The Development and Research of Ancient Witchcraft
Chapter 3 The Development and Research of Ancient Witchcraft
A Study on the Development of Ancient Witchcraft
Andy pulled the book from the shelf and flipped to the part he had read the night before to continue reading.
The Collins family is not an ancient or prestigious magical family. According to the family genealogy, the earliest magician in the family appeared two centuries ago.
According to current understanding, the Collins family can be considered a half-blood wizarding family.
Therefore, the family didn't have many magic books; the vast majority were common books that could be bought in bookstores. The few rare copies were obtained by their ancestors from their friends.
Because the little wizard's magic is unstable, the family strictly forbids Andy from reading books related to spellcasting, in order to prevent Andy from accidentally casting spells, losing control of them, or causing harm to himself.
Those magic books were all enchanted; if Andy touched them, an alarm would go off in the house.
"It really is like guarding against thieves," Andy muttered habitually, though his mind was already completely absorbed in the contents of the magic book.
Early human wizards did not have wands, making spellcasting difficult. Many wizards only knew one or two spells. If they were not skilled in spellcasting or lost control of their emotions, it could even lead to magical outbursts.
"So...emotional control is important for spellcasting?"
"Or perhaps...the mind and will?"
Andy turned his gaze to the side, and under the strong influence of his will, the quill pen on the desk slowly flew up.
Andy was already skilled at doing this several years ago.
At first, Andy thought he was one of those rare magical geniuses who, once he learned to cast spells, could trample Voldemort underfoot and punch Dumbledore.
However, this idea was ultimately ridiculed by her mother, Helen.
The key reason why Andy can cast simple spells is that the little wizard's magic power is not stable enough.
As Andy grew older, he found his "staffless spellcasting" becoming increasingly difficult. Every time he concentrated on casting a spell, he experienced a strong sense of stagnation.
However, Andy has been consciously honing his "staffless spellcasting" skills, even though it has become increasingly difficult.
According to Helen, this sense of stagnation is mainly because Andy's magic has gradually stabilized, and his emotions are not strong enough when casting spells.
Once Andy has a magic wand, casting spells will become much easier.
Andy found the same answer in the book.
"So, is this how the Obscurials were born?"
In the book "A Study on the Development of Ancient Witchcraft", there is a whole chapter dedicated to the discussion of the Obscurus.
According to the book, when a wizard child is forced to suppress their magic due to physical or psychological abuse, they experience extreme emotional distress, which creates a dark parasitic magical power called "Obscuran".
When an acquiescent reaches an emotional and mental breakdown, they lose control of their body and release their acquiescence.
The book says that the power of the Obscurus is extremely strong and uncontrollable.
"So, emotions—or rather, the power of the mind—can be fused with magic to make it even stronger?"
However, according to the book "The Study and Development of Ancient Wizardry", Obscurations can only be born in wizards under the age of ten, and they do not live past the age of ten.
When a young wizard is over ten years old, and the magic within him becomes relatively stable, even the strongest emotions will no longer give rise to silence.
"The fusion of mental power and magic could be a research topic for the future."
The current system doesn't seem to help Andy at all, but the data on it can help him better understand his own abilities.
On the right side of the system data, there are five attributes: magic, soul, mind, thought, and will.
Leaving aside magic and soul for the moment, according to the system's classification, mind, thought, and will are clearly three different powers.
"Mind aside, willpower—do you mean defense against certain spells? Like the Cruciatus Curse and the Imperius Curse?"
Andy continued flipping through the book.
Andy had already read the chapter about Mo Mo Ran several times. After confirming that he hadn't missed any information, Andy continued reading the following content.
Half an hour later, Andy closed the book.
"Trash book!"
Ancient magic and modern magic are completely different things, and the explanation of ancient magic in this book is just a 'history' introduction, without any substantial content.
Yes! This is actually a history book and has nothing to do with magic.
"Someone's here?"
Andy looked out the window, wanting to relax his eyes, but saw a small black dot appear on the distant mountain. The dot was rapidly approaching his home and gradually became clearer.
"My God, it's him again!" Andy said with a worried look on his face.
Meeting Ron Weasley was definitely a major blunder in Andy's future planning.
The Weasleys and Collins are separated by four mountains. Andy used to visit his neighbors on a children's version of a flying broomstick, and the Weasleys were no exception.
What Andy didn't expect was that the Weasleys had a kid the same age as him.
Well, Andy was initially a little surprised, after all, Ron is a character from the original Harry Potter books, and one of the main trio.
Ron was quite likable in the first movie, especially for his self-sacrifice in the chess game.
However, once Andy got to know Ron—that is, after exchanging a few words—Andy wished he had never met him at all.
Because the two sides have absolutely nothing in common!
Andy wanted to talk to Ron about magic, after all, the Weasleys were a prestigious wizarding family with a long and distinguished history—although they were now in decline, they would never sell the spellbooks they had collected.
Ron always wanted to talk to Andy about Quidditch, or just to brag about his wildest ideas.
If Andy were truly eleven years old, he wouldn't mind becoming friends with Ron, but Andy isn't actually eleven.
In the short time it took to recall those memories, Ron had already landed in front of Collins' house on his children's flying broom.
"Andy!" Ron looked up and waved to Andy, who was standing in front of the window.
"Wait a moment, I'll come downstairs and open the door for you."
After putting the book back on the shelf, Andy sighed and ran downstairs.
In his previous life, Andy was a Muggle, which is why he has an almost fanatical passion for magic.
But Ron is clearly not like that.
He was just an ordinary child from the magical world.
Just like Andy's past life, everyone knows that technology is amazing, but studying math and physics is also a huge torment.
However, perhaps it is precisely because Ron was born in the wizarding world that he only has Andy as his only wizard friend of the same age.
