Chapter 55

Put Down the Knife

"Creatures who gain supernatural abilities by taking potions are called Extraordinary."

"Do you know how the church views people like you?"

"Think carefully, why didn't you know so much about extraordinary individuals before?"

Xia Er deliberately exaggerated the situation.

Hazel was indeed frightened. Remembering what her teacher had said about not revealing one's abilities, all sorts of terrifying thoughts flashed through her mind, and even the hand holding the knife trembled slightly.

"Hold on tight. If your hand slips and that knife flies out, you'll be attacking an official, you know that?"

Chael glanced at the gleaming silver knife, signaling to the girl to give up and not make a futile struggle.

"You...you're lying to me, aren't you?"

Hazel did not obey; although her voice trembled slightly, she gripped the knife in her hand even tighter.

She suppressed her unease and did not go to see her parents.

"You guessed right, I was lying to you."

"What an idiot, how could I possibly expose you?"

Chael laughed, and the seriousness on his face disappeared.

Call ~

Hazel breathed a sigh of relief, but before she could feel embarrassed or angry, Chael's voice rang in her ears again.

"Can you put the knife down now?"

"None of your business!"

Hazel glared at Chael and hid the knife behind her back.

"How dare you talk to me like that?"

"I am your only connection in the mysterious world, and you won't even call me brother."

"I said with a smile."

"When did you become so rude?"

Hazel's face was almost red with anger.

"Then I can only talk to Uncle Mori about your future education. Uncle Mori served as a major when he was serving in East Bayron. Although he may not be an extraordinary being, he must have met extraordinary beings."

As she spoke, Xia Er was about to get up.

"Brother...brother."

The voice was like a dream, and if it weren't for Xia'er's good hearing, she would have almost missed it.

He sat down again, looking at Hazel, who was bowing her head and clutching the hem of her skirt, and asked in confusion:

Were you calling me just now?

Hazel did not respond.

"It doesn't seem so..."

As Xia Er shook his head, intending to continue pretending, a sharp dinner knife flashed in front of him.

"Don't go too far!"

Hazel suddenly raised her head, her pretty face flushed, and glared at Xia'er through gritted teeth.

"I'm doing this for your own good. You don't understand, stepping into the extraordinary world means you might encounter danger at any time. If I don't tell Uncle Mori about your situation, it would be irresponsible of me to do so."

Xia Er is completely unthreatened. How can a matter of principle be shaken by the coercion of evil forces?

"elder brother!"

Heyr squeezed out the title with difficulty.

She glared at Xia Er with fury, so angry she almost crushed the talisman in her hand. If he wasn't satisfied, she would definitely stab this bastard to death!

"Um."

Xia Er responded, then rolled his eyes at the girl who was about to explode with anger, saying, "Don't think you've lost out. You'll find out later that the most important person you can come into contact with in the mysterious world is the one you're pointing a knife at right now."

"Hmph~"

Hazel snorted defiantly, "What are you bragging about? You're nowhere near as good as my teacher."

"What is the Sequence 9 potion you took?"

Xia Er asked the question knowing the answer already.

"Thief".

"This is not what thieves mean. Our dream is to steal hearts, steal magic, cheat the rules, and deceive fate."

Hazel was worried that Chael would look down on her, so she deliberately said what her teacher had told her.

She had promised her teacher she wouldn't reveal her identity, but now that it had been revealed involuntarily, she could only try to gloss over the situation for the time being.

If she weren't worried about exposing her teacher, how could she have been threatened by this guy to say such shameful things!

How much do you know about the mysterious world?

Before starting the literacy course, Xia Er planned to first find out about the girl's level of education.

Hazel fell silent, turning her gaze elsewhere.

"The person who sold you the potion recipe is truly... extraordinary."

"Consider this your first lesson. The mystical side and the real side have a lot in common, namely, no one is obligated to guide you for free."

"Selling you the real potion recipe and ingredients is already considered a good deal."

"Knowledge has value. If I wasn't afraid you'd foolishly mess things up and hurt Aunt Liana, I wouldn't bother taking you along."

Chael leaned back on the sofa, swirling his wine glass and sipping it with great pleasure.

Hazel's hands, resting on her knees, clenched and unclenched repeatedly as she silently told herself, "This bastard is doing this for my own good..."

Does he mean to make him doubt his teacher?

Although the teacher didn't tell me much, at least the teacher was very gentle and never spoke so irritatingly!

Hazel kept her head down, listening as Shael belittled her from head to toe, and stubbornly held back from uttering a single rebuttal.

"The attitude is acceptable."

Chael's emotional needs were greatly satisfied.

If this were his own sister, she would have already overturned the sofa he was sitting on.

"Huff...huff...brother...can you teach me now?"

Heyr took a few deep breaths, trying to make the smile on her face less stiff.

"Well, let me explain it to you briefly."

"At present, there are roughly three types of extraordinary individuals. The first type is official forces, such as royal families of various countries and the Church of the True God. The second type is various secret organizations that do not have a mainstream status and always operate in secrecy. The third type is wild extraordinary individuals, who are unorganized and have no affiliation, such as you."

"The first type can be understood as the police in the shadows. The second type can be understood as the gang. Not everyone in the gang is a bad person, but there aren't many good people either. The third type is more complex in composition and has a more difficult living environment because while the church is suppressing secret organizations, it is also wary of these wild extraordinary individuals."

Chael's explanation gave Hazel a general idea.

Are the Church of God and government officials in various countries worried that undocumented individuals with extraordinary abilities might use these powers to commit crimes?

She asked, puzzled.

The girl felt wronged; she hadn't intended to break the law, yet she was implicated.

"That's one reason. Another reason is that wild extraordinary beings don't have a comprehensive grasp of mystical knowledge, which may lead to them losing control due to emotions or other reasons."

"Going out of control means turning into a monster, the ugly kind. Even the most beautiful out-of-control creature won't look much better than a rotten apple."

"The power of the mystical side exists in many forms. For example, the talisman I gave you. If you come into contact with a cursed or dangerous item, you will be in danger."

"Mystery attracts mystery; the extraordinary are more inspired and more likely to perceive dangers that are imperceptible to ordinary people."

"As an extraordinary being in the church, I can help you conceal your affairs and not question how you became an extraordinary being. However, if you come into contact with anything, whether it's a particular object or some knowledge, you must have me examine it. This is for your sake, and also for Uncle Morrie's and the others'. Understand?"

Chael's long-winded speech left Hazel completely bewildered, and the noblewoman nodded blankly.

"Now, I'm hungry, and I want to eat a steak."

Xia Er pointed to the buffet set up on the other side of the table.

Hazel stood up, took the tray, and got a steak for Xia'er. The girl's thoughts were simple. Since knowledge has a price, and this guy had told her so much for free, she should do something to repay him.

In the distance, seeing her usually proud daughter finally willing to get along well with her peers, Mrs. Liana was somewhat pleased, while Congressman Macht's eyes were somewhat unfriendly, as he needed his precious daughter's help to get a plate.

The banquet ended just like that.

Shael does not intend to make direct contact with the possible demigod thief for the time being.
