Like Sunlight Piercing Through the Night

Chapter 5 Like Sunlight Piercing Through the Night

Snapped.

The restaurant lights went out without warning, leaving the guests momentarily bewildered by the sudden darkness. However, this state of mind didn't last long, because the next moment, the wall facing the corridor was blown apart with a loud bang.

The guests gasped in surprise, and the elegant ladies screamed. A bat-shaped silhouette appeared behind the black smoke, like a demon surveying everyone in the room with a judgmental gaze.

"ladies and gentlemen."

A deep, husky voice, processed by a voice changer, rang out.

"You are feasting on Gotham's wealth, the spirit of this city. But this feast is about to end. Starting from this moment."

He approached slowly, the shadow of the giant bat projected onto the carpet, reflected in the terrified pupils of every member of the upper class, as if branded into their very souls through those eyes.

"None of you are safe."

A grand entrance, a perfect sense of oppression. Despite being a rookie, Batman successfully maximized the "dramatic" effect, deeply implanting fear into the hearts of these Gotham elites.

Or rather, that's how it should be.

But a sinister, grinning voice rang out behind him.

"Oh, really? I have my doubts."

Batman turned his head alertly and was shocked to see a twisted black shadow that had appeared in the darkness behind him. A pitch-black object was flung at him, and he had no time to think, only managing to raise his arm to block it.

The next moment, he felt a huge impact that almost dislocated his arm, and then his whole body was sent flying by a terrifying force, flying straight out into the corridor outside the restaurant.

The sheer force was overwhelming, even with the Batsuit cushioning it. Batman half-crouched as he rose, only to see the silhouette of another bat emerge from the darkness.

In the darkness, one could vaguely see short, light gray fur covering tough skin, a sharp beak with sharp, curved teeth, a wingspan of over two meters, and a terrifying and distorted appearance.

Even the guests couldn't help but gasp in surprise, while Maroni laughed maniacally.

"Ha, when I heard that some crazy guy dressed as Batman was going against us, I thought, seriously? A guy in a costume who calls himself 'Batman'?"

Clearly, you haven't seen a true demon, my new ally, a demon from hell!

The bat-shaped demon let out a piercing shriek, and it seemed as if all the glass on the entire floor was resonating in response.

Clearly, this was the first time the novice had encountered such a supernatural situation, and it was somewhat beyond his expectations. But he reacted quickly, raising his hand and sending two batarangs flying.

Batman's self-made Batdarts are crafted from a new alloy material developed within Wayne Technologies, capable of cutting through iron like butter and even penetrating steel plates.

Yet they couldn't leave even a scratch on this twisted monster.

The Bat-Demon roared and pounced. Batman rolled aside, his claws blasting through the wall behind him.

He spun around and delivered a powerful back kick. This leg attack, with its maximum explosive force, is essentially the most powerful strike a human can deliver in any fighting system. With Batman's masterful fighting skills and the limits of human physical ability, kicking a towering ancient tree in half like in a martial arts movie would be no problem at all.

But the monster remained unmoved, without even a moment's hesitation, and with a backhand swipe, it grabbed Batman by the throat and slammed him against the wall, his back cracking the wall as he crashed through it.

At this stage, even the equipment in Batman's all-purpose belt is basic weaponry designed only for fighting street criminals. There's no advanced technology for god-like battles later on, not even explosive batarangs.

The armor couldn't withstand such monstrous grip strength, and he knew perfectly well that his neck would be crushed to pieces by this monster within a second.

Before that, he threw a smoke bomb at the other person's face.

It was obviously impossible to harm this monster, but the instantly exploding smoke screen did manage to choke it. The demon coughed twice and involuntarily released its grip. Batman took the opportunity to break free and quickly disappeared into the smoke screen.

The demon roared and lashed out with its claws, tearing through the smoke as it angrily chased after the two powerful figures into the kitchen behind the restaurant. The chefs had already slipped out of the kitchen, making room for the two big shots to fight.

The Bat-Demon looked around and quickly located Batman, who was huddled in a corner of the kitchen. The latter was raising another batarang, which flew towards the Bat-Demon with a whooshing sound.

However, it seemed that he panicked too much and lost his aim, and he missed.

The demon grinned, its ugly face displaying a mocking expression, as if laughing at the pathetic human disguised as a bat, unable to be hit even when standing still.

However, when it saw Batman throw a dart and immediately fall to the ground in a bomb-proof stance, it began to realize that something was wrong.

Turning my head again, I saw the microwave oven next to me, which was running at full power and filled with cutlery.

The batarang he just fired didn't miss; he wasn't even aiming at the monster. He already knew the batarang was ineffective against it, and Batman wouldn't make a pointless attempt.

The dart embedded itself in the wall, piercing the natural gas pipeline buried behind it.

boom!!!

In an instant, flames spread and filled the entire kitchen, like a thousand horses galloping through a confined space. The intense heatwave swept away everything in the room, and the entire kitchen collapsed in an instant, engulfing everything, including the demon spirit, in the flames.

Batman was also blasted away by the shockwave, flying out of the building through the cracked wall and falling towards the street below.

Fortunately, his bulletproof suit withstood the main damage, and a black parachute deployed in an emergency during his fall. After being slowed down by the wind, he barely managed to land on the roof of a car parked on the side of the street, smashing the roof and shattering the windows with a loud crash.

Well, his current landing gear is just a parachute; he doesn't yet have the high-tech cloak-like hang glider that he'll have later.

Screams erupted from the surrounding pedestrians, who scattered and stared in astonishment at the strange bat-like figure that had suddenly plummeted from the sky.

Batman took two seconds to regain his balance, then rolled off the roof of the car onto the rubble-strewn ground. He got up, leaning on the mangled car, and gasped for breath.

He realized something was wrong when he heard the surrounding passersby scream again.

Sure enough, when he looked up, he saw that the demon spirit had spread its wings and flown out of the sea of fire from the explosion, fluttering its wings and landing in front of him. It seemed that neither the impact of the explosion nor the fire had caused any damage to its indestructible black body.

"You're a bit different. A human warrior, perhaps?" The demon sneered as it approached. "You have skill and ideas, but you're still just a weak human."

And I am a demon spirit serving that great one! I will not be subjugated by ants.

Um?"

It seemed to be some kind of mysterious sixth sense, a premonition similar to what people often call "a chill down your spine," that made the demon sense a dangerous aura.

Following its instinctive sense of danger, it turned its head and immediately spotted a figure standing out in the fleeing crowd, dressed entirely in black like an assassin.

The man had a strange mechanical device attached to his right arm, which he calmly raised, the dark muzzle of which was pointed at the direction of the demon spirit.

Mo Ling immediately recognized it as a "gun," one of those things created by modern humans.

It had seen humans use similar weapons, but those things were laughably weak in front of a being like a demon spirit, not even worth scratching.

So the demon was delighted.

Who are you trying to scare with this toy?

How ridiculous, how laughable.

Just as it was thinking about twisting off the arm of this arrogant human and watching him wail in fear.

"Specium energy replenished." The energy cannon gave a notification.

Shen You pulled the trigger.

The next moment, the demon saw a dazzling light that seemed to exist only in a dream.

The azure light, like a torrent of water, surged forth, and the resulting recoil caused Shen You to slide back half a step.

The demon's eyes widened in disbelief as the beam of light rushed towards it, a question flashing through its dazed mind.

Perhaps it's because I haven't logged in for too long and I'm out of touch with the latest version.

Are humans really this terrifying nowadays?

I'm just a lowly demon spirit, what grudge could I possibly have against you?

As for?

A stream of azure light swept across, crushing the demon spirits into dust with overwhelming force, and even the seemingly eternal night of Gotham was briefly illuminated.

Like sunlight piercing through the darkness.
