Chapter 47
The New Strongest
Chapter 47 The New Strongest
Elliott prostrated himself on the ground and said, "Mysterious and great being, thank you for your guidance, which allowed me to obtain the extraordinary characteristics of the 'Barbarian'."
"Thank you for reminding me, which prevented me from getting lost in greed."
"Thank you for your help in getting rid of my pursuers."
"Your loyal servant wishes to offer this necklace as a sacrifice to express my heartfelt gratitude."
After he repeated it three times, the image of "the great being on the throne" finally appeared in his mind.
The great being spoke in a solemn voice: "I am not interested in your offerings."
The main problem is that it requires too much spiritual energy; if the offering isn't successfully delivered to the "Land of Chaos," then the whole thing will be a disaster.
Elliott's voice became even more humble: "Great being, I know this offering is crude in your eyes, but it is my most valuable possession. I really don't know what kind of offering can express my gratitude."
After a second or two, the solemn voice said, "Tomorrow night, prepare a simple altar. Draw this pattern in the center of the altar, light three candles using the 'dualistic' method, and burn spiritually potent herbs. The prayer is..."
Elliott breathed a sigh of relief; the great being was finally asking for his sacrifice!
The solemn voice said again, "From now on you may call me 'The Creator'!"
"Furthermore, in this extraordinary world, you must always learn to exercise restraint!"
As the sound faded and the majestic throne vanished from his mind, Elliott was overwhelmed with emotion. It seemed that his heartfelt gratitude had moved this great being, which was why He was willing to reveal His "true name" (referring to the name of the true god) to him.
Regardless of whether the great "Creator" could hear him, Elliott respectfully replied, "As you wish!"
He knew very well that the "creator's" last words were clearly a lesson to him, a reminder as well as a blessing.
What Elliott didn't know was that the "Great Creator" simply didn't want the eye he had planted in the Southern Continent to unwittingly become an extraordinary trait.
After leaving the "Land of Chaos" for the fourth time tonight, Hobart was so tired that he fell asleep almost as soon as he lay down.
……
On the road leading to Kansel City in the Southern Continent.
The Rune mercenaries were cleaning up the battlefield. Their captain, Caster Augustus, frowned and asked his three subordinates, "You mean the enemy suddenly appeared in mid-air and didn't attack you?"
The battle was a resounding success, and the entire mercenary team was immersed in a sea of excitement.
However, a small incident occurred in the latter half of the war: someone stole two of their insignificant spoils of war!
This is a matter that's neither too big nor too small, but it's something we have to get to the bottom of.
One of the three pursuers who had been chasing Elliott said, "Captain, if they were to attack us, we would be completely defenseless."
Castor's brow furrowed even deeper, just as his assistant Conrad strode in: "It's been determined; the extraordinary ability that was taken belonged to Borg Calvin."
"Viscount Calvin's nephew?" Caster asked.
"Yes," Conrad said. "As for the extraordinary item that was taken, it's difficult to find out. Although we have most of the intelligence on our adversaries, we don't know exactly what extraordinary item or sealed artifact they possess."
"However, judging from the descriptions of several subordinates who treated the wounded, it should be a Sequence 7 or Sequence 6 item."
After a few seconds of silence, Castor suddenly laughed: "They obviously knew about our actions, which is why they were able to achieve their goals during our fierce battle."
"But a 'high-sequence' extraordinary individual, using such crucial information, had his servant or subordinate take such a huge risk, only to take away a 'mid-sequence' extraordinary item and a sequence 8 extraordinary trait?"
This must be the funniest joke he's heard all year.
Conrad analyzed, "Perhaps that extraordinary item has extraordinary significance?"
He said, "By the way, the divination results show that the person who stole the extraordinary ability is a local extraordinary force."
"However, all the divinations performed on the powerful figure on the throne failed without exception."
"It seems a new powerful figure has emerged in the Southern Continent. The power structure in Anthony's territory is about to be reshuffled," Caster said. "Since the losses aren't too great, let's avoid conflict with the local extraordinary organizations. Let's quickly gather our spoils and retreat as soon as possible!"
Fortunately, this powerful figure harbored no ill will towards them. Given the strength he displayed, if the other party wished, most of the mercenary team members would acquire extraordinary traits in the Southern Continent.
……
The next morning, Hobart felt that his spirituality and mental state had recovered well. He went to the law firm, sat for a while, and then went out to "visit clients".
He planned to rent a house on a nearby street this morning, and his wealth had now returned to over 70 pounds, not including his share of the two spoils and the reward Mr. Robin had promised.
As for what kind of house he wanted, he had already decided. Ideally, it would be a two-story townhouse, so that there would be enough space and the neighbors wouldn't notice when he held certain ceremonies.
Ideally, it should be near a law firm so he can rest there when he works late.
After wandering around Baiminglan Street and then the neighboring street, I quickly found two nice rental houses.
Following the information on the rental notice, Hobart easily found the landlord who lived nearby. After comparing two rental houses, Hobart chose the townhouse at 192 Blanca Street.
The house has a similar structure to the popular two-story townhouses. The first floor has a living room, kitchen, dining room, and a small storage room.
Upstairs are three bedrooms and a bathroom with a bathtub.
It's quite spacious, equivalent to what Hobart remembers as a three-bedroom, two-living-room house.
The annual rent was £52. Hobart rented it for six months, paying £26, which brought his available savings to £48, 1 sous, and 6 pence.
The newly rented house is very close to the law firm, only a ten-minute walk away.
Hobart had lunch at the firm, and since he hadn't received any letters from the Mercenary Club, he actually went out to visit a client in the afternoon.
The client he was to visit was one of the cases Barton had given him last week; Mr. Barron from a suburban farm had written to the law firm requesting legal assistance.
Following the address in the letter, Hobart took a horse-drawn carriage to a farm in the suburbs.
The repeal of the Grain Act bankrupted many small landowners and farmers in Loen, but that was only the fate of some. Many farms survived in the suburbs of Backlund, including Mr. Baron.
