Chapter 8
First Meeting with Professor McGonagall
Chapter 8 First Meeting with Professor McGonagall
Time always slips away unnoticed. While Ian was pondering, Professor McGonagall received a letter from Old Tom.
Looking at the contents of the thin parchment in front of her, she pondered for a moment before deciding not to reply immediately, because she decided to go to the Leaky Cauldron herself to meet the somewhat troublesome boy Tom had mentioned.
It was clearly Professor McGonagall's personality that made her personally involved in everything concerning her students.
Inside the Leaky Cauldron, after a morning of contemplation, Ian sat in a corner, enjoying his hard-earned food while observing the passing customers. Sitting on the sidelines as a spectator and secretly watching was one of his few interests.
The green flames rising in the fireplace were thanks to Floo Powder. As a famous scene in the Harry Potter world, even though he had seen it many times before, his attention was still drawn to it.
"coax!"
This time, a very tall woman with a stern and serious expression emerged. She was wearing a bright green robe and a pointed hat tilted to one side.
After emerging from the fireplace, she made no unnecessary movements and went straight to Old Tom, clearly a woman with exceptionally strong execution skills.
"Oh ho, the main character has arrived. As expected of Professor McGonagall, she really doesn't procrastinate when it comes to getting things done."
However, Ian did not get up, mainly because he did not "know" Professor McGonagall at the moment, and it would be difficult to explain if he were to greet her abruptly.
Within minutes, old Tom led Professor McGonagall toward them.
"This is the Hogwarts Vice-Headmistress I told you about before, Ms. Minerva McGonagall."
Old Tom happily introduced the situation to Ian, then turned slightly to look at Professor McGonagall and said...
"This is the child mentioned in the letter, Ian Titus. I think I should hand over my time to you now, as I have my own work to do."
After saying that, old Tom turned and left.
"Okay, Tom, I'll take care of this."
Professor McGonagall glanced at the handsome boy before her, then, as if suddenly remembering something, smiled and said to Ian:
"Hello, Mr. Titus. I think we have met before, at Madame Malkin's Robe Shop, though there were many young ladies around him then."
Ian stood up and bowed slightly, saying, "Hello, Professor McGonagall. You can call me Ian. As for what happened before, I can only say that it was a great pity. As you know, the environment was too noisy at the time, so I couldn't remember too many people."
"Okay, Ian, Tom has told me most about your situation. He understands that you don't actually resist going to school, right? That's rare; most kids your age only think about holidays. Although Hogwarts doesn't require young wizards to have their magic channeled, we will never turn away any school-aged student who is eager to learn."
"Here, you only need to focus on your studies. You don't need to worry about anything else. If you encounter any problems, you can come to me or other professors. No one can harm the students here."
"Moreover, Hogwarts has the greatest white wizard of this century. As the headmaster, Mr. Dumbledore posed no threat to Hogwarts, even during the most chaotic times."
Professor McGonagall spoke rapidly, glancing down at her pocket watch as she finished. Clearly, the vice-principal had been extremely busy in the two days leading up to the start of the semester, and was obviously running out of time.
Seeing this, Ian stopped dawdling and went straight to the point:
"Professor McGonagall, Mr. Tom may not have told you my situation in detail. My family went through a change of fortune when I was of school age, and for the past three years since I was 11, I have been living a life of exile with my mother."
"After my mother passed away, I almost despaired and wandered aimlessly. A week ago, I inexplicably ended up here. What I want to say is that I have no foundation at all, and I may not even know as much as a freshman. Our previous life has really exhausted us."
"Oh God, poor child."
Professor McGonagall was also somewhat moved when she heard Ian's story. Ian only gave a simple account, but the well-informed McGonagall saw loneliness and despair in his eyes.
"Ian, believe me, it's all over. No one at Hogwarts can hurt you."
As Professor McGonagall spoke, the confidence of a prestigious university with a thousand-year history was on full display.
He continued, "The classes you missed are not a problem. Although your grade level cannot be changed due to your age, I can approve your attendance at classes for lower grades."
"And tell the other professors about your situation. I think they would be very happy to help you solve the problems you encounter in your studies in their spare time, and give you some individual tutoring to help you with any missing knowledge."
Since things had come to this point, Ian immediately nodded in agreement and politely replied, "Thank you, that's wonderful. I love magic and yearn for it."
Professor McGonagall looked at the polite child before her and said somewhat apologetically, "However, before that, you need to meet with our headmaster, although I have the right to decide your admission."
"However, your name has not been recorded in the Book of Admissions by the Acceptance Pen, which requires the Headmaster to exercise his authority. But don't worry, although Dumbledore doesn't usually manage school affairs, I think he will resolve this matter quickly."
As mentioned before, Professor McGonagall was a woman of action. After receiving Ian's affirmative answer, she pulled him toward the fireplace, preparing to travel to Hogwarts via the Floo Network.
