Chapter 23
Werewolves
The three entered the dimly lit street, illuminated by kerosene lamps.
The night was hazy, and the crimson moon cast long shadows on the ground.
At this point, Chael had stopped arguing with Alice.
Alice also quieted down, only occasionally twitching her nostrils slightly.
Martin followed behind the two men, and if it weren't for the lights still visible in the distant tavern, he would have been terrified by the sudden silence.
The journey was quiet until they were almost at the tavern, and nothing happened until Martin finally breathed a sigh of relief.
"Martin, go inside and order some food."
Chael gave the order to his personal male servant.
"Yes, young master."
Martin obeyed the order and was about to enter the tavern, but when he saw that neither Xia Er nor Alice intended to go in, he stopped.
Chael and Alice exchanged a glance. "Shall we go take a look?"
Alice turned and walked into a nearby alley, and Xia Er followed behind her. Martin, who was stunned in place, turned pale and then red, but still followed behind the two of them.
The environment in the bridge area is terrible. Even at night, you can hear the hum of machinery from the factories and smell the stench of industrial wastewater in the air.
Amidst this foul stench, one could still faintly detect a fishy odor—the smell of blood.
Chael pulled Alice back, making a gesture as if embracing the sun. Alice understood, clasped her hands together in a prayer-like manner, and the darkness ahead was illuminated by golden light.
A monster covered in black fur and stained with blood had already approached the three of them.
Suddenly stripped of its darkness and bathed in golden light, it clutched its eyes in pain, about to let out a roar of alarm and fury.
"Shut up."
Xia Er raised the birchwood cane in her hand and inserted the tip of the cane into the other person's open mouth to give them a proper nucleic acid test.
This silenced the werewolf's roar, and it let out a painful whimper.
"Go to hell!"
Alice then conjured a golden, illusory flame with her hand. The light fell upon the werewolf covered in black fur, and it immediately burst into flames.
Chael pulled back his cane, picked up a beer bottle that someone had thrown away from the ground, and delivered a series of blows to the head.
bump!
The werewolf, engulfed in golden flames, collapsed to the ground, trembled twice, and then fell still.
"Young Master!"
Martin, who had just recovered from the shock of the bright light, hadn't even had time to be terrified before it was all over.
"Werewolf, is that all?"
Shael pointed to the revolver Martin had frantically pulled out, which was aimed at the corpse on the ground, and said:
"We didn't even draw our guns."
"Are werewolves really in this world?!"
"By the goddess above, we've actually hunted down a werewolf..."
Martin, also a young man, got excited. Hunting down a werewolf was much more prestigious than killing a few rabbits or foxes.
"Werewolves shouldn't be that weak."
"I've heard from the sisters in church that these werewolves have the ability to create subordinates using wolf venom. People infected with wolf venom will turn into werewolf-like monsters, and these monsters usually have very short lifespans."
Alice frowned. She didn't think she had taken down a Sequence 7 werewolf so easily. If it were that simple, the guys in the tribunal would have been obsolete long ago.
"So, if you're saying that where werewolf-like monsters appear, real werewolves will appear?"
"Let's go back to sleep then."
"It's getting late now, and even the moonlight isn't that bright anymore."
Xia Er glanced at the dark red bloodstains on the end of his cane. If he used this to stab someone, would the target be infected with wolfsbane?
"Yes, let's hurry up and go."
Upon hearing their speculations, Martin's initial excitement vanished instantly. He'd already killed a werewolf-like monster that day; it was best to hurry back.
When did the crimson moonlight begin to dim?
Using the light from the still-burning golden flames, he subconsciously looked up and saw a werewolf covered in black fur, its long, sharp nails digging into the wall, preparing to jump down from the roof not far away.
The monster's cold, eerie green eyes looked particularly chilling in the darkness. Martin shuddered, a cold sweat breaking out on his back.
Whoosh!
It sounded like the wind.
The werewolf unleashed its power, stomped hard on the wall, and pounced on Xia'er and her two companions from mid-air.
In his panic, Martin fired all his bullets.
But the opponent was moving too fast, and Martin couldn't aim in time, so he couldn't hit the opponent. All his bullets hit the wall next to him.
bump!
Chael raised the specially made large-caliber revolver, pressed down the hammer, turned the cylinder, and pulled the trigger.
The sound of metal clashing rang out.
The werewolf in mid-air blocked the bullet with its claws, which could tear through ordinary steel plates, and its originally swift pounce was also affected.
"Aerial state?"
Seeing that this Sequence 7 werewolf underestimated the three of them, Xia Er smiled and fired all five of his remaining bullets.
I've heard that werewolves have pretty good defense and regeneration?
He subtly adjusted the muzzle of his gun, aiming it at the lower body.
Bang! Bang! Bang! Crash!
Roar!
With a low growl suppressing his anger, the werewolf abandoned his plan to quickly kill the three and chose to defend his vitals.
If only that damn bastard hadn't aimed at such a crucial spot...
He's determined to tear this bastard to pieces!
The werewolf wanted to memorize the guy's face, but what appeared in his field of vision was a sudden burst of holy light.
boom!
The last bullet, hidden in golden holy light and imbued with sacred aura, exploded into a flower of blood on the werewolf's arm.
After firing his bullets, Xia Er twirled his gun and was about to reload when he was grabbed and quickly pulled to the other end of the street.
Alice didn't even glance at the werewolf whose face was covered in the holy light she had summoned. She grabbed Shael and a somewhat bewildered Martin and quickly ran towards the main street.
"Shouldn't we continue fighting?"
Chael was being dragged along by Alice, but he managed to break free. As he ran, he loaded his bullets, not forgetting to glance back at the werewolf who was getting up from the ground.
"That's a werewolf, how are we supposed to fight it?"
"With my magic? Or with your bullets?"
Alice remained steadfast in her principle of escaping first, knowing full well that they would all be in danger if the werewolves got close.
"Martin, your aim can't be that bad, can it?"
Shael didn't persist. He turned around, aimed at the werewolf trying to catch up, and fired again.
With his hunting experience, combined with the Mystic's sensitivity to dark power and his exceptional mental strength, Young Maynard's aim was excellent.
