Escorting the Goods Out of the City!

Chapter 7 Escorting the Goods Out of the City!

One of the Lawrence family’s main businesses today is logistics, which, through massive investment, has allowed them to quickly capture the largest logistics market in Santa Fe.

The largest logistics warehouse in western Santa Fe City is a property of the Lawrence Group. Countless containers arrive here every day and are then transferred to ports around the world. The daily profit is enough for an ordinary person to live a life of luxury.

Outside the bustling warehouse, two trucks loaded with goods were parked, and three men who looked intimidating were quietly waiting beside them.

"This shipment is very important, so keep a close eye on it and make sure nothing goes wrong."

Conrad, cigarette dangling from his fingertips, turned to his two companions and warned, "If anything goes wrong, the three of us combined won't be enough to cover the damages!"

Samuel, the driver, and Josh, the security guard, nodded silently. Years of working together had made them accustomed to Conrad's bossing them around.

Who told this guy to be a mercenary before? He had successfully completed many dangerous missions in the rainforest and desert, and in terms of combat ability, he could subdue them with one hand.

"Aren't you leaving yet?"

Tall and thin, wearing a lightweight bulletproof vest, Josh asked, "Have we been waiting long enough?"

"Wait a little longer, Chris told us to wait for him to come before we leave."

Conrad casually tossed the cigarette butt aside and stomped it out. "Okay, they're here."

After saying that, he straightened his clothes and strode towards Chris, who was walking in from outside.

However, he then noticed that Chris was accompanied by an old man with a full beard.

"Is there anything else planned, Mr. Chris? We're all ready."

Conrad smiled and spoke to Chris.

Chris didn't respond directly, but turned to Logan beside him and introduced him: "This is Conrad, he used to be a mercenary, and he's very strong in combat."

As he spoke, he turned to look at the driver on the other side, "His name is Samuel. He has excellent driving skills. Even on the roughest mountain roads, he can make you sleep very soundly in the car."

"And then there's Josh, who's an expert in assembling all sorts of firearms and has exceptional driving skills; he's the driver of the second car."

Logan was still wearing that cheap suit. He looked at the three people in front of him, nodded slightly, and said, "Hello."

Chris smiled and then pointed to Logan, introducing him: "This is Mr. James. He will be working with you on the mission. I hope you can cooperate well. By the way, if there are any problems along the way, you must follow James's instructions."

"he?"

Conrad glanced at Logan with surprise. "He looks at least sixty, Mr. Chris. Are you sure you're not joking?"

"Of course not."

Chris looked at Conrad, his tone leaving no room for doubt, "I trust my judgment. Mr. James will be a good leader. If you want the money, you'd better do as I say."

Faced with money, Conrad ultimately chose to remain silent, merely looking Logan up and down with a furrowed brow, clearly finding it difficult to obey the old man's orders.

"Alright, let's go. I hope you have a safe journey."

Chris smiled and pointed to the truck.

Logan didn't say anything and strode towards the passenger side of the first truck.

The others didn't say anything more and turned to get into the car.

Before Josh turned around, Chris pulled him aside and whispered, "Keep an eye on James on the way. That guy isn't trustworthy. If anything unusual happens, I don't mind if you bring his body back, but be careful. If you do make a move, make sure it's a fatal blow. He's a dangerous guy."

Josh glanced at Chris's fierce eyes, then turned to look at Logan, who had already gotten into the car. He nodded silently, then turned and got into the car.

The two vehicles drove away from the warehouse one after the other, traveling on a highway in the desert.

Logan stared silently at the endless desert outside the window.

The destination this time is Las Vegas, Nevada, which is very far from Texas.

This also marks Logan's first time leaving San Antonio and Texas.

Having spent so much time in San Antonio, he had almost forgotten what the outside world was like.

He had thought he would remain in seclusion in San Antonio until he had earned enough money to take the professor to sea and retire there.

Unexpectedly, they left this arid desert ahead of schedule for $20,000.

Looking out the window at the scenery, Logan had a complex expression and was filled with emotion. He let out a long sigh.

"Want a smoke?" Samuel suddenly offered him a cigarette, though he already had one in his mouth, and the smoke he exhaled was instantly dispersed by the wind outside the car.

"Thank you." Logan took the cigarette, lit it with the lighter, took a deep drag, and the white smoke drifted away in the wind.

"This is your first time participating in an escort mission, isn't it?"

Samuel asked the question while driving.

"Um."

Logan simply nodded.

"Heh, you took Conrad's position as team leader. He's definitely not happy about it. Be careful, he's not someone to mess with."

Samuel, with a cigarette dangling from his lips and gripping the steering wheel, spoke casually.

Logan glanced at Samuel with surprise.

Logan was somewhat surprised by what the other person said; he hadn't expected him to say these things.

"I'm only in it for the money, I have no other intentions."

Logan responded indifferently, saying he would leave as soon as he made money, and he didn't care about being a team leader or anything like that.

"Which of us isn't in it for the money?"

Samuel smiled and shook his head. "But people like us can only earn a meager living. To earn more dollars, we have to get into the Lawrence family. Only by stepping into that place can we truly escape the lower class and enter the upper class."

"Does Conrad want to get inside the Lawrence family?"

Logan glanced in the rearview mirror at the truck behind them and suddenly understood why Conrad cared so much about the team leader position.

Samuel nodded. "Of course, that guy is very ambitious, and since the team can complete the mission so well, Chris and the others will naturally give credit to the team leader. So Conrad usually takes the team leader position very seriously."

"In short, be careful. He might try every means to make trouble for you in order to get the team leader position. He might even deliberately cause some trouble to delay or fail the mission, so as to show that he is the only right person to lead the team and make Chris and the others pay more attention to him."

Samuel may have wanted to prevent anything from going wrong during the mission, or he may have meant well by telling Logan to be careful of Conrad.

"Thank you for reminding me." Logan nodded dismissively, not taking Conrad's potential threat to heart.

Samuel smiled. "No need to thank me. If the mission goes wrong, my bonus will be reduced. I hope this trip goes smoothly."

……

As they chatted, the vehicle arrived at the Texas border checkpoint.

As a federal country, each state even has its own unique laws, and official credentials are required to travel across state lines.

This is also why Logan rarely went out after entering Texas; as a wanted criminal, he obviously couldn't obtain credentials through legitimate channels.

However, it is clear that the Lawrence family had already established a network of connections here.

The truck bearing the Lawrence family logo didn't even need to stop at the checkpoint; it drove through the border smoothly and crossed the Texas border without any hindrance.

As Chris said, it was a very long journey. Nevada is very far from San Antonio, and they had only covered half the distance by sunset.

However, after leaving San Antonio, the original desert gradually faded away, and lush greenery began to appear at both ends of the road. The route they chose was a forest avenue, which led to a small town. The convoy needed to cross the town to enter the new highway.

"Let's take turns driving tonight; I don't want to waste time on the road."

Logan glanced at the darkening sky and turned to look at Samuel.

The longer they were delayed on the road, the more things could happen, and Logan didn't want any accidents to occur.

"Okay." Samuel, clearly unconcerned about traveling overnight, picked up the walkie-talkie and said, "I'll tell them."

However, as soon as he finished speaking, Samuel looked at the rearview mirror and suddenly froze. "Wait, what did they do?!"

Logan quickly looked in the rearview mirror and saw the truck that had been following behind suddenly turn and stop outside a pub.

"Stop the car and go check it out!" Logan ordered.

Samuel quickly stopped the vehicle.

At this moment, Conrad and Josh had also gotten out of the car behind and were about to enter the tavern.

Logan stepped in front of them, "What are you doing? Did I say I was going to stop?"

Conrad glanced at Logan and said dismissively, "Old man, I don't care what you think, but I need to rest now. You can go if you want. We need to have a drink here and then hit the road tomorrow morning!"

Logan frowned, his face grim. "I said, get in the car now, and we'll travel tonight!"

Conrad merely glanced at Logan, snorted coldly, and strode forward nonchalantly, shoving Logan aside with his shoulder as he entered the tavern.
