Chapter 78

Superman Arrested?

Chapter 78 Superman Arrested?

Through the news and Kara's description, Shen You quickly figured out what had happened.

In short, a train traveling at 200 miles per hour went out of control tonight. Superman appeared and did his utmost to stop the train, but he was exhausted and was then captured by the military while he was weakened.

real or fake?

Upon seeing this, Shen You felt a sense of doubt.

Superman, stopped on the train, exhausted, and even got arrested? Are you sure this description is the same Superman I know?

But then he thought, just as Batman was a rookie when he first debuted, Superman probably wasn't much better off now. After all, the Superman he saw on TV at this point didn't even have his classic costume, just a simple T-shirt, jeans, and leather boots.

It's not entirely impossible that Superman would be caught these days.

Moreover, Shen You immediately thought of what Brainiac had just said: the Kryptonian archiving had already begun.

Perhaps Old Bu is also interfering?

Judging from the description just now, Old Brooks may have already started contacting high-ranking military officials, and may even have fabricated lies to portray himself as the savior while depicting Superman as a heinous aggressor—it sounds like something Old Brooks would do.

Then Brooks used some methods to help the military capture Superman. This guess sounded much more plausible to Shen You; it was quite normal for a newcomer like Superman to fall into Brooks' hands.

"Mom said I have to take care of Carl, I should look after him!" Kara said nervously. "What should we do now? Should we just storm into that base and rescue Carl?"

"That's a last resort, no rush," Shen You reassured him.

Typical reckless thinking, probably another classic Kryptonian solution derived from her super brain after careful consideration: "Quickly use your superpowers to A-go!"

"Wait for my message, I'll go check it out."

The force that captured Superman was led by General Lane. He's also a familiar face in the Superman stories: the father of Lois Lane, Superman's future wife, and Superman's father-in-law with whom he has a love-hate relationship.

This character bears a striking resemblance to Ross, the father-in-law in the Hulk stories: a staunch anti-Superman activist and a troublemaker. He claims to be acting in humanity's best interests by driving away aliens, but his daily life revolves around creating countless messes he can't clean up, leaving Superman to clean up his messes.

General Ryan is probably still in the early stages of his illness and hasn't yet entered the obsessive phase of wanting to have a father. Right now, he just wants to find an opportunity to take down Superman.

So now all we need to do is figure out a way to sneak into General Ryan's base and take a look.

This was quite easy for Shen You. He was no longer essentially human; his human form was merely a disguise. He could transform into whatever he wanted. In other words, disguise and transformation were among his basic abilities.

So he had Pal forge the files and "create" a new identity.

Mike Williams, a senior agent of Sky Eye.

There were reasons for using the name "Sky Eye" (天眼). Matters involving extraterrestrials fall under Sky Eye's jurisdiction. Furthermore, unlike other departments, Sky Eye is a special agency similar to S.H.I.E.L.D. (the organization behind Marvel's braised eggs). They have a high degree of autonomy and often suddenly interfere in the affairs of other departments, answering any questions with a mysterious "classified."

Wearing the disguise of a Sky Eye agent and carrying a forged identity document from Pal, he successfully infiltrated the camp, but still encountered some minor resistance.

"Sorry, Superman is ours. This isn't a matter for SkyEye," General Ryan said curtly.

"All superhuman and extraterrestrial events fall under the purview of Sky Eye."

Shen You made sure his appearance and tone of voice matched the image of a Sky Eye agent as closely as possible.

"Furthermore, the Sky Eye recently encountered an invasion by extraterrestrial life, which behaved similarly to this 'Superman.' There are indications that the two are connected."

Then his tone softened: "Of course, Director Waller doesn't mean to steal this project. We just hope to share information so that Sky Eye can develop strategies to target these aliens."

General Ryan pondered for a moment, seemingly agreeing that the request was reasonable.

"OK."

General Ryan led him through the base to a facility hidden deep underground. Shen You immediately spotted the captured Superman.

Superman was now locked in a fortified room, strapped to an electric chair. His blue T-shirt was torn in several places, and he was covered in dirt. He sat there with his eyes closed and head tilted to one side, looking as if he were unconscious.

However, after activating Ultra Vision and scanning once, Shen You immediately laughed.

Da Chao is perfectly fine, he's not sick at all. He's just pretending to be unconscious.

Shen You quickly guessed what was going on.

Everyone says Superman is a brute, but a brute isn't a good cook. Superman probably already knew there was a group of people eyeing him all along, and deliberately took this opportunity to pretend to be outmatched so they would capture him, so he could meet the mastermind behind the scenes.

Shen You withdrew his gaze and stole a glance at General Ryan beside him. The old man, watching Superman strapped to the electric chair, was still unable to stop his lips from curving upwards in a wild smile, seemingly basking in the glory of having captured Superman, completely unaware of the seriousness of the situation.

"Why haven't you started the interrogation yet?" Shen You asked.

"We're waiting for an expert," General Ryan said. "It was that expert's plan that helped us capture Superman. He's on his way and should be here in twenty minutes."

General Ryan then began issuing orders: "Don't stop the gas! Don't let this alien wake up! Ha, this guy doesn't seem so 'super' anymore."

Seeing his smug look, Shen You suddenly began to look forward to what his reaction would be when he discovered that Da Chao's health bar was actually full and he was just pretending to be unconscious the whole time.

Superman clearly didn't need him to worry. In contrast, he was now more concerned about what Brainiac had said earlier.

They sneaked into the base's server room and had Pal conduct a thorough search of the entire server. Unfortunately, they found no trace of Old B.

However, there were some unexpected discoveries.

There was a restricted area within the base, classified as "top secret," located on the fourth basement level. Its contents were inaccessible even from the main server. Only General Ryan had permission to enter that room.

This piqued Shen You's curiosity somewhat.

He silently slipped down and landed in the room that was designated as a restricted area, and then suddenly realized what was happening.

Alien objects.

This entire room contains traces of extraterrestrial objects collected from around the world over the long years.

Shen You was even surprised to find an exoskeleton-like suit of armor in the room.

However, a closer look reveals that it is not a traditional exoskeleton. Rather, it is a high-risk technology that requires a complete connection between humans and machines, more like a RoboCop.

The equipment is named "Zero Armor".

A code name quickly came to Shen You's mind.

Metal Man.

Powered by a Kryptonite heart, he is one of Superman's greatest enemies. Superman has suffered many losses at his hands, and has even had a near-death experience.

A soldier named John Coburn became one with the "Zero Armor," transforming into the kryptonite-powered nightmare from the Superman story.

A quick scan revealed to Shen You that the Zero Armor's ability to fight Superman wasn't solely due to Kryptonite. The armor's design itself had many merits, and traces of alien technology of unknown origin could be seen within it.

With a thought, Shen You revealed the Time-Space Bracelet.

Just like the glasses that Sai Rabbit uses to transform are usually stored in his bracelet, the Time-Space Bracelet also comes with a subspace. Its capacity is limited and can't hold large items like airplanes or tanks, but it can easily hold small things.

With the bracelet's built-in subspace activated, he directly stuffed the entire suit of armor into the bracelet.

Unwittingly, they nipped a future mortal enemy in the bud for Superman and Supergirl.

Anyway, when General Ryan finds out that something is missing, the blame will fall on Waller, and it won't be his problem.

His gaze swept around again, and he was surprised to find a cabinet displaying sparkling green stones, which turned out to be kryptonite.

In the original story, after Krypton exploded, many Kryptonite fragments fell to Earth, which was the main source of Kryptonite that the villains used to fight Superman.

It seems that General Ryan's men also unearthed Kryptonite. They identified it as an alien element, but they may not yet know that it is a superhuman weapon, so they are just collecting it for research purposes.

After thinking for a moment, Shen You casually poured all the kryptonite in the cabinet into the bracelet space.

Stealing one thing is the same as stealing two, and Waller will still take the blame anyway, so why not take it?

Doing good deeds anonymously eliminates another deadly threat. To be fair, Shen You felt it wouldn't be unreasonable for the future Superman to kowtow to him.
