Chapter 17
A Changing Protagonist, But Hannah Remains
Chapter 17 A Changing Protagonist, But Hannah Remains
Professor McGonagall turned around and looked at the new students this year. She said seriously, "Welcome to Hogwarts. Now follow me. You will need to wait in the side hall for a moment."
Please keep quiet as I leave, because the Sorting Ceremony will be one of the most important moments of your lives.
Professor McGonagall paused for a moment, then seemed to remember something.
Turning his gaze to Ian in the crowd, he added, "Mr. Titus, although you're a transfer student, you'll still need to attend the Sorting Ceremony with the new students later."
After saying this, Professor McGonagall turned and left.
The moment she closed the door, the freshmen, who had just been petrified, immediately returned to their original state.
Apart from a few precocious girls who were silently watching Ian in a daze, most of them were chattering about the Sorting Ceremony and emphasizing the reliability and secrecy of their information.
"I think we need to do some kind of experiment. Fred and George said it would hurt us a lot, but I think they're just joking. After all, they always love playing pranks, don't they...?"
As Ron talked to Harry, he seemed to be comforting himself, completely oblivious to Harry's slightly pale face.
Desperate for comfort, Harry turned his head to look around, and by sheer coincidence, he saw Hermione reciting a spell...
The young wizards were all agitated and anxious at this moment, but fortunately, this situation did not last long before it was interrupted by a ghost that suddenly jumped out from the wall.
These pearly white, translucent ghosts slid around the room without restraint, whispering amongst themselves and pretending not to notice the first-year students.
Amidst the students' screams, the ghosts thankfully completed their self-introductions and the college's annual promotion before gracefully drifting through the walls and making a grand exit.
Professor McGonagall seemed to have witnessed all of this, timing it perfectly so that the ghosts could complete their task and leave the room before she herself returned to the side hall.
With a serious expression and sharp eyes, he stood there without making any movement, merely glancing at the crowd. His powerful aura instantly silenced the freshmen who had just been lively and picnicking as if on a picnic.
"Now, line up in a single file and follow me!"
Professor McGonagall addressed the freshmen, who at least appeared to be well-behaved.
The Hogwarts Sorting Ceremony officially began in 1991.
……
Professor McGonagall led a group of nervous yet obedient young wizards, striding swiftly towards the Great Hall.
Although the atmosphere was solemn, for some reason, Ian kept seeing images of a dubbed short video he'd seen before, showing a mother duck on a trip… 'Everyone, follow along, start counting: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5…'
Entering the hall, we arrived at a magical, magnificent place.
Students from all grades in the four colleges were now sitting quietly and solemnly at their long tables, with countless candles floating in the air above them serving as the light source.
Ian carefully discovered that these seemingly simple candles did not produce the wax that ordinary candles produce when they burned.
"Amazing magic!"
He sighed inwardly, then turned to look at the teachers' seats in the hall, where long tables were filled with gleaming silver platters and various goblets.
The most surprising and magical thing was the ceiling, which was highlighted in the original work. The velvety black ceiling twinkled with starlight, looking exactly like the tranquil night sky.
At that moment, Professor McGonagall slowly walked to the four-cornered stool placed in front of the first-year students, and then gently placed a pointed wizard's hat on it. The hat looked dirty and had various patches on it.
You might think I'm not pretty,
But never judge a book by its cover.
If you can find a more beautiful hat than mine
I can eat myself.
You can make your top hats jet black and shiny.
Make your top hats smooth and crisp.
I am the magic hat used for the Hogwarts tests.
Nature is far superior to your hats.
Any thoughts hidden in your mind,
They couldn't escape the Demon Hat's sharp eyes.
Try it on and I'll tell you.
Which college should you be assigned to?
Come on, put me on! Don't be afraid!
Don't panic!
In my hands (even though I don't even have one hand)
You are absolutely safe!
Because I am a thinking magic hat!
The hat that suddenly started singing a song made all the freshmen look like they had been deceived.
As the Sorting Hat song ended, applause erupted throughout the hall.
"I knew I couldn't trust George and Fred. They lied to me again...again...I'm going to write to my mother and tell her they've been causing trouble at school."
Ron now understood that the so-called Sorting Ceremony was simply wearing a hat, even if that hat looked very dirty.
Although he was often pranked by his two older brothers, this time he was really angry and couldn't help but think of revenge—writing a letter to his mother.
Professor McGonagall, who had been waiting quietly to the side, also took out the parchment she was holding in her left hand.
"Now, those whose names I call, please come up."
……
Hannah Abbott
……
Professor McGonagall called out the name of the first freshman of the academic year.
Upon hearing the name, Ian felt a strange sense of peace as he gazed at the girl with rosy cheeks and two golden braids.
Still somewhat naive at this moment, upon hearing the sound, she hurriedly walked towards Professor McGonagall, yet her steps revealed a regal air...
……
Lavender Brown
……
Millison Burst
……
One after another, new students went up to the Sorting Ceremony, which proceeded smoothly until—"Harry Potter."
The hall instantly became a little commotion, with students whispering among themselves, discussing the legendary boy who had survived the ordeal of defeating the mysterious man.
Harry looked extremely nervous. He sat on the stool with his eyes closed, his hands gripping the edge of the stool tightly, and his mouth seemed to be muttering something incessantly.
A long time passed before the Sorting Hat finally shouted, "Gryffindor!"
A thunderous applause erupted from the Gryffindor table, and every Gryffindor student cheered with joy.
George and Fred, in particular, jumped onto the table, waving their arms and shouting, "We got Potter! We got Potter!"
Ian calmly observed the scene before him, a phrase he had once seen somewhere resurfacing in his mind: "The door to magic has been opened; a wondrous journey begins here!"
Everything remained the same. Harry, Ron, and Hermione were in Gryffindor, while Malfoy, Goyle, and Black were stationed in Slytherin.
Ian discovered that, apart from himself, all the student divisions remained unchanged.
As time went by, only one student remained besides Ian when it came time for the Sorting Ceremony. After the freckled boy went up to complete his Sorting Ceremony, it was finally Ian's turn.
Ian Titus
The hall became noisy again as Professor McGonagall's loud voice rang out.
The difference is that this time the main force is all girls, and their sweet voices rise and fall. Ian's effect at this moment is no less than Harry's.
However, he ignored them and the girls who kept passing on "information," and calmly walked towards the Sorting Hat.
Ian has no intention of taking shortcuts or being a so-called "Sorting Obsessive" when it comes to his Sorting Ceremony.
He simply wanted to follow his heart and let the Sorting Hat decide which house he belonged to.
Because he had already planned this when he decided to attend Hogwarts. Firstly, he didn't follow the plot or seek personal gain; he was open to attending any house. Secondly, he genuinely wanted to see where he truly belonged.
……
"Hmm, that's amazing. You're so passionate about every single college. That's incredibly rare. You know, since the four deans started channeling their ideas into me, only a handful of students share your passion, having no prejudice against any college and loving each and every one of them..."
Ian did indeed treat all four houses equally, not just the minds of adults.
It stemmed more from his love for magic, a sense of happiness that came true, and under this happiness, choosing any academy was an indiscriminate pleasure.
"Perhaps you could hurry up, after all, too many people are waiting for the banquet to begin."
Although Ian didn't mind the division, he really disliked the feeling of sitting here being watched by the whole school.
"Oh ho, I've figured it out. Although you hid it well, well... Ravenclaw!"
As the Sorting Hat loudly announced the name, enthusiastic applause erupted on the long table belonging to Lovenclaw, where students wore sky-blue school uniforms. Several girls were even so excited that their faces turned red. In stark contrast, the other three houses remained somewhat silent.
Ian put down his hat and walked to the long table belonging to Ravenclaw. He ignored the empty seats that were deliberately left for him with ulterior motives and casually found a seat at the back to sit down.
