Chapter 36
The Secret of Bloodline
Chapter 36 The Secret of Bloodline
Ian had no appetite for food anymore, because Daphne's words had suddenly unlocked a door that had troubled him for so long.
"Bloodline, yes, how come I didn't think of that? The source of a warlock's power is his bloodline. It is said that the legendary wizard Merlin had half Nightmare blood. Perhaps I should start from this key point of bloodline."
Ian's mind raced as he considered and weighed all the possibilities.
The "pure-blood theory" may not be entirely unfounded. Wizards may have noticed long ago that the essence of wizarding is bloodline. It's just that Voldemort twisted and exploited the "bloodline theory" in modern times.
Without hesitation, Ian, a man of action, had his mind entirely focused on the library.
After exchanging a few words with Hermione, he didn't have time to pay attention to her surprised look before getting up and leaving without looking back.
He rushed to the library, but reason told him that without a goal, finding a book to solve his problem in this vast library would be like looking for a needle in a haystack.
"Excuse me, Mrs. Pince, could you tell me which section contains the books on bloodlines and potions?"
"Bloodline?... "
Mrs. Pince looked at Ian with some surprise upon hearing this, as few students would read books on this subject.
Even the Slytherins, who constantly talk about pure blood, only use their bloodline to show their difference, without truly understanding it.
"Let me think... There aren't that many books on this subject. You can go in from the second-to-last corridor on the left, and keep going straight. After passing four forks, you'll reach the area with those books."
"Thank you so much for your help!"
After a polite thank you, Ian rushed off to his destination.
"Is this what Mrs. Pince meant by not saying much?"
He looked at the rows of neatly arranged books, which filled three tall bookshelves, and gained a new understanding of the sheer size of Hogwarts' collection.
The Origins of Wizards, The Legacy of Bloodlines, Pure Bloodlines, The Legend of Merlin
After careful selection, Ian only chose these few books with similar titles. Although he was eager to solve the problem of increasing his magic power, he understood the principle of not trying to do too much at once.
"...The first beings to appear in this world and possess magical powers were not wizards, but magical creatures. Some humans, by chance, captured magical creatures that were not particularly dangerous, and unknowingly consumed them, thus imbuing their blood with magic, and the first wizards were born..."
"...A magical creature possessing high intelligence chose to mate with a human girl, giving birth to offspring with even greater magical power..."
"...Powerful wizards must possess more magical animal bloodlines, but these bloodlines also have their critical point, which is initially estimated to be 50%. Merlin is the most obvious example. He has half the bloodline of the legendary creature Nightmare. So far, no wizard has been able to surpass Merlin."
"...Based on my speculation, the vast majority of wizards, after reaching adulthood, will remain stuck at this 10% threshold throughout their lives. This is why most ordinary adult wizards are of comparable strength. Only a few, when their magic awakens again, will surpass this threshold and become renowned and powerful wizards..."
Sitting in the library, Ian appeared calm as he flipped through the books in his hands, but his heart was surging with excitement.
The book's viewpoints coincided with his own, and its more detailed descriptions of various aspects brought him sudden enlightenment.
He closed the book in his hands, but his mind was still racing with thoughts:
"After exceeding 10%, the most fundamental transformation will occur, which is the so-called quantitative change leading to qualitative change. But what about the most fundamental 'quality'? Merlin has the Nightmare bloodline, while Dumbledore's family has the Phoenix bloodline."
Slytherin, Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff—these legendary wizards probably also possessed the blood of powerful magical creatures. And what about myself…”
"The Wizarding Origins Conjecture? Is this the book that made you suddenly leave me and come here all by yourself?"
A crisp voice suddenly interrupted Ian's thoughts.
Looking at Hermione, who was sulking, he said somewhat embarrassedly:
"Sorry, Hermione, I just suddenly had an idea and needed to verify it. Otherwise, the feeling of being constantly confused by a problem is really too uncomfortable."
Upon hearing the explanation, Hermione suddenly chuckled and said softly:
"Haha, I'm not that petty. I've felt that way before too. I can't even eat until I find out the answer."
Hermione, though still not fully grown, possessed a captivating charm and allure that a girl should have.
Even Ian was surprised by the sudden beautiful scenery, and after a moment of stunned silence, he said, "Thank you for your forgiveness, our lovely Hermione."
"I'll forgive you this time, but next time we encounter a problem, we can discuss it together. You're not alone; we're... friends!"
Whether it was because they were in the library or for some other reason, Hermione's voice grew softer and softer.
However, he understood the general meaning and immediately said, "Of course, I'll definitely discuss it with you next time. It's a promise!"
Hermione stared blankly at Ian, lost in thought, before finally replying in a barely audible voice, "Yes, we made a promise..."
After the brief interlude, Ian's thoughts returned to his books, while Hermione was also writing something diligently beside him. The two were in a state of both harmony and independence.
When you are focused, you don't notice the passage of time; several hours can fly by.
Even when Hermione went to class, Ian didn't put down his book; he simply nodded to indicate that he understood.
"Looks like I need to really study Potions properly; it's the only method that sounds somewhat reliable. It's a pity the book only contains the recipe for a semi-finished product..."
Ian put down "Pureblood" and stared blankly into thought. The good news was that he had finally found a solution, but the bad news was that it was only half complete.
The book records the author's various experiments, including many strange and unusual methods, such as directly drinking the blood of magical animals, using their corpses as sacrifices, and performing various rituals and magic.
Without exception, they all failed. Those who were lucky did nothing, while those who were unlucky mutated into various half-human, deformed monsters.
The safest and most successful method is to record a magic potion called "Bloodline Potion".
Unfortunately, this potion was only a semi-finished product, and its effects were extremely unstable, with a success rate of less than one percent. In the end, it was abandoned.
If it weren't for the vast collection of books in the Hogwarts Library, this book might have been completely forgotten by the world.
Even so, this is still good for Ian, at least it gives him some direction and prevents him from being completely clueless.
Because he had two more classes in the afternoon, he left the library around noon, but of course he didn't forget to check out the books.
