Chapter 92
Dimensional Anomaly
Chapter 92 Dimensional Anomaly
After their trip to the metropolis, Shen You and Kara returned to the coffee shop.
The two went empty-handed, but returned laden with souvenirs: a bunch of local specialties Kara had bought in the metropolis, and a large bag of gifts that her enthusiastic cousin had given them.
Carla skipped and hopped into the kitchen with a frying pan in her hand, looking for the old wizard.
"A gift for me?" The old wizard's eyes widened in surprise.
"Yes, because I know the old man really likes pots." Kara grinned. "They're made by the Lex Group in Metropolis. Although I've heard their president is a jerk, their pots are still highly praised. So I thought I'd bring one for the old man to try."
The old wizard was overjoyed and couldn't put down the new pot. He immediately went to the kitchen to try it out.
Kara then ran downstairs to see Astra.
As an anti-Kryptonian prisoner, Astra actually lived a fairly comfortable life. She lacked nothing in terms of food and clothing, and there was even a projector TV hanging outside her cell to pass the time.
If I had to pinpoint the worst part, it would be that the old wizard always liked to use her to test his ingenious new recipes.
There's no way around it; every time the old man comes up with some new, incomprehensible dish that's instinctively repulsive, the two aliens in the shop, one big and one small, either remember they forgot to bring in the laundry or forgot to feed the cat, and they vanish in a flash at super speed.
So the old wizard naturally thought of the perfect candidate imprisoned underground.
There was nothing she could do; after all, she was a defeated general. She could only grit her teeth and silently endure this humiliation.
However, to her surprise, at first those bizarre and indescribable culinary creations were hard for her to swallow and made her feel nauseous, but after a while, she actually started to find them delicious.
It's actually kind of delicious?
Sometimes, if the old man didn't come for two or three days in a row, she would even feel a little disappointed. Her stomach felt empty, as if something was missing.
"Auntie, I'm back!" Kara ran down excitedly. "Look what I brought you!"
A small, gold trophy. Aunt Atlas squinted at it and saw a line of small writing on it.
"The best grandma in the world?"
"Since this is all we have left in the shop, you'll have to make do with this. Okay, I'm going to the kitchen to help Grandpa Wizard now. I'll come see you again when I have time~"
As he spoke, he suddenly vanished down the stairs.
Under the red sun, Atlas looked at Kara, who had run away in less than a minute after coming down, and then at the "best grandma in the world" left aside, and couldn't help but sigh.
Suddenly, I felt nostalgic, remembering how close little Kara and I were. Every time she came, I would cling to her, wanting her to hold me and tell me stories.
Time has passed, and now she's turned into such a heartless little darling.
"That little magical princess is very nice, really very nice."
The old wizard stroked his long beard and said to Shen You. The "magical princess" naturally referred to Raven; he was very pleased with his youngest daughter, Sangu.
During Shen You and his group's trip to the Metropolis, Raven still came to the shop every day to learn from the old wizard. She was born with astonishingly powerful magic, but she needed an expert to teach her how to control it.
"Sangoku may be a scoundrel, but his daughter is really good." The old wizard smiled as he mentioned this. "She's well-behaved, obedient, and sensible. She does whatever you ask her to do, and she has a strong ability to understand."
Most importantly, she has a kind heart. It's ironic that such a terrifying, multifaceted demonic being possesses a purer and kinder heart than over 90% of the humans in the world today.
"It sounds like someone's thinking about choosing an heir again?" Shen You said.
"Yes, of course I want to. It's a pity," the old wizard sighed. "I've spent countless years searching for a suitable successor, but the few I've truly chosen are either from other races or are daughters of demons."
"Be patient, give it some time." Shen You smiled and patted the old man's shoulder. "You'll find it."
"I hope so," the old man said, pursing his lips.
After dinner, the old wizard waved his finger, like a conductor. Suddenly, all the dishes on the table rose into the air and floated towards the kitchen, following his direction.
The old wizard went inside to tidy up, and the enchanted rag diligently wiped the table. Kara played with Stryker for five minutes, then obediently went to study with her textbooks. Shen You returned to his laboratory, intending to spend the evening there.
However, just ten minutes after sitting down, a "beep beep" notification sound came from the system next to me.
"Negative phase fluctuations?" Shen You casually swiped open the map and glanced at it.
"No, sir, it's a reaction from the Time-Space Bracelet," Pal replied. "Abnormal spatial fluctuations, and the readings are quite unique."
The bracelet's monitoring coverage has expanded significantly with continuous charging. Initially limited to Gotham City, it now extends to other states and cities.
"This reading."
Shen You cut it open and was secretly surprised.
"Spacetime fluctuations, such strong spatial energy, is this a dimensional rupture?" Shen You exclaimed in astonishment.
Similar situations are not unheard of in the Land of Light. The first thing that came to Shen You's mind was something like the dimensional shattering that occurred when the extradimensional being Yapool appeared, or the effect of the Earth Defense Force firing the dimensional energy cannon D4 after stealing Yapool's technology in the Zeta TV series.
Shen You's mind quickly became active.
Some kind of energy that can transcend dimensions?
If it could be put to use, could it become the key to breaking through the multiverse barrier and returning to one's own universe?
"No specific news reports have been found. But the address is marked on the Time-Traveling Bracelet. Should we go and check it out in person?" Pal asked.
"Of course, give me the coordinates."
Shen You zoomed in on the address and glanced at it.
The coordinates are located in "Central City".
Shen You pondered for a moment.
Central City, like Metropolis and Gotham, is one of the major fictional cities in the DC Universe. And just as Metropolis has Superman and Gotham has Batman, people often associate Central City with the red-clad runners that are its city's signature.
The Flash.
The fastest man in the world—and that's definitely a compliment. He can easily exceed the speed of light, he's a walking, talking time machine for the Justice League, and a favorite reboot sacrifice for DC writers in major events. In Western popular culture, the very existence of this comic book character is almost synonymous with the definition of "fast."
And if we connect it to the background of this Justice League elder, it's easy for Shen You to make connections with that powerful spacetime energy fluctuation.
The source of the Flash's superpowers, the thing that propels the entire DC multiverse forward, is the supernatural law that supposedly overrides all physical laws: the Speed Force.
This made Shen You even more expectant.
As everyone knows, the Speed Force is the number one time travel device in the DC Universe. Whether it's jumping between timelines, traveling through the multiverse, or creating new timelines, the Speed Force is an essential tool for both home and travel.
If we could conduct a scientific and systematic study of how the Speed Force works and its laws, it might actually help him find his way home.
"Par, devise a flight plan to Central City." Shen You was eager to try. "Let's go check it out tonight."
