Chapter 41
Mr. A's Party
Chapter 41 Mr. A's Party
Hobart didn't know what Hugh and Fors had talked about, but after they reunited, Hobart felt that Miss "The Magician" was much less hostile towards him.
Guided by the servants, the three met Viscount Grelint.
Grynt looked at Hobart: "Haven't we met somewhere before?"
"Yes, Viscount," Hobart said with a smile. "I had the pleasure of seeing your brilliance on the dance floor at a banquet."
Christine was, after all, a brigadier general, so of course she would attend or host some banquets. Hobert had met Viscount Grelint at these banquets a few times.
However, one was a nobleman and the other was a descendant of a brigadier general, so they had no connection whatsoever and were only vaguely familiar with each other.
Grelint chuckled and said, "I'll definitely notice you at the next banquet."
Then he asked, "You, you're also...?"
Hobart smiled and said, "That's right, I'm also a fan of the occult."
Grynt gave an "I understand" smile.
Just then, the butler came to the door and said, "Young Master, Miss Audrey has arrived."
Gretel personally greeted her at the door: "My dear Audrey, you are beautiful in a different way every time I see you."
Wearing a hood and leather boots, Audrey entered the room: "Grelint, the way you praise others is starting to sound more and more like how elders praise people."
"Oh, Mr. Hobart, I didn't expect to see you here."
Hobart stepped forward and greeted her, "Hello, Miss Audrey."
He explained, "I just finished a commission with Hugh, and we're going to the party together."
Suddenly, Grelint exclaimed, "I remember now! You're the lawyer who got Miss Hugh bailed out in just one day!"
Audrey smiled and shook her head: "Viscount, your memory is just like that of your elders."
Everyone burst into laughter.
After a brief exchange of pleasantries, the five young people went together to attend the party organized by Mr. A.
This gathering wasn't as safe as a mercenary club, so Hobert borrowed a hood from Grynt and went into the room wearing it.
Audrey and Gretel came to buy potion recipes, but unfortunately they were unsuccessful, as no one here sold the recipes for "The Audience" and "The Apothecary".
Hobart came here mainly to check on the quality of the exceptional materials being traded here.
Comparatively speaking, the extraordinary materials traded at the gatherings organized by the Mercenary Club are of a higher level, even including Sequence 5 extraordinary materials, while the materials traded here are mainly Sequence 8 and Sequence 9 extraordinary materials.
Of course, at such a distrustful gathering, any good stuff is usually traded privately.
At that moment, a transaction message read aloud by the waiter caught Hobart's attention.
The waiter said, "A gentleman wants to find a way to overcome his past self!"
One of the party attendees chuckled twice: "Perhaps strangling yourself is the best way to conquer yourself!"
These words drew laughter from many people.
However, when Mr. A gave them a cold look, the laughing people felt as if they had fallen into an ice cave and immediately stopped laughing.
Once order was restored, the waiter continued reading out other transaction information.
Hobert stroked his chin: Overcoming your past self, that's interesting.
He beckoned the waiter over: "I wish to make a deal with the gentleman who is looking for a way to 'conquer himself'."
Hugh and Audrey were slightly taken aback. They had also heard the transaction information and felt the mystery of the extraordinary world. Could there really be a way to defeat their past selves?
Hobart's reaction surprised them slightly. Did this lawyer know how to overcome his past self?
Hugh quickly reminded Hobart, "This isn't a game. If you cheat the other party members, you'll be punished by Mr. A!"
Hobart smiled helplessly: "Am I really that unreliable in your eyes?" As he spoke, he glanced meaningfully at Fors.
Hugh was slightly taken aback. Yesterday, Hobert had already shown his very reliable side. Yes, Fors had been telling me not to trust him, and I had actually started to lose faith in him. He was an extraordinary being who could even perform ritual magic.
Suddenly, Audrey said, "I hope to be a listener to this deal."
Hobert had left a deep impression on her regarding Hugh's case, and more importantly, she was curious about how to overcome herself.
Good heavens, that was me in the past!
How can we defeat it?
Hobart said to the waiter, "Please convey my companion's wishes."
The waiter agreed and walked towards a room with a closed door. After a short while, the waiter returned and said, "The gentleman has agreed to your request. Please follow me."
Hobert walked in front, followed closely by Audrey, Hugh, and Gretel, who were also curious about how to overcome their past selves.
Fors muttered, "You think you know everything?" and then followed after her.
The gathering venue has many enclosed small rooms, designed to facilitate one-on-one transactions among attendees.
The person in the room who was making the transaction clearly hadn't expected so many onlookers. His first reaction was to stand up and run away, but after seeing that the waiter and the others didn't seem to have any ill intentions, he chuckled awkwardly and said, "This reminds me of a surgical operation I saw before. There was only one patient on the bed, but so many people were watching."
Hobart smiled and said, "I'm sorry, your question is quite complex, and we may need to do some necessary discussions."
The other person was wearing a hood, so only his chin was visible, but his voice sounded quite young: "Indeed, this problem is not easy to solve. I've attended several gatherings, but I haven't gotten the answer I'm looking for. I hope you won't disappoint me."
Hobart nodded. "Could you elaborate? Why do we need to overcome ourselves? What aspect of ourselves do we need to overcome?"
He shrugged: "We all know that it's impossible for a person to go back in time and defeat their former self; there's no point in doing so."
"However, from the perspective of mysticism, there are many interpretations of overcoming one's past self. For example, overcoming a certain psychological shadow from one's past self is also a form of overcoming one's past self."
Hugh and Grylint didn't quite understand Hobart's meaning, but Audrey and Fors seemed to understand something, and they both had thoughtful expressions under their hoods.
The other person immediately straightened their back: "You look very professional, which makes me look forward to your answer."
He continued, "There was a gentleman who committed many crimes when he was young, but one day, divine guidance made him realize his conscience."
"From then on, he bid farewell to his life of murder and arson, and became a priest, constantly spreading divine light and helping many people overcome difficulties."
"But his younger self has been tormenting him, preventing him from achieving ultimate redemption, so he desperately wants to defeat his past self."
Hobart's first thought was: The giant bishop of the Church of Mother Earth?
Please vote for me!
