Chapter 3

Finding a Job

Chapter 3 Finding a Job

Feeling somewhat lost and tired, Ian walked to the brown walnut single bed by the window. The long-lost tranquility and security quickly lulled him into a deep sleep.

Having inexplicably transmigrated to a post-apocalyptic world, his mind is constantly on edge. Even in the relatively safe residential area he had carefully cleared out, he had never found the peace he has now.

This is not hard to understand. After all, in a desolate world where he had no relatives or friends, and with the feeling of panic that would arise just from staring at the shadows, everything was oppressing and destroying his spirit.

In this situation, even if one sleeps, it is only a shallow rest, and even the REM sleep phase is not reached.

The theory that two hours of deep sleep is better than a day of light sleep has been proven once again.

When Ian woke up in the evening, he felt like a nine-tailed grass that had never seen rain in years, and after being watered by the spring rain, he felt a sense of rebirth, as if he had been reborn after a long time.

After a simple wash and tidying up, I changed into the secondhand plain-colored robe left by old Tom.

Looking at his reflection in the mirror, the mysterious, tall, and slender young man seemed to be enchanted by a magical charm even in his old, secondhand robe.

"What's so special about that? One day I was even impressed by my own handsomeness..."

It was time to go downstairs, Ian said, pushing open the door.

……

The bar was noticeably less crowded than when he arrived; only a handful of people were scattered about.

Because it was already dark in the evening, Ian's arrival did not disturb anyone else. He went straight to old Tom, who was wiping wine glasses.

"You look great, which means you got some rest. I think you need to drink a glass of lemon water with a few drops of euphoria."

Old Tom clearly noticed Ian and, as he spoke, filled the freshly wiped glass next to him with lemonade.

"Thank you for your hospitality. To be honest, I haven't slept this soundly in a long time. Do you know where I can find a job?"

After expressing his gratitude, Ian took the opportunity to state his own request.

"Okay, there's no need to rush. You can eat something first, and I'll show you how to get into Diagon Alley. Maybe you can try your luck there."

Ian understood the answer perfectly.

As expected and reasonable, it's not hard to see that while Old Tom is friendly to the young wizards, his friendliness is limited to that.

As the "flag bearer" of Diagon Alley, he wasn't stupid. Allowing a strange wizard to pay on credit, along with his blood-stained clothes, was undoubtedly a sign of trouble, even if the wizard was underage.

Ian was already very grateful to be able to stay here temporarily.

Therefore, he has no right to ask for more, such as working in a bar or getting a job.

Anyway, thank you so much.

Looking at old Tom's wrinkled and somewhat missing-toothed face, Ian thought to himself.

Looking at the dinner Old Tom handed me: a plate of French fries and two premium sandwiches that were clearly loaded with extra fillings.

Compared to the many "predecessors" who complained about British food, this dinner was an extraordinary luxury for him, who was still cooking porridge in the post-apocalyptic world.

After enjoying the lavish dinner, Cao Cao, led by Old Tom, passed through the bar and arrived at a small courtyard surrounded by walls on all sides. There was nothing there except a trash can and some weeds.

The other person pointed to the wall tiles above the trash can.

"Remember, count three pieces up, then two pieces horizontally." With that, Old Tom pulled out his wand and tapped the wall three times, and the wall began to shake.

Soon, a not-so-narrow archway was formed, leading to a winding, seemingly endless street paved entirely with irregular cobblestones.

"Welcome to Diagon Alley," old Tom said with a smile to Ian.

However, seeing that the other person clearly did not intend to accompany him inside, and only gestured at the entrance of the archway before slowly walking back.

After thanking him again, Ian stepped into this sacred place that everyone in the myriad worlds had visited.
