Chapter 47
Is your S.H.I.E.L.D. security made of cheese?
The party at Stark Mansion was still boisterous, but the atmosphere in the heart of the mansion was somewhat subtly different.
On the projection screen, Hammer appeared on stage like a male peacock courting a mate, making a comical dance entrance.
Although the background music was rousing, his somewhat clumsy physical movements revealed a determination to embarrass the audience to death.
"Good heavens, is he dancing? Or is his hemorrhoids acting up again?"
Tony took a sip of champagne, his smile behind his sunglasses laced with sarcasm.
"Jarvis, turn the volume down, I'm afraid my ears will miscarry."
Rhodes carried a silver briefcase, his eyes fixed on the rows of steel soldiers on the screen.
The paint scheme of the army, navy, and air force, shoulder-fired artillery, and heavy armor plates.
"Choose Hammer Industries, and everyone can be Iron Man!"
"Peace doesn't need to be entrusted to an arrogant drunkard!"
As Hammer's voice fell, Tony paused, his gaze falling on the steel soldiers.
On the chests of those steel soldiers lay the reactor core he knew so well.
"Tony, I didn't hand over the Mark 5 to the military, those steel soldiers..."
Tony raised his hand to interrupt, adding a bio-lock to the Mark 5.
Even if the military wanted to research it, it would trigger a self-destruct mechanism.
There is only one person he can think of who could create such a steel soldier.
Ivan!
Tony's gaze swept across the room, finally settling on Coulson in the corner.
"Phil, I have some inside information, I wonder if you'd like to hear it?"
Li Ang walked up to Coulson and patted him on the shoulder.
Coulson was startled, but before he could catch his breath, he noticed that everyone around him was staring at him.
"If it's about which donut shop is having a sale, I think I'll skip that."
He maintained his professional fake smile.
"No donuts, but there is news about an escaped convict."
Li Ang smiled and pointed at the screen, "How's that big Russian guy who played with the whip doing in prison lately? I heard it's not easy to find soap there."
"Ivan Vanko?" Coulson was taken aback. "Although he has some scientific research skills, he's just an ordinary person. He was imprisoned after that incident."
"Intelligence indicates... he died three days ago in an explosion triggered by a prison brawl?"
"Tsk tsk tsk."
Li Ang shook his finger, his face clearly saying "You're too naive."
"Died in an explosion? Such a classic escape plot, doesn't S.H.I.E.L.D. even vet it?"
Coulson's smile froze.
The surrounding air temperature dropped a few degrees.
Tony got up and walked over, while Rod gripped the handle of the briefcase tightly.
"You mean he's not dead?" Tony's voice turned somber.
"Not only did he not die, but it looks like he found a great new boss."
Li Ang pointed to Hammer on the screen, who was talking animatedly, "Like this idiot who desperately needs technical support."
Coulson felt a sudden chill run down his spine.
If what Leon says is true, then S.H.I.E.L.D. is a complete joke!
"Impossible...that death report has the signatures of both the warden and the medical examiner!"
Although Coulson verbally refuted him, his hands were already flying across the communicator.
three minutes.
In just three minutes.
"The warden's account received a large sum of money from a shell company a week ago..."
"The deceased's dental records don't match Ivan's..."
Coulson wiped the sweat from his brow, his eyes wide with shock. "That corpse was a scapegoat! Ivan Vanko was switched!"
"Bingo!" Leon snapped his fingers. "SHIELD's security is like cheese, full of holes."
Tony's face turned extremely ugly.
That madman didn't die, and he's currently at Hammer Industries.
"Now, to demonstrate our sincerity, I will hand over control of these steel soldiers to military representatives!"
A sound came from a screen in the distance.
Hammer waved his hands, making a "please" gesture, and pointed to the high-ranking military officials below the stage.
However, the indicator lights on the heads of those steel soldiers, which had been standing still, suddenly flashed.
The green light that originally represented standby mode instantly turned into a glaring, scarlet crimson!
ka ka ka-
A sickening metallic scraping sound rang out.
On the stage, thirty army-type mechs, ten navy-type mechs, and eight air force-type mechs hovering in the air all turned their cannons in the same direction at the same time.
It was aimed at the audience below the stage!
"Hey! What's going on? Who's messing with the control panel?!"
Hammer panicked, frantically pounding on the remote control in his hand. "It's not time for the demonstration yet! Stop! Stop right now!"
sizzle-
The image on the large screen at the press conference suddenly distorted.
Hammer's panicked face disappeared, replaced by a ferocious face with a toothpick in his mouth.
Ivan Vanko.
He sat at a control panel filled with monitors, with several technicians in Hammer Industries uniforms lying in pools of blood in the background.
"Tony Stark..."
The deep Russian accent was broadcast live globally, reaching every corner of the world.
"Get out here!"
Ivan grinned at the camera, his gold teeth looking particularly sinister in the dim light. "We need to continue the game from that day."
"If you don't come out, I'll turn everyone here into corpses."
The voice just fell.
boom!
In the background of the screen, a steel soldier raises his arm and shoots a high-ranking military officer dead.
The screams exploded through the live broadcast.
What was originally a celebratory expo site instantly turned into a scene of carnage.
The crowd scattered like startled ants, while the steel soldiers began indiscriminately destroying everything around them.
"Fuck!"
Tony crushed the wine glass in his hand, but he felt nothing.
"I'm not taking the blame for this either. It was that idiot Hammer who brought the wolf into the house."
Although he said that, Tony acted faster than anyone else.
He lightly tapped the reactor on his chest with his finger, and a silver light quickly spread throughout his body.
"Li, it looks like tonight's party will have to end early."
Tony frowned, his displeasure evident in his expression.
"Go on, don't keep that whip-wielder waiting too long."
Li Ang did not get up, remaining in a spectator's posture.
"By the way, remember to shoot the air intake of the Air Force version; that's its weak point."
"Do you even need to tell me? Nobody knows more about battle armor than me!"
Tony snorted and his thrusters blasted out, the powerful force transforming him into a missile that shot through the roof of the mansion.
"Jarvis! Time to get to work!"
"Rhodes! Stop looking! You dare call that toy gun a war machine?"
Tony's voice, processed by his armor, carried a metallic quality: "Keep up! I'll show you what real firepower coverage is!"
"Damn it! Wait for me!"
Rod hurriedly threw the suitcase on the ground and stepped on it.
Click!Click!
The red and silver armor plates folded and wrapped quickly, and a few seconds later, Mark 5 was fully dressed.
While not as flashy as the Symbiote Armor, it's still enough to qualify Rhodes for participation in the war.
"Wait... what's that?"
Just as Rod was preparing to take off, he witnessed a scene that sent chills down his spine.
Behind Tony's flight path, a dozen or so points of light suddenly lit up in the night sky.
The helipad on the top floor of Stark Tower opened automatically, and more than a dozen steel armored vehicles of various designs roared out.
"Iron Legion, all troops, attack!"
