothly without any obstacles.
The highway was silent in the dead of night, and Logan and his truck traveled alone through the endless darkness.
Poor Conrad.
Samuel drove the car, sighing regretfully, "He may have had a bad temper, but I never thought this guy would die like this, without even a proper burial."
Logan glanced at Samuel and could tell that his regret was genuine.
Does he have family?
Logan asked.
"To my knowledge, no, I've never seen him talk to his family on the phone or send them any messages."
Samuel sighed again.
Logan stopped talking and sighed helplessly.
Although Conrad's death was his doing, he now had to feign some regret.
He saw through the rearview mirror that Josh in the back seat was staring at him.
This guy might already be starting to have some doubts about himself...
After a few minutes of silence, Logan suddenly spoke up: "Consider the money from this mission as his funeral expenses. Find him a priest."
Samuel nodded silently.
Speechless all the way.
The three of them took turns driving, almost without stopping, and finally returned to San Antonio the following afternoon, back to the Lawrence family's logistics warehouse.
Chris, who had heard the news, was already waiting at the warehouse entrance, watching Logan and the others unload the cargo boxes from the truck with anticipation.
"Is it all here?"
Christian excitedly knocked on the cargo box and waved to Logan, saying, "Open it!"
Logan used a crowbar to pry open the three locks outside the alley, opened the cargo box, and inside was a silver-white iron box wrapped in a thin film.
Tear off the film, open the clasp of the box, and lift the box open.
What he saw inside made him pause in surprise.
A broken laser gun that doesn't match the luxurious silver-white case at all; the gun body has many obvious nicks and punctures, as if it has just been through a major battle.
"good."
Chris showed no sign of distress over the damaged laser gun; instead, his eyes gleamed with admiration as he repeatedly picked it up.
The heavy laser gun required him to lift it with both hands, and he stroked the gun.
At the same time, he noticed that Logan's gaze was fixed on the gun, which made the previously excited Chris show a little displeasure. "Alright, mission accomplished, all of you can leave now. The money will be transferred to your accounts later."
"Um."
Logan nodded, but his furrowed brow remained furrowed for a long time.
He recognized the gun; it was a weapon left behind by the Chitauri during the Battle of New York. Although it was somewhat worn, its functions should still be intact.
This is a product far beyond Earth's technology, and its power is probably stronger than any firearm on Earth.
Logan then understood why S.H.I.E.L.D. and Steve had appeared at the port to compete with them for this shipment.
Clearly, they didn't want this batch of goods to be leaked.
It seems the Lawrence family cannot remain.
On the way back, Logan was somewhat uneasy.
It now seems that the Lawrence family's ambitions are even greater than he imagined, and he must get away as soon as possible, or he may be drawn into an unnecessary war.
As he pondered, Logan suddenly felt a surge of energy.
correct.
Heat vision!
He thought of his new ability, but he had been too busy traveling to explore it in detail.
It now seems that the special reward mentioned when the new ability was awakened was to grant him the new ability!
In an instant, the worry on Logan's face eased a little.
For him, this was undoubtedly a great thing.
After all, his self-healing ability and steel claws were not enough for him to support the entire race.
