Chapter 34
My First Experience with Black Magic
Chapter 34 My First Experience with Black Magic
"That won't do!"
Hogsmeade is only open to young wizards in their third year and above on Saturdays, so coming on a Thursday would be too obvious.
Andy found the candy store owner, Mr. Froome.
After buying some candy, Andy casually asked, "Sir, if I come on Thursday, the professor shouldn't catch me, right?"
"certainly!"
Mr. Froome blinked. "For example, I wouldn't just tell anyone that a first-year wizard came to my shop."
Andy: "..."
"Is it that obvious?" Andy asked, somewhat puzzled.
Mr. Froome didn't say anything. He first gestured with his hand to indicate Andy's height, and then pointed to the other people in the store.
Okay, so it turns out my height gave me away.
Andy's height is considered outstanding among young wizards of the same age, but the difference is obvious when compared with those in higher grades.
"Thank you!" Andy said, then left Bee Duke Candy House.
Andy is here today to scout out the location.
September 19th is Hermione's birthday, and Andy plans to bring the little witch over for a visit.
Since it was a date with a girl, Andy naturally wanted to do some research beforehand to avoid being completely clueless about the place.
Losing face is a small matter; getting caught by the professor is the real problem.
Hogsmeade is the only village in all of England entirely inhabited by wizards, and its architecture is imbued with a strong wizarding atmosphere. Not only do many wizards live here, but many also run shops.
Andy wandered around.
The village was small, and Andy quickly figured out the map.
Whether it's going on a date, having fun, or running away after being captured, Andy can find a route in the shortest amount of time.
"Hi, Andy."
Hearing the voice, Andy turned around and looked. "Hi! George, and Fred too."
"We're still thinking..."
"When will I finally run into you here?"
"I didn't expect you to be so bold."
"He's only been at Hogwarts for less than a week and he dares to sneak off to Hogsmeade."
George and Fred each say a sentence; that's the characteristic of their way of speaking.
"I just came out for a stroll because I was bored," Andy said casually.
"Are you bored?"
"We thought you were on a date."
"Or perhaps in the library."
"Did you come out alone? Where's your girlfriend?"
George and Fred each said a sentence.
"I'll check out the route first, and then bring her over in a few days." Andy isn't a real child; she wouldn't blush and panic just because of a few teasing remarks.
Fred gave a thumbs up. "You're really good at this. You even know to prepare in advance."
George nodded. "If only Ron were as smart as you."
"Uh... is he alright?" Andy asked.
Fred shrugged. "He and Harry haven't left their dorm all day; we even brought him breakfast."
How miserable!
"Alright, we're off now. Take your time exploring, but be careful not to get caught by the professor." George waved and left with Fred.
Having obtained the map of Hogsmeade, Andy secretly went to the Shrieking Shack alone.
Legend has it that this is the scariest haunted place in all of Britain.
However, Andy always believed that the most haunted place in Britain should be Hogwarts—because at least dozens of ghosts live there.
Andy circled the screaming shack and realized that it was impossible to enter from the outside.
It doesn't even have windows, let alone a door.
Fortunately, there was no one around, so Andy could do his own thing without worry.
Besides scouting the area beforehand, Andy also had another personal matter to attend to when he came to Hogsmeade today.
That was learning the first black magic in my life.
This morning, while reading in the library, Andy accidentally discovered a piece of dark magic in one of the books.
The book is a proper book; it introduces the theory of magic.
However, when introducing the theory of magic, the author of this book gave an example of black magic.
The book provides a very detailed explanation, including the spells, gestures, emotions and mindset involved in casting spells, and even the theory of magic.
With these, Andy could teach himself this dark magic.
Andy had always been curious as to why the system separated spells from dark magic.
Isn't black magic a curse?
"Perhaps today, we can begin to uncover this secret."
Andy felt a surge of excitement.
After carefully reading the book on magical theory to make sure he had grasped the key points and hadn't missed anything, Andy used a shrinking charm to shrink the book and put it in the pocket of his wizard's robe.
Andy gripped his wand, his expression unconsciously tensing up.
"Disease strikes!"
Andy pointed his wand at a weed that was more than half a person tall, and as he uttered the spell, a cloud of black and red mist slowly rose from beneath the weed.
The weeds withered rapidly at a visible speed, and the withered yellow leaves and stems were covered with dense red pustules, which looked extremely disgusting.
Andy didn't pay attention to the effects of the dark magic; instead, he focused on his mindset and the changes in his body during the casting of the spell.
"Hmm...no physical changes, and my mindset seems healthy too..."
"So, this is black magic?" Andy thought to himself.
The distinction between white magic and black magic has never been about the destructive power of the magic. White magic also has many powerful spells that are no less effective than black magic.
The definition of black magic is actually whether the effectiveness of the magic is based on the subjective malice of the caster.
Black magic is forbidden because it is based on the evil side of human nature. When your black magic is powerful enough, it means that your heart is evil enough.
What makes black magic so terrifying is that evil can grow at an astonishing rate.
After all, it's hard to learn to be good, but it's easy to learn to be bad.
Black magic often becomes more effective with use, and the caster's malice also grows stronger; the two reinforce each other.
As Andy recalled the magical theories mentioned in the book and reflected on the emotions he used when casting spells, he gained a basic understanding of dark magic.
"call--"
Let's call it a day!
Andy did not intend to continue trying because he did not yet have the foundation to learn dark magic.
If the [Mind] attribute applies to all magic, then the [Willpower] attribute, besides being able to resist some special types of magic, is also one of the essential attributes for learning dark magic.
A strong mind and will can resist the invasion of dark magic.
And Andy's willpower... is a pitiful 2 points.
Andy recalled the contents of the book: I think the special thing about black magic is not its great power, but its in-depth study of forbidden areas such as life and soul.
Black magic is indeed evil, but we cannot ignore its merits just because it is evil.
