Chapter 28
Unexpected Events, Donald the Sucker
Chapter 28 Unexpected Events, Donald the Sucker
"More than 110,000."
Logan checked his bill balance on his phone.
During this time, he did two things for the Lawrence family.
Although the Lawrence family has a bad reputation, they have never been ambiguous about paying compensation.
Not long after I got home yesterday, the reward of 100,000 yuan for the task arrived in my account.
Including the first payment and recent expenses, there is still over 110,000 left in the card.
This money was enough for him to leave Santa Fe with the professor and Caliban, and even maintain a relatively comfortable lifestyle during their escape.
After putting down his phone, Logan sat on the sofa and began to ponder how to get rid of the Lawrence family.
After the previous direct confrontation with S.H.I.E.L.D., Logan believed that, given S.H.I.E.L.D.'s capabilities, they had probably already identified the Lawrence family as the culprits behind the theft of the laser gun.
In the near future, S.H.I.E.L.D. may even send agents into Santa Fe to search for detailed information about the Lawrence family.
Furthermore, Donald, who also resides in Santa Fe City, is a force to be reckoned with.
This small city of Santa Fe may soon witness a chaotic battle between three factions.
He had to find a way to leave as soon as possible before this happened.
He didn't want to get involved in this mess.
The most important thing if you want to leave is to withdraw all the money from your bank card.
After all, once the life on the run officially begins, the bank card will definitely no longer be usable. Otherwise, anyone who can find out the bank card's transaction address can easily pinpoint their location.
Before that, Logan faced two thorny issues.
How to get rid of the Lawrence family.
The second is how to help Laura escape Donald's pursuit.
The former is relatively easier.
Although the Lawrence family wields immense power in Santa Fe, it is confined to Santa Fe. Once Logan and his team leave Texas, the Lawrence family's influence will become quite limited.
If he acts quickly enough to leave Texas with the Professor and Caliban before the Lawrence family can react, the danger level will be greatly reduced.
As for the latter, that's the real trouble.
Donald attaches great importance to Laura, and they also have government support. As long as Laura's location is discovered, no matter which state she is in, he can mobilize a large number of troops.
"This is a big problem."
Logan lay on the sofa, staring at the dilapidated ceiling, lost in thought.
Of course, he could also choose to give up Laura.
Donald's attention is now focused on Laura. As long as he doesn't interfere and lets Laura be captured, there won't be any trouble later.
But that's obviously impossible.
First, Laura carries his genes; she is his "flesh and blood."
Secondly, Laura knows many new-generation mutants.
He wants to organize a mutant group and gain more prestige within the community, which requires the participation of these new generation mutants.
This foreshadows a deadly confrontation between him and Donald...
Ding ding ding!!
Just as Logan was wondering what to do, his phone rang urgently, completely interrupting his thoughts.
"Feed?" Logan answered the phone.
"Logan, do you have time? There's a new mission, assemble at the logistics warehouse." Chris's voice came from the other end of the phone.
Logan jolted, sat down on the sofa, and frowned. "I've only had half a day of rest."
"There's nothing I can do," Chris said with a smile. "You know how fleeting opportunities to make money are."
"All right."
Logan was somewhat helpless, but he had no choice but to accept it; he wasn't ready to completely break ties with the Lawrence family yet.
He asked helplessly, "What mission?"
"Go to the logistics warehouse first. Samuel and the others are on their way there. There will be arrangements when they arrive."
After saying that, Chris hung up the phone.
Logan looked at his phone, sighed helplessly, and got up to head to the Lawrence family's logistics warehouse.
At the warehouse entrance, Logan didn't see Chris, but he did see Josh and Samuel, along with a black man who was in charge of reception, and two vans bearing the Lawrence family logo.
"James, over here."
Samuel waved to Logan.
Logan approached him, glanced at the black man, and then whispered to Samuel, "What mission? Why the rush?"
"I don't know either." Samuel shrugged. "Josh and I had just finished allocating Conrad's pay when I got the call and rushed over."
Chris didn't ask much about Conrad's death, but the payment he was owed didn't stop because of it.
Logan didn't ask any further questions, but Samuel counted on his fingers and said to himself, "We used part of that money to hold a prayer meeting for him, and asked a priest to perform the ceremony in front of his clothes. The rest was donated to a welfare organization, as a way to do good for this wicked guy, hoping that he can suffer less in hell."
Logan didn't care where the money went, and he had no say in whether Samuel and his friends used it for gambling.
He was still concerned about this mission.
"Is it still the three of us on this mission?"
Logan glanced at the black man beside him. The man was dressed in a well-fitting suit and was only responsible for reception, so he obviously wouldn't participate in the mission himself.
"Of course not."
The response to Logan was not from Samuel, but from a voice that Logan did not want to hear.
"And me too, James."
Logan frowned and looked over, only to see Donald walking toward them with a smile on his face outside the warehouse door.
At this moment, the black man beside him spoke up: "Mr. Chris has instructed that Mr. Donald will also participate in this mission."
Logan stared at Donald, who was walking briskly.
He knew this guy was up to no good, so he turned to the black man and said, "Can I refuse? Chris always assigns dangerous missions, and I'm worried this guy will hold us back."
"No." The black man shook his head decisively and explained, "This mission is fully funded by Mr. Donald, and you need to cooperate with any of his actions."
Logan understood; Donald was the financier of this mission.
At this moment, Donald walked up to Logan and said with a smile, "Hey, James, don't underestimate me. I'm pretty good too."
Logan glanced at him, then nodded in agreement, and followed Samuel to the first truck, where he opened the door and sat down.
Before Samuel could even start the truck, Donald walked up and pulled him down, saying, "Hey, buddy, you've got to sit in the back."
After saying that, he got into the driver's seat.
Samuel had no choice but to get into the truck behind, since the other party was a major investor.
"What exactly do you want?"
Logan frowned as he watched Donald start the truck.
"Don't be nervous, we're just taking something that rightfully belongs to us, it's all legal and compliant."
Donald flashed an innocent smile, stuck his head out the window, patted the car door, and called out to the back, "Gentlemen, let's go!"
