Chapter 21

Alice

The party has ended.

After bidding farewell to the noblewoman he had danced with, Chael returned to his mansion in the West End by carriage.

He took off his elegant evening gown and put on a loose black robe, carefully tucking a revolver into his pocket.

Chael took the white cypress cane from Martin and led him on a slow stroll along West Velas Street. Although the smog was still quite heavy that night, the crimson moonlight still pierced through the fog, leaving a crimson mark on his palm like flowing mercury.

"Martin, do you think the moon looked the same a thousand years ago as it does tonight?"

Chael felt a pang of sympathy for her past self.

If the elves wanted to lie low in the Fourth Age, wouldn't they be looked down upon by a bunch of Scroll Kings?

"Young Master, I think so. Otherwise, why would all the emperors of the Trensost Empire be called Night Emperors?"

"If Intis is the land of the sun, then we must be the land of the moon."

"Praise beauties, goddess."

Martin gazed up at the crimson moon in the sky, and under the night sky, he felt a surge of emotion. He then devoutly drew a crimson moon on his chest.

"You're great."

The Creator of all things, the all-knowing and all-powerful God...

Chael also drew a crimson moon on his chest and prayed devoutly to the ancient sun god.

He always remembered that frequent prayer would speed up the digestion of the magic potion.

The two walked along the main road and, as they approached the Backlund Bridge, they saw a slender figure wearing a hood standing not far from the Intis Embassy.

"Good evening, you blazing sun believer who cheats minors out of their pocket money."

"Do you know you've tarnished the sun's image?"

Chael walked up and waved to greet him.

A blinding white light flashed, and it looked like two light bulbs were lit up under the hood. Xia Er turned her head slightly, and when her vision returned, she was already being grabbed by the collar.

"Say it again?"

"What we did was a fair and just transaction, a legitimate exchange based on mutual consent."

"If you dare to slander my Lord again, I'll hang you on a street lamp!"

Hearing the menacing voice, Xia Er looked down and saw a pretty girl with short, neat blond hair. Her eyes were bright and spirited, shrouded in a blazing white halo.

"Don't misunderstand, believers' personal behavior should not be attributed to deities."

"I can't help but reply," Xia Er replied casually.

If he wanted to mock Ocycus, this would definitely not be the reason he used.

"That's right, a bastard believer doesn't represent the Lord..."

Upon hearing this very reasonable statement, the blonde girl loosened her grip, but after a sudden realization, her cute little face instantly turned fierce.

"Miss Alice, please release the young master and let's talk this out. There might be some misunderstanding."

At the critical moment, the loyal Martin rushed forward to separate his young master from the extraordinary person before him.

"Last year, I was only 17 years old. You swindler, how much stuff did you sell me at exorbitant prices?"

"It's one thing if you don't feel ashamed, but you even have the nerve to get angry. You're hopeless. Your manners are really bad."

Chael straightened his collar and said in a tone that conveyed a sense of lament for the suffering of the people.

"Young master, I beg you, please stop talking."

Martin desperately held back Alice's eyes, which were practically spitting fire, and his voice even carried a hint of a sob.

This is your bodyguard for tonight...

Who starts by criticizing the bodyguard?

"Get out of my way!"

Alice shoved Martin aside and stormed toward Xia Er, who was completely unaffected.

"Shall we talk as we walk?"

"Illustrious Embassy in Intis and the Backlund Bridge," said Chael.

Alice seemed not to hear, and moved closer to Chael to take a closer sniff.

"Why do you smell a little strange?"

A hint of doubt appeared in the blonde girl's eyes.

"Perhaps it's the stench of money."

Chael took a step back without making a sound, distancing himself from the Lightbringer of the Church of the Eternal Sun.

"Hehe~"

Alice didn't dwell on the issue. She grabbed Chael's robe and headed towards the bridge, seemingly not intending to waste any more time there and planning to have a proper discussion with Chael.

"Tell me, how did I cheat you out of your money? If you can't explain it clearly, I might push you off the bridge."

As she walked, she turned back and glared fiercely at Xia Er.

"How much are those potion ingredients? How much are you selling them to me for?"

Chael flicked his sleeves, pulling the cuffs of his robe back from the other person's hand, and said.

The main ingredients for Sequence 9 are only around 150 pounds, and the potion recipe is about 200 to 300 pounds. This guy can double that price when he sells it to himself.

"You think it's too expensive? If you think it's too expensive, then don't buy from me. At least what I'm selling you is genuine. If you spend money and get something fake, you'll be crying later. Besides, those are all local specialties of Intis. Aren't you going to pay for the shipping and such?"

Alice said matter-of-factly.

Instead of backing down, she got angry.

This idiotic nobleman from Rune, I gave you the potion recipe and the potion ingredients. I was planning to make you a glorious follower of the sun, since you're not too bad looking. But you actually used the prepared potion to feed the dogs?

That's fine, having a superhuman pet is fine, but you thought it was poisoning and had someone bury that hunting dog?

How dare you come back to me for a refund after all this time?

How can Little Maynard explain to the public if he doesn't mention the poisoning? How can he ask you for a refund? Do you know how huge the impact is on an ordinary person's mind to witness the promotion spiral out of control?

Xia Er secretly rolled her eyes.

"Oh, you mean the shipping fee you mentioned refers to buying goods cheaply from the Intis embassy and then reselling them to me at three times the price?"

Xia Er really couldn't understand how little Maynard had been fooled by this guy.

"Forehead..."

Alice's expression stiffened for a moment. She hadn't really told this guy much about the Extraordinary World.

How did it get exposed?

How did he suddenly know the insider prices? Which bastard broke the industry rules?!

"Leaving aside the potion recipe and ingredients, although they're a bit expensive, at least you didn't try to fool me with counterfeit products."

"Let's talk about the Holy Water of the Sun. How much does the Holy Water of the Sun from the Eternal Sun Church cost? What price are you offering?"

"You dare to sell a bottle of holy water for 100 pounds? Why don't you just rob someone?"

Xia Er realized that by drinking a bottle of cold medicine, she had consumed one-tenth of the rich girl Audrey's monthly allowance.

He couldn't help but gasp in surprise.

"Young master, did I overpay?"

What was the original price?

Martin, who had been silent, couldn't help but ask a question upon hearing this.

He thought that he had worked with Alice for more than a year, and this holy water of the sun was said to be able to cure diseases, ward off evil spirits, drive away the cold, and purify vengeful spirits, so it should be worth at least 50 pounds.

He could accept Miss Alice doubling her offer.

"10 pounds."

Chael uttered a number that made Martin stumble.

Martin looked incredulously at Alice, who was turning her head away somewhat guiltily.

We've known each other for a year, and I personally went to pick up the goods, and you actually increased the price tenfold?
