Chapter 47

Eileen's Mission

Chapter 47 Eileen's Mission

Eileen was staring at Ian with innocent, wide eyes, making it impossible for him to utter any words of reproach. Helpless, he could only sigh deeply.

"What were you thinking? Bread, salad, pudding, jam—there's everything in the fridge! Chocolate, candy, snacks—did I hide them all so you couldn't find them? It's just lunch..."

Perhaps because Ian's expression was somewhat serious, Eileen said with a hint of grievance:

"I've already eaten lunch. I just wanted to make you dinner. Although magic is convenient, I still want you to be able to rest when you get home, instead of continuing to be busy. I'm not very useful, but I really just wanted to help you..."

The sound grew softer and softer, and Eileen's eyes reddened.

Listening to the other person's explanation, Ian suddenly realized where the problem lay. It wasn't about today's incident, but rather that his long-standing pattern of life and relationship with Eileen had gone wrong.

He never considered Eileen's feelings in anything he did. She was an individual with independent thinking abilities, not his appendage. To put it bluntly, Ian's previous approach to their relationship was like keeping her as a pet.

Before the apocalypse, Eileen was a typical strong woman. Even with a wealthy family background and considerable wealth, she did not lose sight of her goals. She remained steadfast in her beliefs, choosing to rely on her own abilities to get into her desired school and complete her studies. Then, with her outstanding execution skills, she became a senior executive in the company.

All of this proves that the other party is a very strong-willed woman.

That's true. Although Eileen's life alone in the apocalypse had left her exhausted, she never gave up hope and still tried to obtain supplies through her own efforts.

Since meeting Ian, she has never worried about survival again, for which she is very grateful. She has an endless supply of clean water and all kinds of fresh and delicious food every day, and all she has to do is take care of her small vegetable garden. So she is truly grateful to Ian.

Everything in this base, from large items like generators, solar panels, furniture, and walls, to small items like various tableware, spoons, watering cans, toothbrushes, and towels, was collected and brought back by the other party bit by bit.

Watching her ride that broom that could fly into the sky every day, hovering like a diligent worker bee in the perilous city, she felt deeply guilty and increasingly felt that she was useless and was more like a burden.

So she desperately wanted to do something for him, even if it was just a small, insignificant thing. This wasn't just about demonstrating her self-worth; it was also because she genuinely wanted to help Ian and share some of his burdens.

……

Eileen's behavior today actually touched Ian's heart. After realizing where the problem lay, he said softly:

"You shouldn't be doing these trivial things that you're not good at. Actually, I have more important things that I need your help with. And the reason I'm angry is simply because what you did today could easily put yourself in danger. So, please don't do that again, okay?"

"Okay, I agree. But what do you need me to do? My major might not be of much help. By the way, I have a master's degree in Information Management and Information Systems."

Perhaps Eileen realized she really wasn't good at cooking, so she obediently agreed to Ian's request. Her attention was then focused on the "more important thing" Ian had mentioned, and she didn't even notice her current appearance, which resembled that of a little girl waiting for her teacher to call on her for praise.

Seeing Eileen's adorable expression, Ian couldn't help but reach out and pinch her cheek. She didn't resist, but just pouted and glared at Ian.

Ian suddenly realized his behavior was somewhat impolite and quickly lowered his hand. Then he said seriously:

"Ahem... Of course it's very important. I brought back a lot of books from the library, and I also have a lot of books about magic. You need to help me classify and organize these, then read and organize them, find the commonalities, and find the contradictions."

This was something Ian had been thinking about when he went to the library today. After all, with mountains of books, how could he possibly sort and select them all by himself? Who knows how long that would take?

So, since I just happened to come across this, I went along with it and assigned all these tasks to Eileen.

As for the books brought from the wizarding world, Ian only wanted them to help organize the history books. Ever since he learned the Muggle Exorcism Charm from Professor Binns, he had taken the course very seriously.

But the history of magic is vast and Ian didn't have much energy to study it carefully, so he simply assigned it all to Eileen, which also showed how much he valued her.

As for his own secrets? Ian said he wasn't worried at all. Not to mention that there were hardly any living people left in this world, even if the world were intact, Ian wouldn't care.

There are too many spells targeting Muggles, such as the Muggle Expulsion Charm, the Oblivion Charm, and the Confusion Charm. The Department of Accidents and Disasters of the Ministry of Magic has even come up with new and creative ways to use these spells.

"Don't worry, leave everything to me. I'll do my job well."

Eileen was quite happy at that moment and readily agreed, promising to do these things well.

After the two reached an agreement, things became much simpler. Ian quickly prepared dinner again, and a series of simple yet exquisite dishes floated to the table on their own.
