Chapter 89
The Strongest Man in the Galaxy
Chapter 89 The Strongest Man in the Galaxy
"You'd better think carefully about what you're saying."
Lex Luthor sat in his office, facing soldiers who surrounded him with guns.
"Do you know who I am? Do you know who's in charge in this city?!"
"I don't know, Mr. Luther."
The lead soldier pointed his dark gun at Luther's bald head.
"But all I know is that it's definitely not you. You knew about the existence of that alien killing machine a long time ago, but you didn't warn anyone."
Not only that, you also colluded with aliens, giving them the opportunity to invade.
This is a crime against humanity, Mr. Luther. Therefore, I regret to inform you that you are under arrest.
"I was protecting humanity, protecting this planet!" Luther said in a deep voice. "I am the smartest person on this planet, the most brilliant scientific mind!"
I could have completely controlled the situation; I was acting for the good of humanity! If those alien lunatics hadn't stormed into my lab and escalated the conflict...
Summon General Ryan to see me! He'll understand.
"No need."
The sound came from outside the office door. General Ryan appeared in the doorway, his face ashen.
"You've crossed the line, Luther. I've let all your previous rudeness, your refusal to share information, and your self-centered behavior slide, as part of your genius. But now you've crossed the line."
I may hate Superman as much as you do, but before that, I was a soldier, and my duty was to protect humanity. As for you, you've become a despicable criminal, Luthor.
Upon hearing this, Luther sat in his chair and, instead of being angry, laughed.
"So you're going to kick me while I'm down? Yeah, you need a scapegoat. A good general, you're thinking things through. But you should understand, Lex Luthor always has a way out."
His tone suddenly hardened as he spoke, and he pressed a button hidden under his desk, his expression turning ferocious.
"Like this!"
Nothing happened.
Luther paused for a moment.
"impossible!"
He had anticipated this possibility and had therefore prepared accordingly. With a simple press of this button, his alloy robot, which had been waiting in the lower level, would break through the floor and storm in. Equipped with an anti-AI program personally written by Luther, and with its weapons already fully loaded, it was more than capable of helping him break through the encirclement.
So his biggest question now is—
Where is my robot?
Clang!
The floor-to-ceiling window was shattered, and a wrecked alloy robot crashed through the glass and was thrown into the office. Superman floated outside the broken window, still holding half of a severed robotic arm, and smiled, "Looking for this, Mr. Luthor?"
Lex Luthor's face was quite grim.
"Luckily, I listened to a friend's advice. He said you must have an escape plan," Superman laughed. "So I came to take a look. Oh, and I just destroyed the machine gun turret and escape shuttle you set up."
It seems there's no escape this time, Mr. Luther.
"You you you ahhh!!"
Luther was trembling with rage. In his fury, he grabbed a magnificent solid gold trophy from the table and threw it at Superman.
Superman swung his arm and caught the trophy easily, laughing, "Looks like something slipped through your fingers, Mr. Luther."
This enraged Luther even more: "And then you caught it, huh? You think that's all? This is my world, my people! You think you can take these away from me!?"
“No, I never said these belonged to me. Metropolis doesn’t belong to anyone,” Superman said firmly. “You don’t own us, Luthor.”
"'We'? You really consider this your home?"
Superman shrugged. "This is my home. And whether you like it or not, Luthor, it rejected you. So if I were you, I'd surrender willingly. Maybe if you behave well enough."
Superman's expression suddenly changed halfway through his speech, as if he had realized something was wrong, and he immediately shouted, "Step back!"
General Ryan frowned: "He's our prisoner, Superman. We can... What do you want to do!?"
Suddenly, Superman burst into speed, flashed forward, grabbed Luthor without a word, and flew out the window, soaring into the sky before anyone could react.
Moments later, a deafening explosion erupted in the sky. A dazzling burst of flames exploded over the metropolis, illuminating the horizon.
A few seconds later, Superman flew back.
"He self-destructed?" General Ryan frowned.
"It's not him."
Superman shook his head, extending his right hand to hold a bald head. It was Lex Luthor's head, though most of it was disfigured, exposing the crackling, sparking wires beneath.
"robot?"
General Ryan stepped forward and looked at the machine head.
"Where have you been hiding, Luther?"
"A safe place, General."
The robot's eyes flickered, and Lex Luthor's voice came through them intermittently.
"And Superman. I'll consider this a win for now. But don't get too cocky. I'll be back, and I'll take back what's mine."
"I'm waiting, Luther."
Superman shrugged, and with a flick of his five fingers, he crushed the remaining mechanical head into a lump of scrap metal.
"So afterwards, although Luther ran away, General Ryan promised not to make things difficult for me again."
Young reporter Clark Kent sat in the restaurant, adjusted his glasses, and said happily.
Although Shen You wasn't there in person, he could roughly imagine Lai Tu's displeasure. The image of the bald man angrily shouting, "I donated buildings to the Metropolitan Government, I sold guns to the US military," was rather comical.
"Are you sure you don't want to come with us?" Kara asked. "The atmosphere in our shop is really great. There's also a really kind old gentleman there."
Clark smiled and shook his head.
"I'll definitely go and see it another day, but not today. I've been in the Metropolitan for a while now, but it's only today that I'm starting to feel like I belong here."
"Thank you again, Mr. Shen."
"It's alright, even if we're going to express our gratitude, it's a two-way street."
This wasn't just polite talk. Shen You genuinely felt that Da Chao was his perfect partner. The video of his speech on the streets of Metropolis yesterday had been posted online and was now going viral.
As he had guessed correctly, Superman was indeed a walking energy engine; his words, actions, and even his very existence were all ways of charging Ultraman.
He even felt that he was finding Superman more and more pleasing to the eye these days.
"But seriously, I think we should get together more often," Clark said, "even if it's just to have a meal or coffee together."
"Come to my shop, it's in Gotham, the name is 'HISHE', it's on me."
Shen You smiled.
"I have a feeling you'll absolutely love our coffee."
The metropolis, night falls.
An unknown aircraft silently descended, hovering over the outskirts of the city, its streamlined shape illuminated by a fleeting flash of light in the darkness.
The hatch slowly opened, and a figure draped in a cloak appeared. It was a tall woman with a stunning figure and long, fiery hair. She gracefully stepped off the spaceship, her hair like a dazzling flame reflecting the starry sky.
Following closely behind was a tall, burly man with a face full of fat and a body as large as a small mountain. His rugged appearance standing next to the woman naturally brought to mind the vocabulary used to describe a certain classic duo.
Beauty and the Beast.
Following behind was a petite woman, also dressed strangely, who remained silent.
The three stepped out of the cabin, and the hatch immediately closed. The spaceship emitted a faint hum, then its hull became ethereal and vanished like a ghost.
The red-haired woman walked in front, with the burly man following behind. After a few steps, she suddenly seemed to remember something and abruptly stopped. The man couldn't brake in time and bumped into her back.
The man quickly lowered his head: "I'm sorry, Your Highness, I didn't mean it."
"Didn't I tell you not to call me Your Highness when you come to Earth?"
"Yes, Your Highness!"
The woman raised an eyebrow: "Say it again, what am I to you?"
"Mine...mine!" The burly man's eyes darted around. "...It's my brother!"
Anger welled up in the woman's face: "I'm still your grandfather!"
"what?"
The burly man looked bewildered and quickly lowered his voice to ask quietly.
"We've changed the script?"
The woman was so angry she laughed.
"Oh my god. I knew I shouldn't have brought you out."
"That won't do!" the burly man said earnestly. "Protecting His Highness—no, I mean protecting Grandpa—is my duty! Even if it costs me my life, I must protect Grandpa."
"Alright, alright. You'd better shut up and say less for now." The woman waved her hand impatiently. "At least remember why we came here in the first place?"
"Yes, I remember." The burly man nodded obediently. "It was to find a man."
"He's not just any man; he's the strongest man in the galaxy."
The woman smiled, a slight curve to her lips.
"Superman."
