Chapter 18: No Potions Class Targeted?
ding ding ding-
The next morning at eight o'clock, Andy's alarm clock rang on time.
"Hmm..."
Andy didn't even open his eyes; he simply turned off the alarm and prepared to go back to sleep.
ding ding ding-
The alarm clock kept ringing, and Andy grabbed it, glancing at it with half-closed eyes.
"Hmm? Can't turn it off?"
Andy groggily sat up in bed, ready to see what was going on.
The alarm clock suddenly stopped ringing.
Andy looked around and realized that this was no longer his bedroom at home, but a male dormitory in Ravenclaw.
This alarm clock is a magical item; its on/off switch is just for show. The alarm clock will only stop ringing when Andy gets up.
"ha--"
Andy yawned deeply, reluctantly got out of bed, put on his slippers, and went to the bathroom to wash up.
After spending five minutes getting ready, Andy returned to his dorm room and found that his three roommates were still sleeping in.
"Terry, Michael, Anthony! Get up! It's already past eight o'clock, and we have class at nine in the morning."
Having woken up his roommates, Andy felt he had done more than enough.
Without caring what happened next, Andy changed into his Hogwarts uniform, picked up his textbooks, and left the dormitory.
The auditorium is on the first floor, and the Potions classroom is in the basement, so they're basically on the same route.
Seeing that there was still plenty of time, Andy decided to familiarize himself with the staircases of Hogwarts first.
After all, I'll be living here for the next seven years, so I can't possibly not even know where I am, right?
Walking down the stairs, and with the help of asking the ghosts for directions, Andy reached the auditorium on the first floor in about ten minutes.
When Andy arrived at Ravenclaw's long table, he found that Hermione had not only arrived long ago, but had also finished breakfast and was now flipping through the book "Potions and Magic," doing her final review.
That's right! What's a preview for other young wizards is a review for Hermione.
That's really hard work!
Andy sat down next to Hermione with practiced ease, took a bite of a pumpkin pie, and greeted her, "Good morning!"
"Good morning!" Hermione replied while reading.
"Didn't you already memorize the textbook?" Andy asked casually, "Why are you up so early studying?"
"That's right!"
Hermione looked at Andy seriously. "The first class is about to start, and I think we should review the textbook again."
Andy actually understands Hermione's learning style quite well.
A model student!
However, this learning method is not very effective in the magical world.
"Okay, good luck then!" Andy continued eating.
Hermione glanced at Andy. "Aren't you going to do your homework?"
"I read the textbook once before starting school."
After swallowing his food, Andy said, "I'm a hands-on person. Instead of reading textbooks, I'd rather try brewing a potion myself."
Hermione immediately pressed on with curiosity, "So, did you succeed?"
"My father is roasted to death!" Andy said with an expression that seemed perfectly natural.
After finishing breakfast, Andy sat in a chair, lost in thought.
Although he had been awake for a while, Andy was still very sleepy.
It was the same at home before; it would take Andy about half an hour to recover.
At 8:40, Andy's three roommates arrived at the auditorium.
They originally intended to sit with Andy, but upon seeing Andy and Hermione sitting together, the three boys immediately exchanged knowing, knowing smiles.
Andy waved to them, showing no intention of going over.
No brat is as interesting as a little girl, right?
Ten minutes later, Hermione closed her book, stood up, and said to Andy, "Class starts in ten minutes. Are you going to stand here daydreaming?"
……
The Potions classroom was in the castle's basement, which was much colder and darker than the main building. However, since it was September, the basement actually felt much cooler.
As Andy entered the classroom, he looked around.
The walls were dark, and glass jars lined the walls, containing creepy animal specimens that were preserved inside.
On the long wooden table were placed bronze balances and various bottles and jars containing ingredients, with more than twenty crucibles standing between the tables. In the corner was a stone basin, presumably for washing hands.
Andy and Hermione found a place to sit down.
At nine o'clock sharp, Snape walked into the classroom wearing a large black cloak. He strode to the podium, squinted as he looked around, picked up the roster and began to call attendance.
"You have come here to learn the intricate science and rigorous process of potion preparation."
Snape's voice was barely louder than a whisper, but everyone heard every word he said.
"Since there are no silly wands waving around here, many of you won't believe this is magic."
"I don't expect you to truly appreciate the wonderful feeling of a large pot simmering slowly over a low flame, emitting white smoke and a delicate fragrance. You won't truly understand the mysterious magic of the fluid that flows into people's veins, making them feel excited and their will be clouded."
"I can teach you how to increase your reputation, cultivate honor, and even stop death—but there's one condition: you can't be the stupid fools I often encounter."
After Snape finished his opening remarks, the classroom fell completely silent.
"Collins!" Snape suddenly called out.
Andy: "?"
"If I asked you to find me a dung heap, where would you look for it?" Snape asked.
Are you trying to get something for free?
"Uh... if you give me some Galleons, I can go to Diagon Alley and buy one for you."
They might even be able to take the opportunity to make a quick buck.
Andy continued, "If you don't give me the money, I can take it out of the goat's stomach. But first, you have to find me a goat."
Snape snorted coldly and said in a sinister tone, "You don't need to waste time answering questions."
"What would happen if I added porcupine quills to the broth while brewing medicine for scabies without turning off the heat?"
Andy wanted to be cheeky again, but after catching Snape's cold gaze, he obediently replied, "The potion will dissolve the cauldron, emitting a sour, green smoke and a sharp hissing sound. The spilled potion is corrosive; it will cause a dense rash of red, swollen boils to appear on the skin."
Snape's gaze swept over the others. "Why didn't you write all this down? This is the most common mistake you make when brewing medicine for scabies!"
The classroom was suddenly filled with the soft scratching sound of quills rubbing against parchment.
Snape said, "Today, I will teach you a simple medicine to treat scabies."
As Snape spoke, he waved his wand, and the specific steps for brewing the scabies potion immediately appeared on the blackboard.
