Chapter 86
Gontras
Chapter 86 Gontras
starry sky.
The vast, boundless starry sky, dotted with countless stars in the endless darkness, exudes an alluring and mysterious light.
Knowledge, whether the secrets of the universe or the wisdom of civilization, is considered priceless. From the moment of his birth on the comet, Brainiac was destined to be cursed by his thirst for knowledge. He was obsessed with discovering countless truths and powers in the ocean of knowledge, determined to conquer every inch of its vast territory and explore every unknown corner. That grand stage woven from endless darkness and starlight—that was his true goal, the reason for his birth.
The starry sky, knowledge, conquest.
"One day, the entire universe will be collected and archived, and Brainiac will become the end of all civilizations." Brainiac proudly raised his head, "This mere Earth will be nothing more than the most insignificant one among my thousands of collections."
His goals were grand, his ambitions were enormous, and he spoke with a powerful and resounding voice, displaying the demeanor of a cosmic overlord.
If it weren't for this pitiful, remaining mechanical head saying these words.
Yes, that's right. Now Brainiac is just a head, and Shen You is holding him in his hand.
"As far as a brain is concerned, you're quite dramatic," Shen You said.
By this time, his mobile suit had also flown up from the ground. Although Old Brooks's Iron Legion still had some troops remaining on the ground, Superman and Supergirl were now more than capable of controlling the situation.
Shen You is now to take over the spaceship.
The mobile armor landed next to Shen You, its palm opening and two cables popping out and connecting to the remaining part of Brainiac's head.
Brainiac scoffed. "Want to get inside me? Not so easy. My security protocols apply."
Before he could finish speaking, his tone suddenly changed.
"What are you doing? Get out of here!"
However, he immediately regained his composure and gave up the struggle.
"Do as you please. The connection between me and my original body has been severed; all you can obtain is the data within this body."
His body was blown apart, leaving only his head; the severe damage to his physical structure also impaired his ability to resist the invasion. Even if he wanted to fight back, he was powerless to do so.
But he had a pretty good attitude. It just goes to show the old saying, "Life is like being stalked by a perverted woman; if you can't resist, you have to learn to enjoy it." Anyway, after realizing he couldn't get rid of the intruder, Old Bu simply cut off the connection and lay down on the spot, looking like he wanted to "get it over with quickly."
The hull, now disconnected from its original body, contained little of value. Shen You used it to successfully take control of the spaceship, and then scanned its brain for a noteworthy term.
What is "Gantras"?
"It's a program that's already started," Brainiac's synthesized voice said coldly. "A Vanguard, a Vanguard Sentinel that will only be deployed when the threat level reaches a certain value, a destroyer that will sweep away any resistance forces on the planet's surface."
After a pause, the mechanical eyes on the head glanced out the porthole.
"It's too late. 'Gantras' has arrived. No one can stop it."
Shen You followed his gaze through the porthole and immediately saw the thing as well.
Like a meteorite, it broke through atmospheric resistance, the friction generating flames that swirled and danced around it. On the stage of flame, countless rays of light intertwined to create a magnificent picture, and the unknown alloy at the center of the raging fire glowed as red as a branding iron under the force of air friction. The tip of the flame licked the metal shell, its leading edge like a burning blade, and its blazing tail, like a meteor, transformed into a bright trail of light.
boom!!!
A cataclysmic fall. Although the object in the flames had deliberately slowed down before landing, the sheer weight still ripped apart the streets of the metropolis. The violent tremors spread like an earthquake, collapsing buildings and shattering roads. Countless fragments of rock and sparks flew everywhere, creating a scorching chaos. The howling shockwave shoved streetlights and vehicles into the air before they were pulled heavily back to the ground by gravity.
A meteorite-like crater exploded in the heart of the metropolis, flames spewing from it and licking the solid metal at its center.
Some kind of black, spherical object, as huge as a building, occupied the very center of the burning crater.
The next moment, the indentations on the sphere began to spread out. It resembled the structure of flowing black liquid, which solidified into metal in a short instant. The smooth curves were broken, and the spherical surface shattered, revealing the sharp metal parts hidden beneath.
As the parts unfolded, multiple robotic arm-like devices extended, the friction between the metal and the air producing a sharp roar. Strange gears and mechanical structures were gradually revealed, like a mechanical legion playing an unknown symphony.
A colossal torso rises from within, like the awakening of an ancient behemoth. Surrounding it are intricately interwoven metal plates, like a delicate yet resilient spiderweb. The metal parts fit together perfectly, the black body towering to the heavens. Over a hundred meters tall, it stands amidst the burning city, its streamlined lines and full curves resembling a majestic industrial sculpture.
But it brought not civilization, but destruction.
"Gantras-749, reached target, mission initiated."
A cold light flashed in the machine's eyes.
"Mission objective: Destruction."
In an instant, its arms, chest, and shoulders all emitted a bright light.
Like countless stars streaking across the city streets, their dazzling light illuminated everything.
Then came the explosions, the explosions, the explosions.
Lasers tore through reinforced concrete, reducing skyscrapers to fragments and flames. The shockwaves of the explosions and the roar of collapsing buildings drowned out screams; the trembling, collapsing earth seemed to be trampled by the footsteps of a dragon, and the alien technological barrage was like a devastating downpour.
Two red and blue afterimages flew from afar, piercing through the curtain of thick smoke and flames as they hurtled towards them.
Superman and Supergirl.
Gontras immediately noticed their presence. After all, these two were clearly its number one—or perhaps even its only—threat in the metropolis at present.
It raised its arm, and mechanisms sprang open on its thick arm, producing more than a dozen weapons that stretched out like metal tentacles.
An incredibly dazzling light screen, a dense rain of energy projectiles, and bullets spewing orange-red flames swept over the two of them.
Superman and Supergirl dodged to the left and right, their afterimages flitting about like butterflies amidst the barrage of light pollution on the screen, while simultaneously trying to close the distance between them.
However, as the saying goes, Superman has zero evasion, let alone two novices who haven't even mastered flying yet. Superman crashed head-on into a pulse blast, while Karana took a rocket head-on. Two brilliant bursts of fire exploded in mid-air, followed by two afterimages flying backwards along the same path they came from.
"Just like I said."
"Brynack's head said calmly."
"It's too late. Once Gontras starts, it won't stop. Destruction is inevitable."
Crack.
That was the sound of its head being crushed in Shen You's palm. A lump of scrap metal, sparking with electricity and riddled with broken circuitry, was thrown to the ground.
"Do you need help, sir?" Pal asked.
"No need, you take control of the ship."
Shen You's entire body shone brightly.
"Someone just fully energized me, and I need to exercise to digest it."
